Oh well. I hope she can travel comfortably.

Hope your friend is comfortable and recovers at your place.

I don't think that is as much of a problem. I think it is with her at home alone she does too much for herself so by being with us I guess that means I get to do a lot. But it's not that big of a deal. I just cook for two crips instead of one, with paper plates I don't have that many more dishes to do. She doesn't have cable. So I can't imagine what she is doing during the days. At least at our house she has plenty of cats to keep her company and more TV channels than she knows what to do with!

TV will help but being able to talk to a person will probably help the most.

Good night SkiingFast. If I don't catch you tomorrow, have a great time at DLR and I wanna hear all about it on your return. :goodvibes

I still have another whole day before I leave. Thanks though, it should be fun, it always is.

I don't like going up the Grapevine, I'm even more scared going down that part where the up and down roads switch sides. She knows that so usually she is so tired by the time that we get to Castaic she's ready to switch. I don't mind driving through the city traffic, I have more patience for city traffic than she does and she falls asleep in traffic.

We are about the opposite now. I learned to drive in a rural area, got used to cities, then got unused to city driving. Of course I'm fine in mountains.

Where or what is the Grapevine?

It's where Interstate 5 goes over the mountains north of LA.

Basically what skiingfast said, I'm not sure if the entire mountain part is technically considered the Grapevine, or just the Northernmost part near the town of Grapevine. However most people consider the whole part.

I don't mind small, narrow mountain roads, but huge expansive freeways over giant passes frak me out now. They didn't used to. I'm the same way with the Santa Susanna pass (118), bit I'm sort OK with the Cajon pass (though I have never actually been the driver on it.)

Okay. Thanks. I probably drove past it and didn't realise. We've driven up/down LA/SF at least 2 or 3 times using the I-5 before. Next time, I'll be more vigilant.

So it would be fine, if it wasn't like a nascar race?

I think it's more the wide open expansive spaces and the fact that you can see big cliffs and things. I don't mind the mountain roads where you are shielded by trees and things and you can't see the huge cliffs.

From Wikipedia:

Grapevine is an unincorporated community in Kern County, California.[1] At an elevation of 1499 feet (457 m),[1] the community is located at the foot of a road grade known as The Grapevine through the Tejon Pass in the Tehachapi Mountains at the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley along Interstate 5 (formerly U.S. Route 99). The village consists mainly of roadside services. The village and grade are named, not for the once-winding road known as the Ridge Route that used to climb the steep mountain pass , but for the wild grapes that still grow along the original road. The grade was infamous for its high accident rate before the road was straightened and widened. The road is still occasionally closed due to heavy snowfall during winter storms. As the Grapevine is the major route between Northern and Southern California, any closure is a major disruption to traffic along the West Coast.

To the south of the settlement is the Grapevine Canyon, through which I-5 and the Grapevine Creek run, the latter beginning in the Castaic Valley at Lebec.

So it's the though of plunging off the edge? I can understand that. I don't look down.

To many movies with car chases that end in disaster?
