The Liberal Thread #2 - No Debate Please

The comments were pretty bad, even in context. The clever continual insertion of Obama's middle name, linked to a projection about how he's going to go chat with the President of Iran creates the desired "he's really a Muslim and he's going to get us all killed" background theme that SOME in the Right are already humming.

I thought McCain's remarks were appropriate, but it would have been better had he said them in front of the people who had just heard the speech by Cunningham. I know these guys can't control everyone who opens their mouth in support of them, but they've got to have a quick response when someone does do something like that.

He was clearly pandering by repeatedly saying, "Barack Hussein Obama."

He's been using Obama's middle name for about 6 months. That *IS* his middle name. This is nothing new.

Unlike some other disparaging "middle names" give to other conservatives (Rush "Pill Poppin" Limbaugh)

Yes it is his middle name, but you can't deny that Cunningham knew *exactly* what he was doing - i.e. playing on some people's fears that Obama is a Muslim and trying to secretly turn the US into a Muslim state.

As far as other disparaging middle names, I don't think name calling has anywhere in politics, even if I find the person's actions highly inappropriate.

Either McCain truly didn't know who Cunningham was or he's pulling a "Hillary" and doing a CYA.

Cunningham was playing to his crowd - the very conservative far right. He was using the usuall fear mongering tactics and it back fired. His comments didn't sit well with the crowd.

I give McCain :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 for doing the right thing.

Yeah, I don't know why John(Charade) doesn't understand that Cunningham's comments were totally unacceptable but I'm glad McCain did. Shows me McCain still has some of that respectability I used to see in him.

Side note: the men on either side of McCain when he spoke were Rod Parsley(MCCains left, our right) - a VERY powerful evangelist here in Ohio and Ken Blackwell's best friend. On his right was another VERY conservative politician here in Ohio, Mike Dewine. Mr. Dewine WAS a US Senator from Ohio until he was soundly defeated by Sherrod Brown. Seeing McCain flanked by those two made me chill to the bone. Parsley was Rove's go to man on the 2nd national election where we had the anti-gay marriage amendment placed on our ballots and the evagelicals came out in droves to vote for it AND Bush.

Using Barrack Obama's middle name is meant to insinuate that he's a Muslim. If that were not true they'd also be saying Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton. it's blatant racism and he's NOT a muslim. Rush Limbaugh WAS a pill popper by his own admission. So I guess that shoe fits.

Muslims aren't a different race.

(sorry for the intrusion. stepping out...)

No, he's been adding a middle name. "Barack Mohammed Hussein Obama" is how Cunningham has referred to Barack on the air. But thanks for playing.

I agree with the others that McCain showed some class repudiating this guy's baloney. Good for him.

Yeah, but Rush "Pill Poppin" Limbaugh isn't running for President. His repeatedly using Obama's middle name and emphasizing it meant one thing and one thing only, John, and you know it. It was totally uncalled for and McCain did not "cave", he did the right thing and called him out. Good for McCain! Maybe we'll finally get a Presidential campaign where the candidates talk about the issues instead of trying to outsmear each other.

wow :sad2:

Cunningham's a straight shooter. I watched the news this morning and boy did they take it out of context. McCain caved.

'Straight shooter' isn't the term that most people would use to refer to him.
Can't repeat that here our I'd get points. And Druggie goes on and blasts McCain for criticizing him. No wonder right wing cons are increasingly considered a joke.

albeit a very unfunny joke.;)

Using his middle name is one thing. It's a crass thing to do but it is factual I suppose. But how can anyone justify including the other name too? This is all just meant to incite the loyal members of the Right.

Right out of the book of Goebels.

I watched the video this morning..and not just 2 seconds of it. I got the message loud and clear. He's obviously a master at inciting his "folks". :sad2:

Speaking of jokes, someone on the right wing board is going on how both Obama and Clinton are communists. Some of these folks make this Cunningham guy look like Abby Hoffman.

I'd be willing to bet that they think that ALL Liberals are Communists. I see that this person was upset because supposedly some Liberals and Conservatives were getting along for a few minutes. Perish the thought!!! :rotfl2:
