The Jonas Brothers do NOT deserve a Grammy.

Out of all the times they were on television, or on an interview or something, how many times have they said it's all for the money?

My answer? None.

That may be true, and Im not trying to sound hostile here (Something you seemed to establish with your rant), but if they were REALLY into the music, for the music and for the fans, they would be out of Disney's evil grasp, a LONG time ago. I love Disney as much as the guy/kid whatever, but it seems like, when it comes to music, they are more interested in advertising the band then supporting them(Disney that is). They have GOBS of merch and GOBS of publicity. Is this bad? Yes and no. For Disney, its a dream come true, they get rabid fans and oodles of money, but for the band (If they have even an inch of pride) its a nightmare. They end up doing more photos for magizines and web sites and selling thier merchandise then spending time on the music and perfecting it, thus resulting in them looking like sell-outs. And for that fact alone, I believe is where they get this global amount of hate. If they didnt have that stupid Disney logo tattooed on thier asses, and Disney didnt advertise the crap outta them, people would be more accepting. Then again they would only have half the..."Fans". I personally do NOT like them. I respect those who do, but to me they are nothing more then a below average band full of pretty faces. The fact that they seem to do more advertising then perfecting thier musical talent, only grinds my gears more.

How are you saying that they are not in this for the music ?
There first record company was Columbia, and they dropped them and its not the boys fault. Columbia kept pushing the release date farther and farther.
So its not like the first thing they did was skip over to Disney. They actually made music before Disney. And like someones noted before they have to have some contract with Disney. They cant just say thanks and walk out.
And Yes, the Disney company is obsessed with advertising and making money.
Why the hell wouldnt any artist do interviews for magazines or have people buy there merchandise? Thats all apart of any artists job. How do you expect people to buy their albums if no one knows who the hell they are ? So are you calling every artist a "sell-out" because they do interviews for magazines or advertise ?
And it all goes down to your not a fan. You dont know how much time they put into their music. Not saying I do, im not with them every moment of the day.
I have to highly disagree with why thats why they get all the hate. I can come up with a number of reasons why people hate them. Im sure that people who hate them didnt even consider that they "dont perfect their music". They hate them because they are associated with Disney and because they've only heard songs like "Kids Of the Future" or "Year 3000", they havent even given them a chance.
They think because they have a bunch of screaming psychotic fans, that all the fans are the same and that we just love them because their cute.
Personally, Im a fan because I love their music, I love their personalities, I love that they have morals and were brought up right.
The fact that you see them as just another pretty face band grinds my gears.
Im not saying love them. But have you even given them a chance?. Have you really listened to their music ?
Or did you just pass them by and form bias opinions because their "just another disney band" ?

How are you saying that they are not in this for the music ?
I dont mean to come off as saying they ARNT into the music. Im saying they seem to be in it for more than the music. Thier music seems to be a second priority (Spelling sucks tonight).

Never said they didn't

That is infact me that said that. They ARE able to simply walk out though. And maybe my morals are a bit higher, but if I were in thier shoes, I would have walked out a while ago, contract or not.
They cant just say thanks and walk out.
True, but they can say "Hey, this is wrong. Bye bye Disney"
And Yes, the Disney company is obsessed with advertising and making money.
Yes they are
Why the hell wouldnt any artist do interviews for magazines or have people buy there merchandise?
Im not saying that interviews, photos and plubicity are bad. But when it gets to the level that its at for them (Right now) they look like EXTREME sell-outs
Thats all apart of any artists job. How do you expect people to buy their albums if no one knows who the hell they are ? So are you calling every artist a "sell-out" because they do interviews for magazines or advertise ?
One way an artist gets noticed is by getting out there and doing concerts, getting noticed and signing with a RESPECTABLE company. Not signing with a company that throws thier face on every bill board across america. Do I think that every artist is a sell out? Absolutly not. But when it comes to every other comercial flashes thier face or advertises a toothbrush featuring thier music, then yes, I believe they have sold out.
And it all goes down to your not a fan. You dont know how much time they put into their music. Not saying I do, im not with them every moment of the day.
I agree. I DONT know how much time they put into thier music, and personally I dont care. This does have to do with me not being a fan, sorry I made it seem more like a fact then opinion. I just dont want to hear that they put TONS of work into thier music, without proper proof. And thier music doesnt cut it.

Again I agree. I dont think people give them a chance. They either head into the music hating it, or head into it, thinking its godly.
They think because they have a bunch of screaming psychotic fans, that all the fans are the same and that we just love them because their cute.
I dont think this about all the fans, but to most, this seems to be the case. Why else would they flash thier pretty faces and happy smiles all over the place? If more of the fans cared about the music, then they would be advertising the MUSIC. Not the faces. I think you are one of some that really care about the music, the fact that they are pretty(To girls, not me) is simply a perk, and I respect that.

Well thats where I got the assumption that half the fans out there are into them for the fact that they are a pretty face(My cousin, my cousin's friends, half the girls that surround her). I listened to thier stuff. I didnt care for it. Im a music major and to say that I pass over a band simply because they are popular or I was swayed by a bias is both an insult to my intelligence and my dignity. I love music, FOR music, not because they happen to look a certain way or act a certain way. If that was the case, I would hate KISS. Do I hate the Jonas Brothers? No. They might be perfectly fine people, they are prolly a couple really cool dudes to chill with. Do I like thier music? No. Do I hate you? Ha ha no I do not. I might not agree with you about certain things but that doesnt mean I hate you or will shoot down any of your opinions/feelings. Just want to make that straight.

