The Luck O' The IWISH! St. Patrick's Day Virtual 5K & 10K

I'm in for the 10k....and I'll take the Guinness. As an Irish-American girl from Boston, I just can't do the green beer thing! And the Guinness in Ireland was really good when I was there a couple of years ago.

One of the things on my bucket list is to have a Guinness at a pub in Ireland. :thumbsup2

Glad you got the graphic figured out. That's great you're doing the C25K and this will be your first! :) You are in a similar place as carissanboys/Carissa, she is in the midst of the C25K too, and the virtual Vday race was her first 5K.

Hmmm, upon further inspection of the race rules, I noticed some fine print.... "Those who are in Rome during the designated race period are entitled to an extenstion of the dates by however many days is deemed necessary by the participant." Wow, lucky you! You can still participate! Should I put you down for the 5K or 10K?

Although running in Rome sounds pretty cool!!! Have a great trip! :)

Thanks for pointing out the fine print! I am sure I will have it done by 3/21. Probably the 10K

Thanks for organizing this. I had great fun doing the Valentine's virtual...this will be a great motivator as well. :thumbsup2

Put me down for the 10K. I'll be running 10 miles with my group on Saturday the 13th, so I think that covers it! And I'll give the Guinness to DH and take the green beer.

Thanks Liz! This is great fun!

Good idea! The Guinness in Ireland tastes a lot different then the Guinness you get here.

FUN FACT of the day--most of the Guinness consumed in the US is brewed in...CANADA  . That is how they can call it imported. Look at a bottle next time you are in the market. Seems that the Harp is brewed in Canada as well. So far, the Smithwicks available in the US is brewed at Guinness Dublin.

And, since it is Friday...I have poured a cold one for all of you...

(note to self--looks like those chin hairs are a bit more out of control than I had realized!!)

Also, I have nothing against Canadian beer...in fact I have a six pack of Molson Golden chilling in a cooler on my deck to be enjoyed this weekend!! :thumbsup2

Guinness must be on tap. :thumbsup2 I'll drink it from the bottle if that's the only way I can get it (such as at home), but it's not the same. The best Guinness I've had is at Raglan Road. Maybe it was all in my head, but it just tasted so good (on two different occassions). I also had a good pint at Bertha's in Baltimore. They serve it at the proper temperature, but I actually prefer mine colder.

My husband likes Smithwick's, but it's not dark enough for me.

Very well then, give the Smiddy to your husband and grab yourself one of these--they should be ready in a minute or two...

I got hooked on beef and Guinness pie while traveling in Ireland last year. I'd be happy to share a recipe. Real comfort food. :goodvibes

Mmmmmmmmmm. Creamy. :drinking1

I'd love the recipe! :thumbsup2 I started drinking Guinness when I was living in Australia. Started out with snakebites and moved on to straight Guinness. I try not to drink beer much these days to help the weight loss along. But, hey - that's the great thing about virtual drinking! No calories!

Too true! Most beers are better on tap than from a bottle. One of the reasons I love English pubs. Real ale only comes from a keg, and you know it's good and fresh.

Myth Number 1: Guinness is heavy in calories … False
Guinness weighs in at 125 calories per 12-oz. serving. But wait, who drinks a 12-oz. Guinness? Nobody, since a pint is 16 oz. (20 for the lucky stiffs in the motherland). Do the math and you get about 170 calories per 16-oz. serving. Guess how many are in a 16-oz. Strawberry Surf Rider smoothie from Jamba Juice? 330.

Sounds like a light beer to me!!! Now that I have totally hijacked this thread I will defer the recipe to a PM when I get a chance over the weekend. :drinking1

I'm in for the 5k. Hoping to improve my time from the Valentine's run! I'm off on the Wednesday the 17th and it's a running day!

I'm in for the 5K. I might be able to do the 10K, but probably 5 is more realistic. By St. P's Day I will be about 4 weeks into an 8 weeks to a 10K training plan.
This will motivate me to improve my time from the Valentines Day Virtual 5K.
Thanks!

I don't need any extra calories right now. I'll definitely have a Guinness when I get down to WDW! :thumbsup2

We've been talking about Ireland and Irish beer so that's not off topic. :rotfl: I'll look forward to the PM. Thanks :goodvibes

Ok i'm in for the run but not for the guiness! Ergh! Although the guiness flavoured meatballs at Raglan Road were fab.

I think i'll do the 5k as my orthotics are off being modified. Great idea though

I think I'll hop in here! I don't usually read this section of the boards but then I saw everyone's virtual valentine's day 5K and I thought it was a great idea. I'm glad I'm here to catch this challenge! Cute graphic too, it'll be going straight into my signature once I've posted. I'm on week 5 of the c25K so this'll be my first 5K as well.

I'm in for the 5k please! :goodvibes

Good for you!!! :thumbsup2

Put me down for the 5K, please. This will be my first 5K in about ten years. I'm on week 7 of C25K, so that weekend will mark the end of the program for me. How perfect is that?!?
