Hello Mad Chatters! Will anybody show up today? I hope so!

Javamom! Great to see you, lady ! Too bad we're never on at the same time! When's your trip?

Hi Stephanie! How are you doing?

We ditched church today  and DH and I will be going to the movie later. We'll either see World Trade Center or Little Miss Sunshine. We were supposed to go yesterday, but we didn't want to venture out in the rain.

What are you doing today?

We are going to cook out at MIL's. I am not looking forward to it, but I love DH, so..... The things we do for those we love!

I have been lurking on here lately, and I read that your job is going better. Have you had to call parents yet? That can be a huge pain. Mine is settling down as well, although I have started looking for another job. I am just burned out I think.

Yep, I had to call a parent last week when her son was throwing a huge tantrum at nap-time and keeping all the other kids awake. She came and took him out and spanked him and he came back as the perfect angel.

Sorry you are burned out. It can get hard working with kids.

Are you looking for a different kind of job, not working with kids?

I sent in my resume to an employment agency. (To work there, not for assistance) I also sent in the application to work for child welfare. You have to take a test and get on the state register, so it takes a while. I worked in child welfare about 3 years ago, so I shouldn't have any trouble getting a job in that area. It just takes time.

Are you doing anything tomorrow for Labor Day? I have to go in and work for a bit, but other than that, I am going to be lazy.

Nope, no plans for Labor Day. Just relaxing. We might think up something to do tomorrow, but as of now we haven't thought about it.

It got chilly here the past couple days. Last night we ate homemade chili out on the deck and played Spoons by candlelight. It was a good time. I can't tell you how much I love living in Virginia. It's so pretty here. And it's not always so stinkin' hot, like Vegas!

One day, when we are empty nesters, we want to go up the east coast during fall. Experience a real fall. :) I am from Alabama where you basically have summer for 9 mos, and winter for 3 mos. Oklahoma has a longer winter, but no real fall to speak of. It is my absolute favorite season.

But I don't want to take hormonal teenagers with us so they just tell me how bored they are. :teeth:

I hear you! Vegas was the same with the summer 9 months and winter for 3 months. I can't wait to have a real fall this year!

We came here at Halloween 2 years ago and it was wonderful. The colors were beautiful and it's really family friendly here.

A trip to New England would be awesome. We went to Boston a few years ago and loved it.

I didn't realize you were from Las Vegas. That is quite a change in culture. From Las Vegas to Virginia. Did you have a bit of culture shock at first?

(And I am praying that your move from Vegas isn't in your siggie. I don't look very closely at those, but I am thinking I am about to have another airhead moment :teeth: )

Whew....moment avoided. :)

Nope, not in my siggy! :rotfl:

I grew up in Nevada and lived there all my life. I've been wanting to leave Vegas for years. We finally moved this past June. We live in Northern VA, up by Washington, D.C. There is a lot more to do here, that's for sure.

Do you like living in Alabama? Or is it Oklahoma that you live in?

:teeth:

I live in Tulsa. I really like it here. The girls go to an awesome school and there is a lot more cultural diversity here than in Alabama. Not that Tulsa is hugely culturally diverse or anything, but moreso than where we lived in Bama. My girls really like it too, although Alabama will always be "home" to us. I think my oldest plans to attend college in Alabama in a couple of years, but my youngest won't stray very far from me, I don't think.

Think you will ever move back to Vegas?

Wow! That's great. My Brother is going to a Law School in Oklahoma, and I think it's in Tulsa, but I'm not sure. I don't talk to him all that much.

Unfortunately, yes, I do think we'll end up back in Vegas someday. DH is an architect, and his specialty is highrise hotels and casinos. He's not liking his job here, doing smaller scale projects. Plus our family is still there.

We did the cheesy honeymoon in Vegas thing, but that is the only time I have ever been there. It is never boring, that's for sure!

Yes, the strip is exciting! The only times we would go to the strip was if there was a concert at a casino, or to go to Rainforest Cafe and M&M world. Usually we stayed far away! The rest of Vegas is not that wonderful though. It's not very family oriented. And not much in the way of history and culture.

We were shocked how in the casinos at 3AM, kids would be lined up on benches around the perimeter of the casino while mom and dad were gambling. We aren't really gamblers, so we basically just did some sight seeing. We stayed at Circus Circus (don't ask me why) and went to the Stratosphere and Freemont Street, caught a show, went to Madame Trouseaus, etc.

The Stratosphere! I worked for the architectural firm that designed the Stratosphere, so I got to go to the grand opening. It was fun. Brent worked on that casino.

I know, I don't get why people take their kids to Vegas.

How cool! It was too windy for the ride at the top to be operational that night, but no way in Hades would I ride something that dips you off the top of that thing!

Heck no, I wouldn't ride it either. DH did though. There are 4 or 5 rides up there now. I'm too scared of heights for that stuff. I've been to the top of the tower and that was scary enough. I do like that restaurant up there, the Top of the World restaurant. It's really nice.

Well, I need to sign off and start my day. Have a good one, Stephanie!
