The Lowdown on the Pressed Pennies

I used a cleanser I have for cleaning my stainless steel pots. It worked great and only had to do a little scrubbing! My pennies look brand new.:hyper:

Keep in mind that almost every ride ends in the gift shop, and the pressed pennies are a pretty inexpensive souvenier. We exited the ride and immediately looked for the penny machine, got our pennies and were on our way.

Cost to get out of each gift shop:$1.02

Total trip to Florida: $4300.00

Not having to say "No" every time our kids asked for a souvenier:

PRICELESS!

We were going to do the pressed penny thing our last trip and had cleaned, pre-1981 pennies all set in their m&m containers, quarters in m&m containers, penny albums, etc. Then we forgot them at home! As we went through the parks and saw the penny machines everywhere, I was glad we did forget them. I realized how much time would be spent on the penny machines, not to mention I would be the one carrying them (they do get heavy). I have enough trouble as it is dragging my kids out of the gift shops. If they had it their way they'd spend the entire trip in the pool or at the gift shop! I finally solved the gift shop thing by telling them we would spend a part of our last day shopping at DTD. I assured them that everything they see at the parks, etc. was also at DTD. Don't just buy the first thing you see! I also gave them each $100 in Disney Dollars. When its spent, its gone, don't ask for more. Also, I told them any whining to go to gift shops before our DTD day and they would lose $5 in Disney Dollars for each "whine incident". Well, it worked like a charm. I did have to enforce my "no whining" rule once. When they found out I put their money where my mouth was, there was no more whining! Also, we came up with set hours for the pool. Any whining for the pool, same penalty--lose $5. This trip was the most enjoyable I've had because I didn't hear the constant whining. I just think that it was fortunate for us that I forgot the penny stuff or it would have just been another thing to whine over. That's just my experiences with my kids. If others find the penny thing enjoyable, by all means go for it. IMHO, it just would have slowed us down.

You can clean the pennies by letting them sit/soak in vinegar for a day of so then washing them.

I didn't even notice these machines the last time I was there. It's sounds like lots of fun! I tried the link, but got an error. Is it just me?

How much time do the machines take up?

Are they at restaurants? resorts? They'd be a good diversion at some of those haunts.

Not too much time ... unless the kids are having trouble choosing which penny to make. The machines are all over ... in the gift shops, DTD and at the resorts.

There's a bunch in the Contemporary near the elevators (on the floor below Chef Mickey's).

We really enjoy looking for the machines and making the pennies. But I must admit I'm not a Disney commando ... I prefer to spend some time smelling the roses!
