and DH and I will be going to the movie later. We'll either see World Trade Center or Little Miss Sunshine. We were supposed to go yesterday, but we didn't want to venture out in the rain. Ready to go in Ok said:We are going to cook out at MIL's. I am not looking forward to it, but I love DH, so..... The things we do for those we love!
I have been lurking on here lately, and I read that your job is going better. Have you had to call parents yet? That can be a huge pain. Mine is settling down as well, although I have started looking for another job. I am just burned out I think.
Ready to go in Ok said:I sent in my resume to an employment agency. (To work there, not for assistance) I also sent in the application to work for child welfare. You have to take a test and get on the state register, so it takes a while. I worked in child welfare about 3 years ago, so I shouldn't have any trouble getting a job in that area. It just takes time.
Are you doing anything tomorrow for Labor Day? I have to go in and work for a bit, but other than that, I am going to be lazy.
I am from Alabama where you basically have summer for 9 mos, and winter for 3 mos. Oklahoma has a longer winter, but no real fall to speak of. It is my absolute favorite season.

But I don't want to take hormonal teenagers with us so they just tell me how bored they are.![]()

Ready to go in Ok said:I didn't realize you were from Las Vegas. That is quite a change in culture. From Las Vegas to Virginia. Did you have a bit of culture shock at first?
(And I am praying that your move from Vegas isn't in your siggie. I don't look very closely at those, but I am thinking I am about to have another airhead moment)
Whew....moment avoided.![]()

I live in Tulsa. I really like it here. The girls go to an awesome school and there is a lot more cultural diversity here than in Alabama. Not that Tulsa is hugely culturally diverse or anything, but moreso than where we lived in Bama. My girls really like it too, although Alabama will always be "home" to us. I think my oldest plans to attend college in Alabama in a couple of years, but my youngest won't stray very far from me, I don't think.
Think you will ever move back to Vegas?
Bbgrizzle said:Wow! That's great. My Brother is going to a Law School in Oklahoma, and I think it's in Tulsa, but I'm not sure. I don't talk to him all that much.![]()
Unfortunately, yes, I do think we'll end up back in Vegas someday. DH is an architect, and his specialty is highrise hotels and casinos. He's not liking his job here, doing smaller scale projects. Plus our family is still there.
Ready to go in Ok said:We did the cheesy honeymoon in Vegas thing, but that is the only time I have ever been there. It is never boring, that's for sure!
Bbgrizzle said:Yes, the strip is exciting! The only times we would go to the strip was if there was a concert at a casino, or to go to Rainforest Cafe and M&M world. Usually we stayed far away! The rest of Vegas is not that wonderful though. It's not very family oriented. And not much in the way of history and culture.
Ready to go in Ok said:We were shocked how in the casinos at 3AM, kids would be lined up on benches around the perimeter of the casino while mom and dad were gambling. We aren't really gamblers, so we basically just did some sight seeing. We stayed at Circus Circus (don't ask me why) and went to the Stratosphere and Freemont Street, caught a show, went to Madame Trouseaus, etc.
Bbgrizzle said:The Stratosphere! I worked for the architectural firm that designed the Stratosphere, so I got to go to the grand opening. It was fun. Brent worked on that casino.
I know, I don't get why people take their kids to Vegas.
Ready to go in Ok said:How cool! It was too windy for the ride at the top to be operational that night, but no way in Hades would I ride something that dips you off the top of that thing!
