Hi everyone. Well...what a day I've had. First, I wake up to find that DH did not come home last night. No...he wasn't out with da boys...he was working ( he is a police officer) and had to work all night. I HATE when that happens. Then...the kids kept trying to tell me I had spiders in my hair...April fools and all. They don't quite get the whole April Fools thing. Probably cuz I am NOT a fastpass like Mel...no good pranks from me.

So, it was a pretty nice day here, and the kids were BEGGING me to let them play outside. I said sure...no problem. We live in a new house...one we had built...and the landscaping isn't done (among a ton of other things) and there are various items in the yard left over from the construction phase. THe kiddies KNOW they are not supposed to touch them.

How do I know that they know?

Cuz I tell them EVERY TIME the go outside!!!

So today, the little buggars go out to 'play'. Well, the phone rang, so I went to answer it. I was on the phone for about 10 minutes. Once I hung up, I went to look at the kids thru the french door windows. What do I see? DD (7) is instructing DS(5) how to "paint at rock" with some TAR.

That's right. TAR.

It was left over from the foundation. (Not sure if it is actually tar...but it was used for waterproofing the foundation...and it might as well be tar).

DD's hands were covered...and DS was basically covered. I had to throw away his clothes. WHAT A MESS!! I tried cleaning him up...but nothing was working. I tired soap...dishwashing detergent...that stuff wouldn't budge. So I call DH and ask him how he got it off when he covered the foundation.

Know what he said?

GASOLINE.

Yup, gas...no way THAT was gonna happen.

So now, DD is in HUGE trouble. DS (also in HUGE trouble)is nekkid...sittin in the sink. I am totally p-oed. I think to myself what the H-E-double hockey sticks am I gonna do now?DD6 (was watching tv during the tar incident) suggested finger nail polish remover.

I tried it.

It didn't work.

I eventually got him clean...mostly...I used GOO GONE. It is my new favorite cleaning product.

After I de-goo-ed DS and DD's hands I made them each take a shower. Then the punishing began.

I made them clean their rooms, and "the good daughters" room. Then they had to stay in time out while she got ride bikes outside with the neighbors.

I made them watch out the window. (just kidding...but they did see her).

My house is pretty clean now...but I am exhausted.

Oh well...can't wait to hear how MEl's day turned out. Hope everyone else is having a TAR free day!

Pongo, I was just busting your chops. I can't tell you how much I haven't done in the past week or so since the creation of the Maelstromers. I hardly post at all, but I am finding myself constantly on the computer when I am home. The laundry is a huge pile right now and I could do that, or any of the zillion other things that need to be done, but I am having too much fun here and at the coffee shop, although I am more of a lurker over there. That's just because I am usually a day or so behind in that neck of the woods.
I wish I was taking online classes. I just finished my Associates in dec. I can't even tell you how long that took to complete. Brilliant me, I decided to drop out of school when I got married. (I know, stupid, stupid, so stupid it may as well be STUPID) Turned out I picked the wrong guy. Luckily I found out early on , but I was a parent by then. Needless to say, working, parenting and schooling on my own has been hard, but I am getting there. I figure by the time I have my degree, I'll be ready to retire but I won't be able to because of student loans.
Wow, enough of Erin's 'woe is me' moment.
We now return to your regularly scheduled Maelstrom entertainment

Happy Homeworking!

Horsegirl: Truly disturbing. Mel said she thought I looked like either Gene Hackman or Richard Gere. She later denied that she implied I looked like either of those two washed up old geezers and alleged that in her mind I looked like Gary Sinese. The guy she lusts after in her head. That was enough to make me consider changing my cyber name and posting elsewhere.

I'm just kidding people, calm down. I know Mel doesn't lust after me. She lusts after Lil' Grumpy who for some reason is compairing me to manure. Go figure.

Just when I pick myself up from these unprovoked hate crimes, you come along and compare me to Howie Mandel. While there are worse people to be compared to, say for instance Alan Dershowitz or Gene Hackman, I assure you I actually have more hair and less humor than Mr. Mandel. Although not much on either count.

Despite the onslaught of vicious personal attacks, your trip report is very good. Anyone who hasn't read it needs to.

Finally, to answer another question, Zzub is Buzz backwards. I like Buzz Lightyear. I can relate to him.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, my friend. I think Richard Gere is still handsome, and while that picture of Howie for some reason cracked me up, he had a very appealing, well, appeal! So don't be too fragile, kay? And hay, as you now must know, I could care less what people look like, the bleeding heart that I am. I love what's inside people and a man with a soul has it all over a brad pitt or ben affleck. And I just have to say, thank you for your moving, moving comment. Your writing was so exquisite, and I did not feel I could comment on anything until I finished, and properly let you know how I felt. I hope this has been a silly distraction for you, these boards, to lift your spirits a little. I know I felt like a train wreck. SO :grouphug: I have not used that smiley before. So it is an extra special one for you. I hope your wife has a place of comfort as well.

One little secret, my entire family votes the opposite of me. My grandfather tried brainwashing me and my brothers by having us parade around his living room with Nixon signs. He succeeded........with my brothers. I am kind of like the niece in the Adam's family. Only I'm not quite the looker she was, and my family certainly is not as bizarre as the rest of the Adams brood. Some of my views might surprise anyone whose put me in a box. Democrats are as diverse in their views as are attorneys! ;) So thanks, for your kindness, Howie. And thank you for now allowing me to know how to pronounce your ID- that it is Zzub, not Zzoob, as my brain kept trying to say.

Horsegirl, I don't know what you said. I feel like I just had a conversation with Nikki. :rotfl2:
