I may try the Priceline thing for our trip that's coming up. It's only 4 nights and we would like to keep the costs to a minimum, yet stay close by (DTD area would be great). I've read that people do like the Safari place. Is there a certain way to bid that pretty much gets you that place? Does it have refridgerators in the rooms? That's always a nice perk.

MAELSTROM!!!

...is a FASTPASS?!?!

Remember that whe you bid on Priceline, you are bidding on a room for two people, which has meant one king sized bed each time I've done it. It is my understanding that the hotel has the option to give you two beds for free or for an additional fee. I know of one person who had to pay an extra $10 per night for the second bed. It was still a good deal.

As far as I know, there's no way to insure you're getting a specific hotel.

When I stayed at the Safari, there wasn't a fridge in my room, but they DO have them available.

HTH.

My other thought at the moment is the Buena Vista Suites. Mousesavers has some discounts listed that I was going to call to see if they were available for my dates.

MAELSTROM!!!

No there is no certain way...2 times I've used priceline and and asked for a 3 start I got Safari. No fridges...

Last year I did 2 stars and got Marriot Courtyard or something like that, it's a few minutes farther away, but at the same exit as the Safari place. That place DID have a fridge in the room. The lobby was REALLY nice, but the rooms needed major updating. Fake mattresses, flat pillows, scratchy blankets, with, um....a "hair"...so needless to say I wasn't TOO impressed, but other than the "hair" it was nice. I think I bid 35 or 40 for that one.

True, but there is a pretty good website where you can check what bids have been successful in the recent past in the area you're looking, as well as give you some idea what hotel you might get. Lots of good tips on bidding strategy. It's www.biddingfortravel.com, and, best of all, it's free (music to my ears). The information there can be eerily accurate. Okay, shameless plug now over. Back to the festivities. Woof. And Maelstrom. :cool1:

We have never gotten a king room. Always 2 doubles, or queens...I always call before we go to request non-smoking, since that's not guareteed and that's never been a problem. Plus if you have more people than a room "fits" just say you need 2 when you do priceline, it's still cheaper than most "suites" through expedia or any other those others.

SNAP - I don't know if someone mention the whole sushi thing, I can't remember, but you can get sushi at the Cal. Grill...never ate there, heard its good. We're eating there in May, but I don't think I'll be eating any raw fish. :crazy2: Also, The Coral Reef is really good...small portions, high prices, everything screams DISNEY. :teeth: It's good though and you can't beat the view. For steak, we LOVED The Yactsmen Steakhouse. It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good.

For you Grammyof2:

My aunt who lived to be 98 smoked them til she was 98.

Just tryin’ to catch back up on all the Maelstrom activity.

I saw we were discussing dining earlier—ahhhh, a subject near and dear to my heart, er belly. ;)

My favorite pick for a steakhouse at WDW is hands down Le Cellier. Two thumbs enthusiastically up! And I don’t even eat their steak, LOL.

MY GOSH PEOPLE!! I take one day off from reading and come back to PAGES and PAGES of posts (both here and the coffee shop!) What is a girl to do?

To all the Maelstromers:

Boy, we've got some late nighters here! Myself, I get up at 5:00, so I'm usually in bed by 9:30!!!

Grammy, just had to jump in on the davenport discussion.....I grew up in a suburb of Boston, and worked for several years (in High School) at the "Davenport Estate"! It was an old mansion, turned into a retirement home, that belonged to the furniture company family from whence the name came! Yeah, I know, lame trivia, but it was cool to me to see people chatting about davenports!

LaLa, I'd do off property if you can find something. Did you check Swan and Dolphin? I assume so, just figured I'd mention them as a good alternative....Just make sure to be either EARLY birds to make sure you get into the parks before they fill up. And maybe be prepared to go back to the hotel pool if it gets too crazy. As others have said, it's better than staying home!!!

Two weeks from today...I'll be on a plane to FLL for our Princess Cruise! (but I'd rather be going to Disney......)

Mornin' everybody!

First off, I want to say thanks to everybody for the great tips!

I got up this morning and called Disney hoping for a cancellation but had no luck. I'm gonna go check out priceline. We have used expedia in the past, but never priceline. So break it down for me. You're bidding on a reservation, but you don't know where it is?

DH is about to back out on me. I can feel it. He's having flashbacks of Crazy Grown Up Street and the Food Court From you know where. :confused3

We even called Universal's hotels

But everything there was booked as well.

Thanks again for the tips and I'll let yall know what we decide.

MommyP: Don't feel bad. I thought the same thing about that post. Had to reread it a couple of times. I still don't think I'm fully convinced it's just about food. ;)

Chapter 11: I'm proud of you. Very proud to see the Walking Cool Man in your post.

