Thanks for the great final night wrap-up. We ate there twice about a week or so ago, once for dinner and then lunch on the day before closing. We waited too long to get a last-day ADR.
We are very sorry to see Alfredo's go. They had been there some 25 years. We enjoyed all of our meals there. Two, in particular, stand out -- one with our boys on the day Epcot was closing due to Hurricane Charley. Our waitress, Cinza, was so great with the boys, teaching them Italian words, posing for pictures, etc., even though the staff were in a hurry to feed everyone due to the impending weather. We had great fun, notwithstanding.
Another time, DH and I arrived after the lunch crowd had gone and spent a lazy afternoon eating, speaking with the waiters and busboy, DH practicing his Italian. We consumed a couple of bottles of wine as the afternoon slipped pleasantly away. Wonderful memories.
I agree that many seemed to dislike what appeared to us to be more authentically Italian cuisine than one gets at, say, an Olive Garden. I, for one, loved the Fettucine Alfredo and ordered it every time we went. Fresh pasta and lots of cheese! Yum! It was outstanding and so different from the gloppy white-sauce over boxed pasta served by most "Italian" restaurants. We never missed the tiramisu either.
Unfortunately, Alfredo's often was savaged on these boards, although I can immediately think of many places far more deserving of criticism than Alfredo's.
I hope the torrent of unjustified criticism on these boards is not what caused this, but I can't help but think the negativity on these boards contributed to Alfredo's demise. WDW apparently wasted no time in pushing them out the door!
I, too, am skeptical of what will take Alfredo's place. I suspect it will be more mainstream and far less interesting. Oh well. WDW patrons will get the restaurant they deserve!
Waiters I spoke with told me they will not be working for the new company and expect to be transferred.
Happily, I can go to the Alfredo's here in NYC for my fettucine fix!
Cheshire -- DH and I loved looking at the photos in the lobby -- and particularly coveted the photo with Alfredo and Orson Welles. So glad to hear it went to a good home!
