Cast: Me, Kelli, just turned 40, Disney nut and major planner.
DH, Stephen, also 40, puts up with my Disney obsession, loves it almost as much (just won’t admit it.)

Day 2, September 16

We woke up bright and early in Forsyth, GA at 6:30 a.m. We both showered the night before, so we got out fast. That room was horrible. We ate in the car, me a soy Slimfast, Stephen a protein drink, and we are on our way. The scenery is great. I had no idea it was so pretty here.

We stop for lunch at Steak n Shake in Ocala. I love this place, and we don’t have them in CO. After lunch we head over to the Disney Welcome Center located at the same exit. It was very empty. We looked through the store, and checked park hours, and were on our way.

We arrive at the Boardwalk around 1:30 p.m. We have never stayed at the Boardwalk, and we are impressed. I didn’t know about the complimentary valet parking either. Now, when you are traveling for a few days, in a very small car, things get a little unkempt. I was so flustered to have these very professional valets asking me what I wanted to take to my room. “All of it, of course.” Stephen says, “Kel, it’s not all in a suitcase, do we need it all.” “Yes, we need it all” “Are you sure?” “Well, I suppose not all of it” So I organize what I can, and we send it off with Valet. We then proceed into the beautiful lobby. We go left because that’s the Villa side, and we are renting DVC points for this trip. It is very empty, no one in line at all. We hear “Welcome Home”, and our room was ready, so we tell bell services, and we’re off. Well, I was off to our room. Stephen remembered that he left all of our money, cash and travelers checks, in the glove box of the Bug. He had to go ask Valet to bring the car around so he could get it. I continued upstairs to our room. I don’t remember the room number, but it was a studio, on the third floor, overlooking the pool. This normally would have been a great view, however, the pool was being refurbished at that time, so we had a view of a lot of workers. We considered asking to be moved since it was pretty empty, but figured we wouldn’t be looking out the window that much any way.

Once Stephen comes back to the room, we check out our new digs, and then get ready to leave for Epcot. However, we remember the camera, it’s in the car. One more time to Valet, get the car, and get the camera. Now we’re off.

We arrive at Epcot at about 3:00 and it is deserted. This is the theme for the entire trip due to the 9/11 event. We activated our AP’s a the International Gateway, talked to a CM who relocated to Florida from CO, and headed in. We rode TT, UofE, SE, Wonders of Life, and walked around FW by 5:30. I was now extremely hungry, so we head to WS. I had a list of things I really wanted to do, and one thing was to eat at Yakatori in Japan. It was so good. We sat in the outside area behind the tower, and watched lizards. I know you may not find that fun, but we were amused. Those little lizards would sit so still, then attack an ant in its mouth, scrape it across the ground till it was dead, and swallow it up. Very fascinating for westerners like us.

It’s now about 6:30, and we have one hour to meet our group for our Illuminations cruise. I was so excited. However, I am a little cold. I know, it’s Florida, you say. I know, but I am always cold. Guess where my sweater is that I bought specifically for this trip so I could keep it in my backpack so I could put it on when I get chilly. You are correct! It’s in the car. My dear husband graciously offers to purchase me a Disney sweatshirt to ward off the chilly breeze. I tell him he is so sweet to buy this for me. He tells me it’s just because he will not embarrass himself by going to get the car, again. I know not to look a gift horse in the mouth, and accept the gift with a huge Disney smile on my face.

We then head to the UK where we were to meet our group somewhere near a tall sculpture out front. It’s kind of nerve wracking to walk up to a total stranger and say, “Hi, I’m Kelli, are ou Eric?” Good thing the answer was yes. Our group consisted all of Diser’s, but it’s been awhile, and I don’t remember everyone. Kamy and her husband (Detroit), Eric and his wife (Germany), another man and his father-in-law, and a family from England. However, the English family didn’t join us because they were tired. We had a great time. After we met, and were introduced, we headed for the boat dock at the Yacht Club. We met our captain, and took off. First we cruised towards MGM. Our captain filled us in on little trivia during the trip. We got to see the finale of Fantasmic and the fireworks before heading for Epcot. We pulled up next to another cruise, which I didn’t know at the time were other Diser’s. I even got in one of their pictures that they posted here. They were having a great time. But, so were we. Seeing Illuminations from that vantage point was so amazing. The only problem was the breeze was blowing in our direction (good thing I had that new sweatshirt :)), so I had ashes in my eye. Not a good thing when you wear contacts. When it was over, we sailed back to the Yacht Club, and said our farewells. It was a great way to start our first “no kids” vacation.

We walked back to the Boardwalk, took in the sites, shows and lack of people. We got a snack at the little store and were in bed by 10:30, exhausted and elated.

Tomorrow, MGM, here we come.

Great Trip reports.....thanks so much for writing. And a big WOW for driving all the way from CO !!!!!

Sounds like a perfect day! I love Epcot and Illuminations cruises are great. The view is so perfect and you can really see the synchronicity of the fireworks and music from that vantage point. Looking forward to more...

I have always wanted to go on the cruise but can never get one. It sounds like so much fun. Maybe next time. Glad you had a wonderful time. Funny about the valet.

We loved our Illuminations Cruise with Captain Derrell. It was the highlight of our trip.

Thanks for posting this, I enjoyed reading about your day.
