the little black kitten

Your Olive is just a sweetie!

We have two shelter cats ... Henry and Tucker. Both are brown tabby cats and are as sweet as can be! I love hearing that people adopt from shelters b/c there are so many cats (and dogs) that need good homes. I swear, I'd bring them all home if DH would let me!!!!! I suppose I'm lucky that I have two as it is b/c DH is allergic!

Funny thing is that Henry was adopted shortly after our first cat had to be put to sleep and he is totally into my DH. He adores DH and has v. little to do w/me or DS. Tucker is the "baby" at age 2 and he's a little chunka-munka cat! He is DS's cat and adores DS. I am left out in the cold. I am the one who adopted both cats, paid for them, vet bills, etc. and both treat me like I'm just here to give them food and water. If they want love or attention, they hit their "masters". Annoying!!!! But, I love 'em anyway!

Just wondering if everyone on this thread has spayed all their animals?

Both of our cats are neutered. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Our one kitten from the SPCA was neutered before he even came home and he was a tiny little kitty!!!! The SPCA won't let you adopt until they're spayed/neutered anyway. Our cat has the letter N tattooed in his ear to show he is neutered ... that's what the SPCA does.

When we adopted our first cat from the local animal shelter (non-SPCA), we had to pay for the adoption w/one check and then paid a "deposit" with another check. They held the deposit (I think it was about $100) and told us that if we presented the vet certificate for neutering the kitten w/in a certain time frame, we received that deposit check back. If we did not, they got to deposit the check. Needless to say, we neutered that cat asap!!!!

I would totally bring all of them home too!

I really had to laugh at the cats going to their people and not you. We rescued our first kitten (Simba) and he likes nobody unless they have treats and he will occassionally come up to us for a head rub (don't dare touch anywhere else) He goes around with a look of disdain unless you click the leash and then you see his little eyes get huge and light up. Then we went to the shelter and adopted our second cat (Pooh) who is most definitely DH's cat. If I need to find Pooh I look for DH. Then we adopted our third cat (Koda) from a different shelter and he was just super shy and didn't really go to anybody. I wanted a lap kitty so we adopted number 4 (Lucky) again from the shelter and he's just a nut who loves everybody in the whole world and will attach himself to whoever is closest. After Lucky was adopted Koda decided that he was my cat and he follows me around like a little puppy which I love. My favorite Koda story of the moment is that he will lie down beside me and knead my stomach trying to make the baby kick him.

All 4 were fixed and I know two of them were fixed under 6 months of age.

Olive looks so much like our Betty! Betty was rescued also. She and her brother, who we named Mike, had been left in a dumpster on a hot day in August when they were about a week or two old. We didn't think they would live as they were very weak from starvation and dehydration but they made it. We bottle fed them every two hours round the clock until they were strong enough to take food on their own.
They are almost three years old now. Betty sleeps with my daughter every night and Mike is my special baby. They have a lot of little quirks that seem to come with bottle fed kitties, but they are very special to us.

Happy 6th birthday to Olive! Hope she has a long and happy life with you!

I am very glad that you saved Betty and Mike :goodvibes You were very kind to those little kittens and love saved their lives :goodvibes Love has the power to save lives  :goodvibes Do you have any photos of Mike and Betty :)

Looks just like Loki, Winnie and Gimli. All three of them all black. Gimli is at Rainbow Bridge, Loki is in Ohio with my oldest and Winnie is in here bugging me as usual.

I am very sorry that Gimli has left this world :sad1:

I think hero-ism is the point of this thread,,,n'est pas?:rolleyes1

I don't think you are entirely correct in this statement, FC was just telling how something came to pass, and although I don't always agree with FC, I too know why somethings happen for a reason. Last summer on my way back from vacation, the car in front of me hit a squirrel, he was still alive, so I got out and put him on the side of the road, did he live probably not but I at least thought I would give him a chance in case he was just stunned. Forward to last Fall I had 2 baby squirrels in my yard, whose mother was dead........how did I know this? because she was one who always came to the back door for peanuts, I raised those 2 babies and they are still here in the yard, am I thinking I am a hero? NO, I just related a story that seemed to have a connection (at least what I thought) to the saving of the squirrel last summer. FC was not trying to be a hero, he was relating something that he thought he was somewhere for some reason at the right time, and at least Olive got a wonderful home and life, there is no reason to keep putting down people for doing good deeds. It's like saying everyone who posts on the CB wanting prayers or relating all the bad things in their lives are craving attention. We all have situations that we like to relate to others and there are alot of people who want to read them, we don't have to think these people are craving attention or wanting to pretend they are heros. There are many heros in this world, whether they are fighting wars, saving animals, working in hospitals or volunteering.

Great post, chyam, and nice story. Small acts of kindness keep the world sane.
Hello, FC! Hope you are well. Give Olive a little pat for me. :)

Why do you keep bumping up years old threads of posters that are no longer DISers?

Two old threads that I came across while looking at others. Thought that they were newer, but they weren't :P Sorry!
(and it was only two threads, it wasn't like ten)
