How many teachers here bring home work on the weekend?

I am trying to escape it, but it has to be done. Papers to grade, plans to make, etc. My goal is to get this stuff done during the school week, and have nothing to bring home over the weekend. but with the start of the school year, there is so much other stuff going on, it seems impossible...at least at the moment!

So, I am glad it's the weekend, cause I got to sleep in (till 8:00!)

I have my own time without the kids.

But I really wish all this stuff was done.

Plus, there's the house to clean!

Oh well. At least I have a job! I am very thankful for that.

Now back to balancing relaxing and working!

It's important this time of year that my older kids pick up some of the slack at the house.
I had to submit two goals for the year and one was "do less work at home"--that got a raised eyebrow from the asst. principal.
I don't know what grade you are--at the HS level, the kids really don't expect stuff back the next day, esp. with language arts and essays, etc. that are tough to grade. I've never had a kid complain that stuff took too long to return and I try to never work at home (sometimes, though, I grade papers while I wait at dance class or during soccer when my own kids aren't in the game).
My problem is I grade it and put in bins marked for each class--then I forget to pass it back! Usually a kid will eventually do it for me.;)

Aurora63,

I hate having to look forward to the weekend. I miss, "what day it is today?"

I struggle with papers and planning as well. I always say that I am going to bring things home, but I NEVER get them done at home. I am usually worrying about cleaning the house or taking my son to tennis...

I try to get as much done during my planning period as possible. It is difficult now for I only have 35 minutes a day for planning. I sometimes jot down ideas for plans everyday and then put them together at the end of the week. Any manipulatives or crafts I need I will put out the day before I leave.

I teach second grade now so as far as grading papers I can do that pretty quickly. I have not really had to use what they have done as grade as of yet. We are still just assessing.

I'm in third grade. I grade things and file them for the week, and then pass back on Friday. I, too, don't care if they get them back the next day or not...and in my class, they usually don't get them the next day.

I have a feeling some of the non essential papers will wind up in the circular file!