Never said they didn't

I know I was just putting it out there.
And ha I have a spell check thing on my Internets tool bar I couldn't survive without it. xD

True, but they can say "Hey, this is wrong. Bye bye Disney"

But then they'd seem like total a holes.
"Hey Disney, thanks for the success, see ya !"

Yes they are

Im not saying I disagree with you on having them flashed everywhere.
But its not that bad.
They are not like Hannah Montana or HSM that they are on every single product known to man.

I did not mean to insult you.
And I definitely do not hate you.
I've enjoyed the conversation we've had.
And I agree that we disagree on this, and I do not hate you for that, I disagree with plenty of people.
Its all a matter of opinions.
:)

I depends what type of contract they've got becuase most contracts with labels mean you have to release a certain amount of releases or have worked with them for a certain amount of time before they consider terminating the contract. Alot of artists go to court over their contracts* so I don't know if Jonas Brothers would simply be able to just walk out on their contract (then I don't know what Disney's terms are with their contracts, but it being Disney I'm guessing very strict).

(*= Cradle of Filth vs Cacophonous Records being one my friend told me about that resulted in the band having to release one more release on the label before they could legally leave the label or be sued).
I'm not sure if Tori Amos left her label or if "American Doll Posse" was her last release on the contract or not so I'm not sure about that one.

Well as you can see I am a Jonas Brothers fan. I truly believe that if everyone here saw them live, they would get why their so popular. As they have said time and time again, They're just Living the Dream. There are always going to be haters out there, and that's fine.

I'll put an end to this diccusion of wether they're in for it for the right reasons.

There's no way you can claim they are. You may have that opinion, but it cannot be proved true unless you personally know them and they've told you. Merchendise is a product of the record label, not the actually band. They don't handle that stuff, which is the reason they have agents, managers, record producers, ect. KISS may have had a ton of merchendise, but they still had great music. Making money's part of the business.

And the Jonas Brothers had music before they were popular. If you've ever heard the song Mandy, it's exactly the type of music they play now, and that's when they weren't very popular. Bands like Fall Out Boy I have my own opinion. I heard them when they were still doing gigs out in Chitown. Their music was completely different. As they got more popular, their music changed. That makes me personally believe they're sell outs. No one else may share that opinion, but I think it's true. The Jonas Brother's have never changed their style of music, and this is coming from someone who hates them.

As far as liking music for music, no one can really challenge someone on that. People like different music for different things. I enjoy Hip-Hop for it's beats, rythmes, ect. I like rock for because I think the sound of an all acoustic song is awesome. Alternative and metal has a lot of great solos. Rap has some funny lyrics, along wtih comedy music.

But, going back to if they're in it for the music or not, you can't say a band is only in it for the money. DUH. They all want money. Who doesn't? The day a band turns down a contract with Jive, Disney, ect. then I'll believe they're in it for the music. There's no possible way that ANYONE can say that a Band A is in it for the music more than Band B. There's no facts to back it up.

I agree 110% with all of this, aside from the bolded. Now Im not sure of what the universal definition of a "sell-out" would be, but I feel that if a band decides to change thier sound up a bit to be different then thats cool. Now if it is just for the money, then yeah, I would have a problem with it. But like you said, there is no way to tell if they are actually doing that. Now when it comes to heavy merchandising (Im mentioning Jonas Brothers here, dont hate on me, KISS as well) or a decrease in the quality of thier stuff (Nickleback in this case, I do like them though) then I believe that is selling-out. You say that all the merch goes through the agents and managers and all that, and for the most part, thats true. But even stuff as minor as that HAS to go through the original band. You dont see dolls or toothbrushes of some big name band names like Pearl Jam or Kansas lining the local wallmart. Again I dont mean to down anybodies band here, but this is what Im seeing.

My main definition is someone who changes their music to suit a bigger percentage of fans. FOB was sort of an underground type band, and now they're more pop rock thany anything. They changed their music due to the pop scene being much more productive, financially, than the underground scene. No, I can't prove that. But, I can prove they change their music.

And most of the bands actually don't know a lot of times what products are being sold under their name. The record label owns the rights to their songs and band name, so they can do with it what they want. They don't have to have the bands permission.

But, going back to if they're in it for the music or not, you can't say a band is only in it for the money. DUH. They all want money. Who doesn't?
I agree with alot what you said except the quoted bit as there are alot of bands that are in it just for the music (EA is another good example she turned down a major label contract during her enchant era because they were trying to change her music and she didn't care for the money, Amanda Palmer is making very very little money but she is so dedicated to her music and the fans).

Also the Majority of Kiss' merchandise is down to certain members greed (as they haven't released a good solid album since about the late 70's (thats more a personal opinion though)).

How can you say the Jonas Brothers haven't changed their music since Mandy? If you listen to all three of their albums, you would notice a big change. Sure, they didn't completely change the genre, but now they've gone from really poppy to more rock. It's not "hard rock", of course, but it's definitely not as poppy as their 2nd album on their 3rd.

I wouldn't call Lovebug rockish at all, I'd call it pop.

I wouldn't call Lovebug rockish at all, I'd call it pop.
I'd call it Jack Johnson feat. Brian May for an epic guitar finish.

(Or maybe Fall Out Boy just likes playing pop rock now, as their musical tastes would have changed as they themselves matured)

And FOB's kind of more like pop hard rock, actually.
