The Liberal Thread #2 - No Debate Please

So, it really looks like McCain will be the equivalent of a third Bush term. :scared1:

I watched McCain's speech last night. He's running against hope and inspiration. So what is McCain bringing to the table: More war, no change in trade policy,no change in healthcare, etc. That'll get them running to the polls.

You almost wish Huckabee stood a chance. At least the contrast between him and Obama won't be embarassing.

Plagiarism is using others words or ideas without citation. Permission is irrelevant. If I give you permission to copy my work and you turn it in without citation, it is still plagiarism. There is some leeway given for using he words of political speech writers. But the same words should not be recycled for use by other politicians without citation. That is also plagiarism.

I'm sorry, but you are simply wrong. As long as permission is granted, it is not plagiarism. Look up the word in the dictionary. You are mistaking academic cheating for plagiarism.

Yep, can't count out on the Clinton machine.

Yes...I think, at this point, you can. According to MSNBC estimates after last night, and assuming that Barack wins the states that he's currently expected to win (North Carolina, Vermont...a few others), Hillary would have to win every one of the "big" states left - Ohio, Texas, Pennsylvania - by at LEAST a 65-35 margin in delegates just in order to catch up with Barack by the end. Considering how close the polls are getting in those states and adding in the momentum he has after winning a state like Wisconsin that was tailor-made for Hillary...at this point, I really do think it is all over but the shouting.

I just sincerely hope that someone in her campaign has the sense to realize that and that they reign in some of the negative nonsense. I think the debate tomorrow night will be a good indication of what they truly think about their chances. If they come out swinging, then they still think they can win. If they take the cordial approach that they did in California, then they know it's over and don't want to damage the Democratic nominee for President of the United States!

"Loved your outfit tonight Hillary"
"Fabulous shoes, Barack"

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Umm...need I remind you of Huckabee's Flintstonian view of Earth's history? :teeth:

I'm thinking that she's going to come out swinging because that's who she is. I love that when she's going up against the Republicans, but not when she's going up against someone in her own party.

NO:eek: ....He dont dont think Fred & Wilma excisted!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Not so much about Fred and Wilma as it is about Fred having a pet dinosaur. :teeth:

It's not Huckabee that bothers me, it's the fact that he has a not so insignificant group of people jogging along beside him that believe exactly the same way AND want all of US to believe that way too. I've got no issue if a person wants to believe the literal truth of the Bible, that's fine. But don't ask me to do it and don't make it some kind of criteria for a Supreme Court Justice or elected official.

Just reading today's Boston Globe...

Obama surges past Clinton

MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - Barack Obama has surged past Hillary Clinton to open a big national lead in the Democratic presidential race, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

more stories like thisObama also leads Republican front-runner John McCain in a potential November election match-up while Clinton trails McCain, enhancing Obama's argument he is the Democrat with the best shot at capturing the White House.

Among Republicans, McCain has a substantial national lead over his last major challenger, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, as he takes his final steps toward clinching the nomination.

Heading into crucial March 4 nominating contests in Ohio and Texas, Obama has gained the upper hand in a close and fierce Democratic duel with Clinton. McCain broke open the Republican race and has driven out most of his leading rivals.

The poll showed Obama with a 14-point edge over Clinton, 52 percent to 38 percent, after being in a statistical tie with the New York senator last month.

Obama's new lead follows a string of 10 wins in February for the Illinois senator, who has moved ahead in the battle for pledged delegates who vote on the party's nominee at the August convention.

"Obama has the hot hand and you can clearly see his momentum in the national numbers," pollster John Zogby said. "This is what happens when you win a bunch of primaries in a row -- or maybe this is why you win a bunch of primaries in a row."

The poll was taken last Wednesday through Saturday, before a weekend controversy over Obama's uncredited recycling of speech lines from a friend, and before Obama captured two more wins in Wisconsin and Hawaii on Tuesday to extend his winning streak.

In the poll, Obama led Clinton among Democrats and independents, in all age groups except seniors and in all income groups except those making under $25,000 a year. He led narrowly among whites and more widely among men. He was tied among women with Clinton, who would be the first woman U.S. president.

Obama, who would be the first black U.S. president, was the choice of 4 of 5 black voters. Clinton attracted two-thirds of Hispanic voters, who comprise a big bloc in Texas.

