I have read about members of these and other boards who carry around quarters and new pennies just for the pressed penny machines (deposit a shiny new penny and out comes an oval piece of copper with a Disney character pressed upon it). There are even special albums designed for carrying them. I'm not sure if we will be collecting them but I plan on being prepared in case my almost-5 year old decides these are must-have items.

Here is a link that shows where the machines are located and what characters are printed:

Just thought I might not be the only one interested in these less-expensive and fun souvenirs.

Not as inexpensice as you might think!! .50 seems cheap but these machines are everywhere. I know we have spent 30 or 40 dollars on them. However, DS really enjoyes this activity. It slowed us down and made us take our time a little more. Many of these machines are in gift shops so DS and DH would check them out while I shoped! Often you get a machine that takes your quarter, but any CM will be glad to give you your money back. We clean our pennies and get several rolls of quarters before we go.

This is one of my DD favorite things to do. What we do we get those tubes that mini m&m come in and we fill those with pennies & quarters :D

I brought back a pressed penny for every child in the kindergarten class I worked in last year, after I had them write down their favorite Disney character. My younger DD and I had a great time looking for the penny machines!

Hint: If they still sell those little foam-rubbery photo album books on a keychain, they work great to display the pennies, plus they hook onto the fanny pack quite nicely! We found a Pooh one and a Mickey one on our last trip, but that was over a year ago.

we decided to go with the pressed pennies as well, I didn't have any idea there were so many of them. I really appreciate the link. Now we can get an idea of which ones we really want to get. 3 daughters 12,10,& 9 and 1 son-8. This is our first trip, so we are going to put the pennies and autographs in a scrapbook.

btw.... my name is Diana too

Thanks for the link, I was planning to do this with dd in May, she will be almost five, so I thought she might like these, but really I think I'm the one who "really" wants them! LOL!!

Thanks for the link. I think we'll try to collect one for each autograph and glue it on the page wiht the autograph. That way, we'll still have a search, but won't be overwhelmed with the number of different ones!

Just in case you didn't know, it's better to use pennies before 1981 so they won't turn green on you in a few years!! Have fun!

My grandkids (7 & 8) love collecting "smooshed" pennies. I save my quarters and pennies to use.

The past couple of trips I carried baggies of quarters and pennies around with me. This trip I'm loading them into empty mini-m&m's containers ... two quarters, then a penny, repeat ... as the baggies tend to get holes in them from the weight.

We buy the kids a pressed penny book and when it's filled up they're done collecting for that trip ... approx. cost:

$6.00 book
18.36 for 36 pennies (51¢ each)
7.50 for 6 pressed quarter ($1.25 each)

$31.86 total = a fun souvenier!

I've also pressed pennies/quarters to put in my scrapbook ... not a lot but a few.

My friend and I were doing them for our 3 year olds on our last trip. We had an old book and keep using it each trip. It is fun and a great thing to do a Epcot too.

Anyway a very helpful cast member gave me a bit of trivial, if you did every penny pressing machine possilbe it would cost 600$!

But it is a fun thing to do, be sure to get the book, it helps from lossing any.

DW and DDs started making pressed pennies last spring during our visit. We managed to get quite a few for our pressed coin book, but if there are over 1000 different ones available we are in big trouble and will need to get many more books to accommodate all the coins we will be getting.

We visit again in May and will be on the hunt for new designs we haven't pressed yet.

I'm pretty sure the $600 figure includes getting the quarters too. I've combined 3 different penny lists from various sites & I come up with a total of 343 pennies (I may be missing some & some designs may be duplicates). We are going to try to get as many of the pennies as possible on our trip, but won't have access to some of them. And of course some will be out of order.

Do the machines actually press the penny you put in, or are there already pennies in the machine that are being pressed? Just wondering.
My DGD and I have been washing pennies dated before 1981!
BTW a great cleaner to do this is stainless steel cleaner. They come out as shiny as a new one!:earsgirl:

My kids have been collecting pressed pennies from everywhere we travel for years so these will make a great addition to their collection. The kids enjoy picking out the character they want on the penny and turning the handle or mashing the buttons. and they make great souviners.

Where do you get the books.

Memaw@Wm:

Thanks for delineating the numbers that fill the souvenir book.

That really helps us to prepare and set a limit to the number of "treasures".

Now, I have to hunt down 36 pre 1981 pennies! Wow!

Memaw2Wm...the 2 quarters and a penny all ready to go in an MM tube is a TERRIFIC idea! :earsboy: I knew those containers would come in handy for something someday...they're just too cute to throw away!!!

KIS ... the penny press books can be purchased in most of the theme park stores ... near the cash registers or occasionally they are on top of the penny press machines. If you can't find them ask a CM.
