One more....What is a "valid elector"!
Ok...Two more! What happens if after the election (i gather some one double checks) people gave bad "last 4 digits" of their Social Security number?
A valid elector is someone who are registered to vote in Wisconsin. I believe that the voters who give bad DL or SSN information will not be permanently registered to vote, but there is no way to invalidate their vote.

I ask about the ID thing, cause My parents who a very much americans, and live in Pa...BUT dont have valid id.
That's one of the reasons why "moter voter" sucks in so many ways.

In California you have to sign up with your county's Elections office about 3 weeks before the vote, the process includes giving them your ID, and after they confirm your eligibility they mail you a voter ID card that says you are registered. You don't need to show the card to vote though, everyone has to show ID that matches the log.

It's very different in Oklahoma. In the primary, you have to tell your party. They look you up on the rolls and you sign to get your party's ballot. I've never been asked for ID. So I suppose you could go early and claim to be someone you are not, but I've never tried it. ;) It's my understanding that if you aren't on the rolls you need to sign up so many days in advance of the election. Same thing if you want to change parties.

I understand that states don't like to be told how to do things. But I'm beginning to think that we really need to standardize voting proceedures.

Which is?????

Hmmm....I just always brought my driver's liscense and I know the state ID would be accepted also. If you didn't have either of those I am not sure what you could bring.

Thanks for the info.
For a living I tell Corporation where their "holes" are in the IT systems.....soooooo I tend to ask lots of questions when I "see" holes in any system.

The Voting system is like Swiss Cheese!:sad2:

Mom & Dad never drove.....they are in their 80's and this recently became a issue! What is bad is that...they can get credit online, and vote by mail with no problem...BUT to show up in person is a problem. No consistancy!:confused3

BIG TIME!
I know in NY, and here in PA ONLY registaered Democrats can vote for Democrats, and registered Republicans can vote for Rebuplicans. And you have to be registered (i think ) for at least 6 weeks prior to any election.

The radio show i was listening too yesterday was pointing out that in the States That only Democrats can vote for Democrats, Hillary won. Thats why people are questioning Obamas validity as a Democrat nominee.:confused3 And thats why Ferraro NYT is explaining why there are Super Delagates.
They were also suggesting the Republicans are voting for Obama thinking that is the ONLY way the GOP will win in Nov.

It all sounded plausible (and confusing) too me.:confused3

I wonder if your state has an id you can get at the drivers license bureau. It's like a drivers license but not. It is strictly for id purposes for cashing a check or flying on an airplane or voting. My aunt got one when she gave up her license to drive.

In PA they just check your signature to the one you signed when you registered. But first time voters MUST bring a card that is mailed to their house.

Thanks ohhhhhh Mystery poster!:goodvibes

What if your paystub was from another state? Did the Utility bill have to be in your name?

LOL no mystery, just too lazy to switch screen names since dd posts more than I do..I'm more of a lurker......Plus my computer is haunted and whenever I do switch screen names, it usually switches back to hers once I submit a reply so I give up.!! LOL....FTR, my screen name is jme829...

By the way, the utility bill had to have my name and address on it. I assume the checkstub would be the same, I didn't use that because I just got my job so I haven't been paid yet and it is in Minnesota so wasn't sure how that would work anyhow.

Just saw a TV commercial. Barak Obama EXCLUSIVE interview tonight on Entertainment Tonight!

So to lighten the mood on this thread a little....DISUNC, remember last night we were discussing "guys and dolls?" Well today I was listening to to "Annie" (I love show tunes) and I thought the song "We'd like to thank you, Herbert Hoover" would be hilarious and completely appropriate to our current economic situation if we just changed the name to George Bush.

[ALL]
Today we're living in a shanty
Today we're scrounging for a meal

[SOPHIE]
Today I'm stealing coal for fires
Who knew i could steal?

[MEN]
I used to winter in the tropics

[WOMEN]
I spent my summers at the shore

[FRED]
I used to throw away the paper--

[ALL]
We'd like to thank you: Herber Hoover
For really showing us the way
We'd like to thank you: Herbert Hoover
You made us what we are today

Prosperity was 'round the corner
The cozy cottage built for two
In this blue heaven
That you
Gave us
Yes!

We're turning blue!
They offered us Al Smith and Hoover
We paid attention and we chose
Not only did we pay attention
We paid through the nose.

In ev'ry pt he said "a chicken"
But Herbert Hoover he forgot
Not only don't we have the chicken
We ain't got the pot!
Hey Herbie

[WOMEN]
You left behind a grateful nation

[ALL]
So, Herb, our hats are off to you
We're up to here with admiration

[SOPHIE]
Come down and have a little stew

[ALL]
Come down and share some Christmas dinner
Be sure to bring the missus too
We got no turkey for our stuffing
We'd like to thank you, Herbert Hoover
For really showing us the way
You dirty rat, you Bureaucrat, you
Made us what we are today
Come and get it, Herb!

Good News from the Reps today.

McCain had a rally in Ohio where some yahoo radio whacko named Bill Cunningham was sent in by the McCain folks to "warm up the crowd." Well apparently he got a little too warm, and McCain ended up issuing a long series of mea culpas.

So this Cunningham character gets his short pants all up in a bunch, and comes out lambasting campaign, and bringing in calls of support from the cadre of other Con talk show hosts. Cunningham spews out on CNN tonight how McCain is no conservative, never has been and he's gonna vote for Clinton.

I love those guys.

I was watching the byte from cunningham's opening/intro and all I could think was...they HAVE to be in Cincinnati. No offense intended to liberal cincians but seriously.....that guy came straight from a KLAN meeting. His clothes didn't fit, he's obviously a member of one of the white's only country clubs and OMG, I mean he made me laugh out loud. When I was a child, people like that scared me. Thank goodness there are fewer of them.

wow :sad2:

Cunningham's a straight shooter. I watched the news this morning and boy did they take it out of context. McCain caved.

At an Ohio rally, a radio host introducing the Republican derides his rival as 'a hack' and 'the great prophet from Chicago.'
By Maeve Reston, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
February 27, 2008
CINCINNATI -- A speaker introducing Republican presidential candidate John McCain at a rally here Tuesday ridiculed Democratic contender Barack Obama for his intention to meet with "world leaders who want to kill us" and pointedly referred to the Illinois senator as "Barack Hussein Obama."

Local conservative radio host Bill Cunningham went on to describe Obama as "a hack Chicago, Daley-style politician who is picturing himself as change."

"When he gets done with you, all you're going to have in your pocket is change," he said.

McCain later condemned Cunningham's remarks and apologized to Obama.

Cunningham's introduction came before McCain had arrived at the rally of about 400 people in Hamilton County Memorial Hall.

The radio host told the crowd he'd had a dream about "Barack Hussein Obama's wonderful life a year from today." In the dream, he said, Obama was president and had just met with Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and was set to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Il. Then, Cunningham said, Obama was going to "saddle up next to Hezbollah."

"All's going to be right with the world when the great prophet from Chicago takes the stand, and the world leaders who want to kill us will simply be singing [Kumbaya] together around the table with Barack Obama," Cunningham continued.

Some members of the audience laughed, cheered and applauded during Cunningham's remarks; others said they were embarrassed by them.

Speaking to reporters after the rally, McCain apologized for the remarks and said he took "full responsibility."

"Any offense that was inflicted I apologize for," he said, adding that he was outside the building when Cunningham spoke.

"Whatever suggestion was made that was in any way disparaging to the integrity, character [or] honesty of either Sen. Obama or Sen. Clinton was wrong, and I condemn it."

Asked whether Obama's middle name was an appropriate topic for discussion during the campaign, McCain said, "No, it is not."

"I absolutely repudiate such comments, and again, I will take responsibility. It will never happen again," the Arizona senator said.

Aides to McCain said Cunningham was invited to speak by local Republican officials who organized the event with the campaign. McCain said he had never met Cunningham, though Cunningham said he'd met McCain twice at Ohio events.

Beverly Weeks, a 59-year-old nurse who identified herself as an independent, said she was "mortified" by Cunningham's remarks. "I'm . . . Cincinnati-raised, and to go up and make it comedy . . . " she said. "There were people around me . . . who were embarrassed, and some were even saying they wanted to get up and leave."

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said the candidate accepted the apology: "We appreciate Sen. McCain's remarks. It is a sign that if there is a McCain-Obama general election, it can be intensely competitive but the candidates will attempt to keep it respectful and focused on issues."

Cunningham attacked McCain on his radio show shortly after the rally, at one point saying he would vote for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

"To have John McCain repudiate me when he didn't hear the remarks at all. . . . He didn't hear 'em!" Cunningham said. "He just threw me under the bus to the national media."
