Well, I suppose this may be what John McCain meant when he said we could be in Iraq for 100 years:

More Than 1,000 in Iraq’s Forces Quit Basra Fight

By STEPHEN FARRELL and JAMES GLANZ
Published: April 4, 2008

BAGHDAD — More than 1,000 Iraqi soldiers and policemen either refused to fight or simply abandoned their posts during the inconclusive assault against Shiite militias in Basra last week, a senior Iraqi government official said Thursday. Iraqi military officials said the group included dozens of officers, including at least two senior field commanders in the battle.

The desertions in the heat of a major battle cast fresh doubt on the effectiveness of the American-trained Iraqi security forces. The White House has conditioned further withdrawals of American troops on the readiness of the Iraqi military and police

For the love of God! I mean seriously - why are we wasting our time. I'm suppose to believe these people WANT democracy? That they WANT to be free?

DH works with a gay republican so they do exist. Maybe they like guns and tax breaks for the poor. I mean, I don't agree with the democrats on everything either.

One of my good friends is a gay republican. He is perfectly fine with churches not allowing gay marriage, and he is also fine with not getting a "marriage" license. However he does wish he could get a legal civil union from the state.

Ya know I don't like Bush but I would never Boo him in public. And I'm pretty sure Cardinal nation would have treated him with more respect then the "Nationals" did.

I agree with you..... like him or not he is president and should be shown respect for serving in that position.

Yeah, I'm not real comfortable with that either. I probably would have gone and stood in the beer line and not watched-but I wouldn't have boo'ed.

:lmao: Respect? For George Dubya Bush? :lmao:

I'd have been booing that clown so loudly I wouldn't have been able to talk for two days after. ;) He would deserve respect for serving in the position if he hadn't done so very much to sully it while he was doing so. The man's a disgrace to the oval office.

I'll bet the house that if Barr runs, he'll easily get more votes than Nader.

He'll certainly have great appeal in the Bible Belt. He's the somewhat "saner" version of Huckabee. I'm for anyone who will siphon votes away from McCain. I hope he runs.

40 years ago today Dr. Martin Luther King was gunned down in Memphis by James Earl Ray. John McCain had the bad taste to speak from the same balcony this morning. It made me retch. At least it was raining and the cameras couldn't 'get' his face for all the umbrellas. :thumbsup2

This is the guy who TWICE worked to prevent Arizona from naming a day after Dr. King. Blech.

That about sums him up. :sad2:

I would have definitely booed. He doesn't deserve my respect - he was only president for the right side of the aisle - never cared or engaged the other side after that abominable No Child Left Behind act.

Well, whattyanno, common ground.

This bum didn't get half the disrespect he deserves. He has ordered torture and crapped on the Constitution. That doesn't get respect from me.

I'm just glad I wasn't there. I'd have been stuck on the horns of that dilemma. The office deserves respect, George W. Bush does not.

I have to agree... Yes, the office is deserving of respect, however Bush did not respect the office for which he held, thus he gets no respect from me, I'd have had no problem booing the man...

Agreed. His father, no boos. Reagan, no boos. Ford, no boos. Nixon, probably.

At least Nixon went to China. What did Dubya do? Invade a country that never attacked us? I probably would not have booed. He is the President. I would not have clapped either. Just sit silently with hands folded across chest. What a $%^*%$

Turned your back? I guess that's disrespect but without the noise though.

I think silence would have been better, particularly at a baseball game where there is never any silence. I don't know if I would have turned my back. It is as disrespectful as booing almost. Just sitting there with no acknowledgment is exactly what he deserves.

IMO,what he deserves is to be impeached, tried, convicted and imprisoned.
