The MAGIC is Back!!! - 6th Sept 2014 WBTA - Come & join the fun! - PART 2

I actually have a quick Barcelona question while we're on the subject...

Can I check my bags into / onto the ship, then go and have a little wander around Barcelona for an hour or so, then board the magic. Or does my luggage and I have to stay 'together', ie one on, all on?!

Hope this make sense!

Michala

I'm hoping to do the same thing! In 2010, our flight was delayed arriving in Barcelona so we were rushed from airport to port. But we were able to turn over our luggage, check in with DCL and board the ship...then we left the ship and went back to the check in area where there was a little souvenir shop. Hoping this year to get to the port earlier and turn over our luggage and then we'll take the "blue cruise bus" to the Christopher Columbus statue and hopefully do a quick hop on/hop off tour.

Just put the Disboard app on my iPad! Sorry I haven't been around much. FB is my main internet vice--Deanna Banana. I'll try to visit here more often to get to know y'all. : )

Palo Group Brunch:

Just a reminder to please see the update on post #8 on page one of this DIS thread. I need info to send to DCL for this request.

I will post a reminder every couple of days here and on both of the facebook pages I know about so that nobody can say they never knew to send the info and throw stones at me if dropped. I know everyone who signed up originally has a DIS name so should still be at least lurking on this thread to know to email me (I set it up as an email to contact me - easier to track and search).

As I receive emails, I am typing "CONFIRMED" by each name on the Brunch post, and unless not all in that listing replied there may be a note beside CONFIRMED. The Waitlist is continuously kept updated at the bottom of that post in Pink so those who have requested changes or to be added can watch where they stand along with if the groups above might have availability. I have been keeping a listing of all changes on there just in case something unexpected happened to me and someone had to take over the list - that way all changes have been kept in that post. :goodvibes

Has anyone looked at excursions for Tenerife???!?!? I realize Disney has not posted their offerings, but there do not appear to be many selections at all for private excursions.

I even went so far as to search other cruise line's sponsored excursions. Only a couple offered, mainly bus tours. Was really hoping to dive, but it doesn't look like there may be any adventure tours offered here! :(

Any one been here before that can offer any advice?

No advice other than I'm not surprised you're struggling to find anything other than a 'beach day' there's not a lot to see or do on the island. I had a quick look at one of the hop on hop off buses and don't think we'll bother as it wasn't very inspiring.

150 days to go :cool1::cool1::cool1:

For those of you wanting to see something of San Juan at the end of the cruise and have a problem with luggage there are some excursions that will pick you up a the ship and take you around and store your luggage and then take you to the airport.... look for Puerto Rico cruise excursions and some of them have the airport trip included.

The excursions cover Old San Juan and the Forts and some have the Bacardi Factory included as well ....Tours are approx 5 hours and cost around $40 per person which includes collecting you at the cruise ship, storing your luggage, doing the tour and taking you to the airport...what a bargain.

:woohoo:

That sounds great - which company is it? We definitely want to do something like that on September 27 (after the second leg of our b2b), since we really don't want to spend the whole day at the airport. You're not doing the same, by any chance? Then we could book something together, I seem to recall you are on the same flight as us! :goodvibes

For St Maarten - I am seriously looking at Bernard's tours now and may book what anichan has (see you there!:yay:).

Cool! :yay:

Has anyone looked at excursions for Tenerife???!?!? I realize Disney has not posted their offerings, but there do not appear to be many selections at all for private excursions.

We have now decided to simply do a self-guided walking tour around our port of Santa Cruz (we spent a whole week on Tenerife in 2001, so we don't really feel like we need to see anything in particular again), but before deciding that I also looked into possible excursions:
There are several great things to see on Tenerife. There are beautiful sights in the mountains inland, and Mt Teide volcano is definitely worth a visit.
BUT: All this involves quite a bit of driving around on winding mountain roads, and takes quite a lot of time. Moreover, a visit to Mt Teide is only really complete when you take the aerial tram up (which involves more time in waiting for a free space on the tram, and then the ride) and spend some time up there, maybe even hiking the last short leg to the top (which is not at all an easy feat at 11,600 ft above sea level! :scared:).
Also, the majority of excursions caters not to the cruise tourist (Tenerife is mostly a weeklong-holiday-destination and not so much a cruise destination) but to the beach resort tourist, and therefore leaves from Playa de los Americas down in the South and do not pick up from Santa Cruz.

