I just called Disney reservations to ask why I was I was only credited $121.00 of my $200.00 Disney Visa deposit when I cancelled my reservation and moved it to Dreams Unlimited. Because trip insurance is non-refundable, they deduct it from your deposit if you cancel your reservation at any time. I was furious! They refunded my money because I had made another reservation, again with trip insurance. Of course, I was on hold to the 407 number for 20 minutes, so I still lost in the long run :( . Be very sure of your dates before you make a deposit that includes trip insurance.

Thank you for pointing this out so that it doesn't happen to others. When we scheduled our first WDW family trip in 2001, the same thing happened to us. We made a reservation online for CSR but then found out that, with my nurse's discount, we could stay at the Dolphin for the same price. When I cancelled the CSR ressie, I lost the trip insurance amount. Turns out there's a box you can uncheck when making the online ressie to not select the trip insurance, but who knew?

Hopefully, others will be forewarned because of your post and not have this problem should they need to cancel or change their ressies.

Trip insurance is always non-refundable, and the fine print of your contract does state that very clearly. I fyou are not sure you will be keeping your reservation you do not need to purchase trip insurance. Usually this is only for a package and not available for room only reservations.

I had booked a cruise for 12/03. I cancelled it 60 days before the sailing date. I got my entire deposit back. I booked it through Disney. Does it work differently with the cruise line?

I usually buy trip insurance, but with my DVC stuff, I actually have to make a seperate call.

If I am booking straight Disney, I used to call them on the Disney Club 800#. That is gone now, but there is a 407 number, and at $0.06 a minute, I can afford to wait a while. Not happy about it, but I rry to call at non-peak times.

I did try to use my travel insurance once, glad I didn't have to, but last October I had a ressie in DL, I have asthma, and there was an alert if you had breathing problems (from the fires). I called and asked...they told me I had to fly to CA, get a DR to tell me I was sick, and fly home before I would be covered. I'm not so sure how good it is.

OK, this being said, I feel your pain, and I am not sure if I will continue to get the Travel Insurance.

baileysgm,
I added trip ins onto a package last year and then I ended up canceling and changing to something else.... I was thinking that what I should have done was wait to add the ins on later ... (they had told me I could add it on later, but I couldn't cancel it and get a refund once it was added on. I don't remember how much later you can add it on, someone else might know this)...

Since in my case they had warned me about no refunds before I added the ins on--I couldn't be upset about it and I chalked it up to a learning experience. In the long run, I was still $$ ahead with my new ressie. (I think the reason I didn't add the T. I. onto the second ressie was the TI was nearly the same price as 1 night's deposit on the new ressie).

I do wish that they would permit the transfer of TI to the new ressie or at least explain it better. I knew full well going into it that I couldn't transfer, but I am not sure that folks totally understand this when they buy the TI and I think more people would decline, if they knew.

I think if you book a package VS a room only reservation you automatically get insurance ....thanks for warning people...

There were a couple of 1-800 numbers posted that still supposedly work. Try 1-800-828-0228. My DW used this number to book our stay at CR. Next time you call it won't cost you. Jay

I just booked my vacation for November and requested NO trip insurance for exactly that reason. If I should cancel between now and September, I would lose that amount. Final payment is due in September so I have until then to add the insurance. It is best to do it that way. Companies may run specials and I may get a better deal later. After final payment you cannot add trip insurance I believe.

We were charged trip insurance with our Fairytale Packagae last year. When I found out, I called back and cancelled the insurance and had no problem getting the insurance refund.