Those are for you.

Judas Priest: Hope you're feelin better today. :sunny:
Sing it for me Pongo.....

Horsegirl: You're makin me feel better about the crowds thing. Keep it comin'. Oh, and I have a funny little story to tell that you might get a kick out of. This morning when the alarm clock went off, DH turned to hit the snooze button and I heard myself say "Horsegirl"

I swear. Just out of the blue. I don't know why I said it. I don't think I was dreaming about you or the Maelstromers or anything. At least not that I remember. But all I know is that I heard myself say it and immediately thought 'Man, that's really weird....did I just say Horsegirl?'

And then I fell back asleep.

I dunno. Maybe I was dreaming about the pretty picture of your horses and the snow. I dunno. Maybe it was all the LaLa de my lalalaaaaaaaaaaaaaa calling here lately.

Oh well. Guess I'll chalk it up to partaking of too much darn coffee here and there.

Maelstrom everybody.....

Yeah, I asked the CM on the phone yesterday and she said she was checking everything, even Swan and Dolphin. Nothing. We definitely will have to have a plan of attack with the crowds.

Have fun on your cruise. Sounds like fun!!!!

Hey SNAP (whoa! I spelled that Hay the first time) -

Sushi - isn't there a Sushi bar right next to Teppanyaki, too? I don't eat sushi (I don't eat fish) so I have no idea of the quality. Second the Le Cell for steak, though (yeah, give me good red meat anyday!)

Okay, I've decided on Chinese for lunch. Cat, anyone?

And someone sent me this link yesterday. Anyone else in the market for an island? Island Hunting
I just have to win the lottery first.

Amy

Just bumping us up.

LaLa - Hope you find someplace. I have never did Priceline or any of that stuff so I can't help.

AshClan - Thanks for the davenport info. I love trivia, might need it some day when I get on a game show.

ndelaware - thanks for answering one of the burning questions

GeorgiaAristocat - this is all banter

Horsegirl - These kittens we have now came from a cat someone DROPPED off and of course I fed it and of course she was pregnant, and of course DH is ticked off. Do you live in Upstate NY and do I know you?

For real, do I need a passport to get into Canada? Really, Mel, I need to know. Last time I was there they just asked where I was born. BTW where is Mel. I hope she didn't do a drive by spit balling without using my car.

Busy weekend, people getting pregnant and stuff.

I found the digital, charged the batteries, took the pictures of the swingset. Now I have to download, upload, and post. Maybe later. How is that for banter.

hey everyone - just checking in while I scarf down lunch
I kept having weird dreams last night about the boards, it was just pages of people talking, and I could hear their voices...creepy dee

LaLa - can you see if you can rent points last minute from anyone for DVC? IDK if they keep the same inventory for DVC members as they do for you to rent thru Disney directly...it may be worth a shot.

Did Melly Mel jump the Viking ship?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH I can't stand it anymore. Found this thread after I finally finished up Mel's trip report (which was yesterday about 9pm only it was locked ) Have been away from the boards except to post about trying to wash my stinky sneakers ( you know those laminate wood floors tht say snap lock and easy in the same sentence they lied big time) So I would like to join in if I may ( althought i still have to go back to pg 35 cause i gave up at about 3 this morning) Hope you all have a great weekend. Oh yeah about Maelstrom .........................................................................................................................................................I absolutely love this ride , aaaah going over the waterfall (yes I sitll scream)

Good afternoon everyone. Hope you're having a great day. It's beautiful in Middle GA today. Rhonda's parents are coming in tonight so we can put that playground thing up tomorrow. Y'all pray for us - her dad is great, and I lvoe him, but he is terribly ANAL about this kind of stuff. I might be nutso by the time we finish.

Got yet another funeral to prepare for. This one on Monday, and I gotta go sit down with the family in a bit. Not a church member, but theparent of a church member who never went ot church. Gotta love these. Folks, do your local clergy a favor - go to church. Funerals like this one are extremely hard to do. I never met this lady. Don't know about her faith, or nothing. Kinda hard to preach nice stuff about folks you've never met before.

Yet another reason to go to church - so the preacher will be able to say really nice things baout you at your funeral!

Blessings!
marky mark

Thanks for the welcome all!

Mommy - I usually beat everyone on the kid count but I know I am not the youngest! 35 here in April. The kids keep telling me I am an old bag now! They think the're funny but I hold the ticket's to Disney hehehe!

The State Department website says you'll need a passport to enter the US from Canada or Mexico beginning in 2008, so you'll need one then to get back into the country.

I had read this also, but friends that recently traveled said they needed the passports. That why I was asking. Maybe I will just get them in case. Probably easier.
