Supposedly the two seniors this year that will be super seniors next year will be the last allowed to come back as "super seniors". Some new NC law that says once they "walk" in the graduation ceremony they're done. If they want to take full advantage of school until they're 21 as the law says they can then they have to postpone their actual graduation until then. I don't think that's fair at all and we really had to push for them to let A.J. walk this year. My feeling, though, is that he's stayed on track for the past four years and he's gotten all the credits that he had to have to graduate so he should be able to graduate and go through all the ceremonies with "his" class if he wants to. He has gone to school with some of this year's graduating class since kindergarten!
We have a law - called "brittany's law" that allows students to graduate with the class they started with. They can only graudate once though-- meaning only one ceremony. They can stay in school until the day before their 22nd birthday. The kids like it better when then "have" to come back, being able to say they already graduated. glad he was able to take advantage of the "super senior" rule.

Our school only allows the kids to "graduate" once also, which I think is perfectly fair.
We've been told that we can petition the school system to allow A.J. to stay in school until the end of the school year of the school year that he turns 22 in. He will turn 22 in December of 2010 and then hopefully he'll be able to stay in school until May/June of 2011. He loves school so much that it's going to be very hard when it's time for him to leave.
Friday is "house keeping day" I am not teaching this year. I am doing Special Education Admistrative "stuff" I am the case manager and departmant chairperson so I do a LOT of paperwork and copies and more paperwork. I usually spend Friday's waiting for the SLOW copy machine to copy IEP's from the week so I can mail them home.
I wish I had a class this year-- I hate being out of the loop with the kids I only get to see them at their IEP meeting or if they are in trouble.