I am still interested to see what Disney comes up with for Teide and/or the Teno Mountains, but it is bound to be both expensive and time-consuming.

For Tenerife we booked a private full day tour seeing some of the island but focused mainly on mt. Teide. We will also take the cable car to the top. I contacted several companies for quotes and the one I picked is really responsive and has great reviews. He is even buying our cable car tickets for us in advance so we don't have to waste time in line. We picked a tour Instead of driving ourselves since there will be a lot of time driving and we would like a local's narrative as we drive to learn about the island. Lunch is also included so overall I don't think the price we got is too bad at all.

Hey folks! Just finished paying off our 7 day Mediterranean and this cruise for our first Back to Back experience. So NOW it's real!! Also got Disney to do the pre-hotel in Barcelona, flights to Barcelona from Baltimore and back from Puerto Rico and all the transfers. Very reasonable! Surprisingly. :-)

I tried to read through all the posts but has a running group been started? I will be training for a half-marathon in October so will need to log some miles in. We had a Running Group on the Eastbound Panama Canal Cruise last year. Loves it! We each got a log sheet to track our miles, whether we were running a half marathon, marathon or ultra marathon. One mile a day will get you at least a half marathon status.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

YES, Annichan you are correct. We are doing the B2B as well and will be taking the same Condor flight home at the end of the trip. We have just booked the excursion and they are taking us to the airport at the end.

Go to www.puertoricocruiseexcursions.com

We have chosen the Old San Juan and Fortresses Tour. You send them an email detailing what tour you want and they send you an email to confirm there is room and with a link to pay a deposit of $10 each and you pay the balance of $30 each to the tour guide IN CASH.

They will be waiting for us on the dock at 9am.

Hope that helps and it would be great to go to the airport together.

Great, thank you for the info! That tour seems to be exactly what I was looking for. I have sent them an email asking about availability, and I will tell Chris about it tonight, so unless he doesn't like the tour for some reason, and as long as there's room for us, we are good to go :cool1:

Yes, we thought it was an ideal way to see something of San Juan before we leave and to know our bags were safe and someone get us to the airport.

Fingers crossed there is availability so we can end our great holiday together.

Richard may do his Diving with them at St Maarten if Disney don't offer it. We have been to St Maarten before so I will hit the town with our friends who are doing the WBTA with us.

Sue, are you US citizens or EU? Because the anxious thought just crossed my mind that immigrations for non-US citizens might take ages at the port of San Juan so we might be stuck in that line while the tour is waiting for us ... It took forever (and was so annoying!) last year at the port of L.A., whereas it was a breeze both at Port Canaveral and New York City.

Do you now if there's some shoppingtime?
I like to buy a thimble as a souvenir.

All Palo Brunch emails received so far have been updated on Post #8 of this thread.

We have several groups who have not had the minimum 12 confirmations needed. DCL will only book the group if there are 12 (max of 14). Not a single brunch group has the minimum 12 confirmations yet as of this post. (EEEEEK!) If you know someone personally in your group who is not showing CONFIRMED, please encourage them to read the update on the post (at top in big blue). For waitlisters requesting changes, I can only change if we still have the minimum required by you leaving your group. For example, if your group has 12 and someone leaves, that makes your group 11 now and therefore makes it where that entire group cannot attend. The list of waitlisters for changes and additions is at the bottom of that post in bright pink that I will *try* make in May.

I changed the heading of each group to show how many are actually confirmed (versus open/closed) because I am learning of cancellations now that have opened up spots in various groups.

If you want to be added to the waitlist for Private Group Brunch, please let me know and I will add your name. If you are trying to request a specific group, please look at that group's confirmations to see if there is even a chance for that group, and read all of the change requests listed in the Waitlist group already. I cannot just kick another couple out of a group to slide you in ;)
