The Jonas Brothers do NOT deserve a Grammy.

Woah woah woah. Im not a huge Johnas Brothers fan (Seriously) but to give them a Grammy even makes my blood boil. Im not saying that thier stuff isnt popular and respect those who like thier stuff, but they are doing it all for MONEY. To me that is just wrong. I know half the grammy nomonies are prolly doing it for money, but its just painfully obvious with them.

Then does that go for Coldplay as well? They did something similar but, they never took the same tune/sound. That's what the Jonas Brothers did. Bands should know that they have things they can and cannot do while writing songs. Others bands do this, too, you'd be surprised to know how many do this. (But they make it their own).

(If that doesn't make sense..I'll fix this later..).

I always get a Coldplay song confused with a Journey song.

I really can't find a similarity between the two songs, but maybe that's just me.

Yes, they deliberately went out and stole that. Get the pitchforks. Oh no something sounds slightly similar to another song now they dont deserve an award.
dude, it barely sounds the same.
The JB one is more uptempo IMO.
There are so many songs that sound similar.

And if theres any reason they 'dont deserve a Grammy' is because their nominated for Breakout Artist and they've been around since 2005.
But can you really say they dont deserve it ? They've been working their butts off for the past years. From CD's to Movies, the book, quite a few tours, etc. You can not like them, but you cant say they havent worked hard.

They've made money, so dont you think if they were doing this for the money they would stop now ?

I'll be VERY shocked if Jonas Brothers win a Grammy for Best New Artist (their only nomination, I believe). I don't think they are going to be around for a long time like some other bands because once their fan base grows up, so will their music tastes. Anyways, I don't get this stealing song thing. There are only so many chords that sound good in music. Many bands have been accused of the same thing as the Jonas Brothers and nothing happened. Honestly, I think if a band realizes they are guilty they will confess and apologize. George Harrison realized that one of his songs was the exact same as someone elses and he apologized. I truly don't think musicians are out there to lose their credibility and copy songs from other musicians.

Well there are 2 sides to this. Obviously they are in with Disney and have a contract to stick together for atleast a certain amount of time. And the other side is the money. Ill ask you something, If you were making gobs of money just for singing and playing an instrument for thousands of fans, would you stop? I dunno, maybe Im wrong but this is the feeling Im getting from them. Again, I have no gripe against thier fans or thier music (Im personally not a fan of it), it's just being a "Disney" band, just screams money. They are here to make money off of the huge amount of young girls that are flocking to thier music (Again, if like them, more power to ya) and are no more than a couple of pretty faces.

1) I cant see the similarity. I've listened to it's time to dance a bajillion times.

2) I think they could possibly win. They have alot of dedicated fans. :)
It would please them no matter how much some people hate them

I don't like them.
I don't think they should get a grammy (but that's just because I don't like them.)
They are just the newest teen boy band, and in a few years nobody will care about them (kinda like n*sync)

But I dont think that they stole that song

See the resemblance? Plagiarism does NOT deserve a Grammy.
Plagiarism is very big in pop music (an example being the four-bar thing in "Frozen by Madonna). Also you can look at quite a few songs and see similiarities (either because they use the same chords or what-not).

I don't think The Jonas Brothers deserve a grammy either, I don't think many (if any) modern artists do as no one is writing original music anymore its more down to what the label wants :confused3. (then I have a strong dislike of how modern music labels are selling musicians with little musical talent while the ones with good are kept back to little fanbases, so I'm being somewhat biased I guess).

They don't deserve best NEW artist. They've been around longer than several others in the category.

I deffiently hear the similarity...But maybe thats becasue i'm a panic fan...

There's no stolen melody at all.
The Jonas Brothers song uses a repeating chugging guitar riff, while the Panic at the Disco song uses a repeating synth line. The only similarity is that the lines repeat themselves...

There is barely any musical similarity.

ITA with what you've just said 100%

Now, while I do not see any real musical similarity between "Tonight" and "Time To Dance", I too highly doubt that the Jonas Brothers could win a "Best New Artist" Grammy.

I personally have very little respect for the Grammys or any other award show, for that matter. They're all always stacked, and used only to generate hype. Awards don't actually mean anything.

But as for the Jonas Brothers, no, they won't win "Best New Artist".

Why?

Because they aren't new.

They have 3 albums, all 3 of which were on major record labels.

They aren't new...
But then again, when one looks at the other contestants for the BNA Grammy...
The Jonas Brothers just might win.

Maybe the Grammy Society or whatever was just desperate for a name to fill the slot, and chose the Jonases.

I really could care less if they stole their material, but there are just so many better bands out there that should win. And they probably won't because it's always some no talent new fad that comes out of Disney to blow little kids away.

Better "new" bands?
I actually can't think of any new artists that made it big this year who are better than the Jonas Brothers.

I hate to say this but I don't agree that they sound the same :S, neither does my mate and she does GCSE music. And tbh it is like 10 seconds of a song :S
