The large number of new Aulani resale contracts??

and for some of us - who orlando is a very close (non-flying) distance, who have members of our family who are flying averse... alauni is a once or twice in a lifetime trip....

Yes; I grew up in that region and never went to Florida growing up because the cost was expensive for flights. We definitely only went to Disneyland (and only one time!). But travel to Orlando from the middle of the country is shockingly cheap.
I feel like flights to Orlando just went way up in price and flights to Hawaii may have stayed similar. Part of it is that Southwest is no longer the cheap non stop airline it once was, at least for us.

I was looking at the Tampa Airport…. and then my wife found an article that called the freeway from Tampa to Orlando “The Deadliest Highway in America”…. “Do you want to take your children on the The Deadliest Highway in America?!? “

🤨

We're currently at wdw and flew into Tampa to drive over. First time we've ever done that. Flights were nearly half of what MCO would have been. I4 was too slow to be dangerous this time but we'll see how it goes on the way back. Probably added an hour or so for arrival but I'd do that again to save nearly a thousand dollars on airfare.

I agree with you.

For us Tampa is a lot more money. But sometimes if we are able to plan around the budget airlines schedule it's cheaper to fly into the Sanford airport, I'll have to map it and see if it the same highway.

The contract absolutely gives us the right to rent our ownership interests. It includes the word leasee in the definition of personal use.

DVC has the right to define what makes a membership a commercial one and they do have the right to make those stricter.

And if they want to ban owners from using third parties to advertise, they could try that…but would face a lot of pushback.

However, I don’t think they can decide that a specific type of rental…confirmed vs on demand…changes the nature of that rental. Meaning you could use a broker to advertise to book something but stop me because I already booked it

IMO, since what we rent are reservations and not points, I think it would hard pressed to even attempt to control how we rent.
I didn't say we don't currently have the right, I said we don't have an inalienable right - DVC does have the ability to take that right away based on the way the documents are drafted. Might they receive "pushback" and might they try to craft any restrictions such that it wouldn't overly upset the majority of the membership, yes. But that doesn't change what they could do.

We disagree because I don’t believe they can take away the right to rent…the POS gives us that right and any attempt to change that is a material change which would require the vote of owners.

They can set the rules around renting, but can never say renting is not allowed.

Agreed, it might be difficult for them to completely eliminate references to renting in the POS - but the restrictions they can place are not solely limited to commercial usage (which is what you have previously said).

The POS language says no approval needed from DVC to rent and that terms of rentals do not need to be approved by DVC…only that there needs to be a contract and that contract needs to include certain things.

In that regard, the rules they put in place can only be used to say you have shifted to a commercial use of your membership….

So, if they want to prohibit the use of a third part for advertising, they can try under the definition that they view that as commercial and not personal…

They can not say you can’t do it just because they don’t want you to…that would be DVC implicitly requiring their approval. We obviously read the POS differently. But, as I said, let’s get the thread back on topic.

We flew into TPA and out of SRQ for fall break week. Southwest recently added nonstops from SRQ to our home airport 3 days a week. I loved flying out of there. Rental car drop off is right across the street and zero line at security. I still prefer a larger airport upon arrival for generally better rental car selection. From the few times I’ve searched, MCO is much more expensive for us than TPA and SRQ

The plan was to spend the last few days by the beach but the hurricanes kept us in Orlando instead

FYI - You do need to call to change the Primary guest. This is already in place.
Interesting, I have never rented so Ive not needed to do this. So I guess my idea on cracking down is out the window. To me it's crazy that Disney doesnt notice/care when someone calls in to cage a primary guest on every reservation they make.

I just looked at the difference between booking with Alaska to fly to Hawaii and using Chase points to book Alaska to fly to Hawaii…

Chase was charging 2x as much!?!
When I booked Hawaiian it was the same price with the airline or with Chase, but I have heard that sometimes it can be way more. If you need to use Ultimate Rewards to book Alaska it can usually be done by transferring points to a Oneworld affiliated airline and book Alaska via them. Takes much more work than just using the chase portal unfortunately.
