...has finally decided to make the full commitment to WISH and sign up!

I've been lurking this board for months. In fact, while living in California (hence, my name) earlier this spring, I started losing some weight. But, alas, I got transferred to Japan in late June. What with closing out a job, packing my house, selling the house, selling the car, and doing everything imaginable to essentially vaporize off the North American continent...well, I didn't eat too well those last six weeks in California. And I put every pound back on.

I moved to Japan in late June. Life here is wonderful. The wonderful parts are the people, the rich culture, the beautiful landscape, the extensive walking that I have to do every day ( I have no car and only use the train to get to work and back), and the variety of fruits and veggies (if I can identify what they are!). The not so wonderful parts are the very fatty cuts of meat they sell, the quantity of fried foods they have, the noodles and the rice. Yes, actually, the day to day eating in Japan is really rather, well, bad. They don't concern themselves with protein and fat content of foodstuffs, so it's hard to pick healthy stuff off the shelf. And for the last two months I haven't been eating too well here at all.

But it's time to change that. A few weeks ago, I really wanted to do more exercise, but I live in the congested city here. Just not conducive to easy power-walking or jogging. So I did some online checking, and bought a treadmill. This will be delivered tomorrow and will sit in the middle of my livingroom right in from of the TV. The other reason I decided to make the investment was because I'm being transferred to Russia in another year or so, and the winters will be miserably cold and snowy up there, so a good quality piece of exercise equipment will definitely be needed up there.

Like so many WISH'ers here, I'm tired of carrying around this extra baggage. This became crystal clear to me this past weekend when 18 of us from the office decided to hike up Mt. Fugi! I was dead last getting my bum up that mountain. I felt nothing but satisfaction in completing the task, and actually 2 didn't make it. But I was also embarrassed by the fact that so many of my male collegues had to verbally support me, and coax me up that mountain. They wanted to take off and get to the top, but because we were a team, they couldn't and wouldn't leave me. They were the reason for my success, but I still felt like I let the team down by holding them back so much.

So, I take the WISH challenge to get rid of this "personal baggage". I have 45 pounds of baggage to leave in Japan. I didn't claim it at Customs when I came in, so I'm sure they won't mind if I leave it!

This "team" here on the WISH board is so supportive. I'm excited to be a part of the group. And I look forward to having all of the "intercontinental" support that I can get! You gals and guys are the best!

Congratulations on joining WISH! I am another person who is living in a foreign culture and dealing with the host countries food options, so I know it can be a challenge. You sound like you have a great attitude which equates to success in my book, between that and the support and motivation you can get from WISH you should be very successful.

I am so glad that you decided to come out of lurkerdom and join my support group. I've been saving you a place, you know, since last February :)

Will you be following a formal eating plan or will you be "eating sensibly". Whichever plan you choose there are other WISHers following that plan and will be ready to help you with information and support when you need it.

Would you do me a favor and post to the WISH challenge thread too? Posting there makes you an official WISHer. You will find the Challenge thread right HERE

I think you're going to find WISH to be very helpful while you are getting healthier. I know WISH has been a wonderful help to me.

How exciting to live in Japan. What is the time difference? I ask because we have a chat every Sunday at 7PM GMT/2PM est and I was hoping you might be able to join us sometime. We plan our trips in that chat and it's lots of fun.

Visit us often, okay?

Welcome!! I think you will find that the support and information here is incredible!
Good luck in your weight loss journey and here's hoping you can lose some baggage along the way! ;)

Welcome ... glad you decided to de-lurk! I love it when the WISH team gets bigger and bigger ... 'cause I really need everyone to help me along on this weight-loss journey! And as our "team" gets bigger and bigger in numbers, the actual members themselves are getting smaller and smaller!

I look forward to seeing you change those clippies on a regular basis!

Welcome to WISH, you will find all kinds of really helpful support here. I only joined at the beginning of Aug. and I can't say enough good stuff about it.

BTW were abouts in California are you from. I only ask because my DH is from San Jose (were I lived for 10 years) and DH's family live all over CA.

Good luck in losing your extra baggage, hope that you become a big loser!! :D

A big welcome to you in Japan!

Keep focused and that baggage will be lost before you know it:Pinkbounc