"It can all turn on a dime and it already has turned on a dime. This has been a roller coaster of a race," Zogby said.

OBAMA BEATS MCCAIN

In a head-to-head matchup, Obama beat McCain 47 percent to 40 percent. He led McCain among independents, in all age groups except those above 70, and in all regions but the South.

McCain beat Clinton 50 percent to 38 percent in a head-to-head matchup. The Arizona senator led Clinton in all regions of the country, among independents and in all age groups.

"At least for now, these numbers suggest Obama has the potential to build a stronger general election coalition than Clinton," Zogby said. "They also suggest Clinton has a lot of catching up to do."

McCain picked up 18 percent of the black vote in a match-up with Clinton but only 3 percent against Obama, a possible sign at least some black voters would not put aside their allegiance to Obama if Clinton won the nomination.

"There could be potentially disaffected Obama supporters who will vote for Obama but not Clinton," Zogby said.

In the Republican race, McCain led Huckabee by 47 percent to 32 percent, gaining 19 points in a month marked by a series of primary wins that gave him a commanding delegate lead in the race for the nomination.

Huckabee says he will stay in the Republican race until McCain wins the 1,191 delegates needed to clinch the nomination. His presence is a reminder of McCain's trouble with conservatives, who are unhappy with his stances on immigration and other issues.

Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister whose rise has been fueled by support from religious conservatives, led 51 percent to 29 percent among those who described themselves as very conservative.

The other remaining Republican candidate, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, drew 7 percent, with 8 percent unsure of their support.

The poll surveyed 494 likely Democratic primary voters and 434 likely Republican primary voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points for Democrats and 4.8 percentage points for Republicans.

I thought the news about Obama v. McCain was pretty good.

I'm thrilled but I'm concerned that complacency will set in. All those new voters have to stay energized!

The potential is amazing...do you see the numbers of people voting on our side? McCain not only needs to win over the Huckabee folks, he's going to have to find away to start attracting a lot of people who haven't bothered to come to the polls.

Umm...need I remind you of Huckabee's Flintstonian view of Earth's history? :teeth:

I see your point. :lmao:

That's what's left on the Republican side: A guy who thinks/acts/speaks as if he's on loan from Leisure World retirement center or a fundamentalist preacher who believes he was created from mud and everything else came along in the next 6 days.

And people who complain about the choices on our side of aisle. :rotfl:

Did you see how Cindy McCain backed down from that little dig ("I've always been proud to be an American!) yesterday at Michelle Obama? When pressed by the media on what exactly she meant by it, she shook her head and said "No comment", to which her husband followed with a "No comment" of his own. Why would you put out a dig, and if I can be honest, a pretty good one at that, if you don't have the guts to back it up?

Stepford wives are only allowed to speak one sentence at a time.

That is one of the most awesome things about the primaries so far, how many people have turned out for the Democrats!

As for McCain--it's like Bob Dole all over again. Big snoozer.

Bob Dole was a hard hitting partisan.

I don't dislike McCain, and nor do I think he is a bad candidate. Under other circumstances I can see the country lining behind him. He is not part of the "christian right-wing" (something, unfortunately for him, most of them recognize), and he votes issues not party (another thing, unfortunately for him, the right-wing sees).

I also think he has much more integrity than the average US Senator.

It should be a good election.

Yanno, I've always wondered about these people who are "always proud to be an American". When I saw those photos from Abu Ghraib, I was ashamed. When I hear government officials talk about torture and how it's needed, I'm ashamed.

I'm ashamed that my America has sunk so low. I'm ashamed that my America spit on the principles that this country was founded on.

People who are "always proud", no matter what slime and digust is done in their name, allow me to further understand how an educated and sophisticated people like the Germans could follow a madman over the cliff.

So these people can stick their "I'm always proud" where the sun doesn't shine. It'll keep their head company.

I can't agree with you more, and I'm glad somebody said it.... I don't know how anyone could be proud of these things.

Maybe so, but I was in college during that election. It was the first time I could vote for POTUS. He was not a very interesting candidate. It was sort of like, "Well, Bob ol' buddy, you've been on Capitol Hill a long time. Maybe it's been long enough so that you can run for President." So uninspiring. :bored:
