The Liberal Thread #2 - No Debate Please

I am so pleased Senator Obama won Missouri. :goodvibes "As goes Missouri so goes the nation" at least it has in every race but one since the early 50s. I'm hoping this is a foreshadowing of November! :woohoo:

Mo was interesting. I believe the difference between Obama and Clinton was less than 1% and the breakdown was interesting also.

I am a moderate republican who supports McCain, but does like Obama. I don't agree with his politics, but I think he has integrity. I don't think I'd vote for him, but a McCain vs. Obama race would at least be refreshing. For that reason I am torn, because while I like seeing Obama succeed, I think he is also more of a threat to McCain than Hillary.

I will say this, however, while Obama can be inspiring, talks a great game, and is a great speaker, I have yet to hear much substance. All I hear is change, blah, blah, blah, tomorrow not yesterday, blah, blah, blah. I was listening to his speech last night and though the first 5 minutes was good, but it kept droning on with the same change language and I kept waiting for something else with a little more meat.

Unless Obama can really put forth some reasonable and pragmatic solutions to the problems facing the country, he may not have as easy of a time with McCain as many here seem to think.

Read about his plans - just because he didn't fill his speech last night with detailed plans doesn't mean he doesn't have any.

Two things I really took from a long night of watching returns last night:

1 - Hillary's in trouble. Losing Connecticut and Missouri were huge losses for her - in two states that a month ago weren't even competitive. Yes, she won California, but if that primary had been held a month from now, I'm not sure it would have gone the same way. The Chesapeake primaries (DC, VA, and MD) next week could very well be an Obama sweep, and all of the upcoming primaries between now and the next "Super Tuesday" look very good for him. With that much momentum, she be fighting a losing battle by the time Texas comes along.

Obama has the money and the momentum I think - the primaries this weekend and next Tuesday benefit him for sure.

Obama winning CT and MO were big wins - Hillary was expected to carry MA, NJ and CA.

Okay seriously - I'm ticked.

I checked out the "I support Mitt Romney thread" and for freaking real?!?!

I am all about supporting the candidate you choose. I have never ever insinuated those who choose to vote differently from myself are "uneducated" or as churchstein put it "People jump on the "change bandwagon" and seemingly aren't intelligent enough to realize that some change isn't necessarily good."

Where do people GET OFF?!?!

Make your choices for your own reasons, but DO NOT question my intelligence because I believe differently.

So I went over and took a look. Wow, they sound like my older brother. Whenever I seem to be getting the better of him in any kind of debate he always throws out a comment about me not having the mental capacity to "understand". Maybe this tactic of calling people stupid is just a popular move from the GOP play book?

But I will fess up to the angry liberal thing. In fact, I have a bumper sticker on my car right now that reads:
"If you aren't angry, you aren't paying attention."

Don't you feel you have a freakin lot to be angry about at present?

Yep, all thoughtful, open-minded folks are welcome to stay a while. (It certainly sounds like I live in Missouri, now doesn't it?:rotfl: ) Seriously, welcome to our little corner of the DIS, UConnJack.

I'll keep one eye on Obama. He's too liberal on his ideas and plans at the moment for me, but we'll see what kind of middle ground he finds once the primaries are over (if he wins) and has to appeal to the middle more. I doubt very much he'll sway me from McCain, but hopefully he can become a candidate I can at least accept in the White House if that's how it ends up.

I do think Obama needs to put more of his policy in his speaches, it's a common complaint I've heard from people who say they like him, but not sure they want to vote for him because they don't know his policy plans. While I feel people should take the time to research all the candidates, clearly there are those that want/need to have it spoon fed to them. If that's what it takes for Obama to pick up a few points, I think he should do it, it won't hurt and just might help.

Oh I love it too as a moderate republican. I have felt like a person without a party over the last several elections, having had the GOP hijacked by the far right. Hopefully we can pull the GOP back to the center where it belongs (and maybe pull a few conservative democrats our way too....;) )

It makes me feel a lot better about the upcoming election to think that it's most likely going to be McCain on the ballot in November. If the worst happens, I'd much prefer a moderate Republican in the White House than a full-on conservative. After this last POTUS, even that would be a breath of fresh air! :rotfl:

DisUnc and I are always joking it might come down to us in PA, but I'm beginning to wonder if that actually won't be the truth. I honestly can't recall an election year like this. Barring any unforseen incident, I'm pretty sure McCain has it in the bag, but Hillary and Obama is still quite the horse race. It's exciting, but not gut wrenching (as I would hope it wouldn't be for most Dems), because I would gladly vote for either one.

I feel the same way-either one!! I'm an Obama supporter and I find it scary that more Clinton supporters are not saying they're willing to support the winning candidate. :thumbsup2 I guess I'm just tired of hard headed W and I'm wishing for some good old Dem love!!!! Work for your candidate and be happy we had several good choices!!! After the convention, we all HAVE to work together so we might as well start smiling now.
Hug me.:grouphug: Peace

Yeah - there is quite a lot to be angry about still. Some of it directed at the dems in Congress that I feel are not doing enough.

But - it is also great to feel that there is hope on the horizon. KWIM?

Woah - hold the phone!!:) I think you have that backwards! There are far more Clinton supporters saying they will stand behind Obama if he get the nom. It has even been discussed here on this thread. Or maybe the now closed thread.

You have that one totally wrong! I hear MANY more, even those that post on this thread that refuse to vote for Hillary if she gets the nom but will gladly stand behind Obama.

People have a prejudice against Hillary that clouds their judgement. My wish is that more people would look at Hillary through fresh eyes, not see her as "Bill's wife" or "former First Lady"

I know many Obama supporters, myself included, that would be perfectly ok with supporting Clinton if she gets the nod.
Then you have Clinton supporters like my mother, who would pick McCain over Obama.

Me too, which is why I added her sign to my signature. Would these Obama supporters that are refusing to vote for Hillary if she wins really like to hand the election to a Republican who will likely spend his time in office following the GW Bush script??

Honu, I hope you don't mind, I borrowed your signature, I guess that's technically theft, so if you want me to give it back, I will okay?? I've just GOT HOPE!

No problem.

Yes, We Can. :woohoo:
