The joke that is Photobucket

I wanted to post some holiday photos on one of the Dis threads. I didn't know how to post them, asked for assistance and was given some great advice by fellow dis'ers.

Photobucket seemed to be the site of choice so off I go to sign up.

I didn't get any further than the first page as a message constantly came up stating my chosen name was unuseable/no good.

I'm able to follow directions and have great comprehension skills so I can't take the blame for the "problem".

I sent an inquiry to photobucket's support team, telling them what transpired.

Here is their response: "We're sorry. Based on the information you have submitted to us you are ineligible to create an account on Photobucket".

Well, no **** Sherlock. I've basically submitted NO information so that statement holds no water!

My response back: "I'm aware I'm ineligible. What I want to know is why".

Nitwittery abounds!!!!!!

Now, back to the show!

Try snapfish. That is what I use.

I can't see photobuckte photos at work either so if more would use somethign else I would be able to see more pictures. :)

and you kept trying different usernames?

Are you saying you can't find a clear username? Photobucket is big...you have to keep trying till you find something not in use.

Thanks!

I found google has what seems to be a great photo site but I've yet to try and sign on.

If that fails, I will try snapfish.

All this unnecessary stress just because I love Christmas and want to post a few photos! Ho Ho Ho :santa:

It just sounds like the user name you wanted to use was already in use. Photobucket is used by lots of people, I know I had to use a really long user name to be able to sign up. Once I did that, it was easy.

Hmmm I've used Photobucket for years with no issue. :confused3

Not all sites will let you hotlink their photos, either. Are you trying to post photos on message boards, or just share them with others in albums?

Edit: Ok, I just went and re-read your initial post.

You want to post photos on the DIS. Well there are very few photo-sharing sites that will allow this. Photobucket is the best at hot-linking images onto message boards. All you have to do is click on IMG CODE next to the picture and paste here.

If you aren't able to use your user name, it's because it's already used. Only one name per customer, just like most every other website.

Yes, over and over.

The message did not state the name(s) were already in use, it stated there was a problem with my choices(something to that nature).

I was using names that in no way anyone else could possibly be using. They were above board so lewdness wasn't the problem.

Do you use Firefox or Explorer?

Try using the one you don't typically use to start up your account.

I've never posted photos online until this week! I posted three photos on my facebook page(having help), two are of my dining room Christmas tree and the third is of one of my cats.

I wanted to post them here, on the "Holiday decoration" thread. Having never posted on the Dis I asked for help in doing so.

Maybe my issue with privacy is sending me a red flag. :confused3

i'm a photographer, have posted countless images of my own kid and others (with permission and no names) and have had no issues. *knock on wood*

i say, start fresh... reboot your computer, go back to photobucket, and try to sign up again. it really will be your easiest option for doing what you want here on the DIS.

I just tried to open up a new account and was having no issue. It gives you options on usernames. Pick one of those, enter in a password and continue. Let's see how that goes.

I also have a bazillion photos and pieces of artwork on Photobucket, and have never had a problem with it at all, other than when I, in my OWN dimwittedness, forgot my password. It was heartening to me to see how secure their password retrieval process is!

I hope you get it figured out and are able to use it; it really has been a HUGE help to me for years!

I think it would be in my best interest to wait until my DF gets home and looks things over with me.

He's a computer engineer and will let me know if one program is better than another and why.

I'll also show him what happened on Photobucket so I can hear his take on the matter.

Snapfish will delete your photos if you don't place an order within a year. I just received an email about an album I placed there 1 yr ago. They gave me a coupon for 30 free prints, so I uploaded some pictures and placed an order for those to keep my pics online.

If you aren't planning on buying anything, then snapfish is just going to delete your pictures in a year.

Someone else has the nick name your picked, try adding a number or another name.

I am surprised. I have been using photobucket for several years and  it for posting to message boards, etc.

How do I make that "wrong answer" buzzing noise, in type? heheheheee

Possibly you meant to say photobucket is the best free site...

I use www.smugmug.com . but it is not free. I can easily choose from many sizes to post. I click "get a link" on any of my photos and am sent to a screen that looks like this:
716556068_RNK3u-L.jpg

now you choose the best size. Maybe medium for dialup, tiny for a signature pic, or even original full file size, if you want to.

you can use this code (anyone can use this code) for a $5 discount on a one year plan. EDfLfDAAygNVM

Oh, and their tech support, is outstanding.

I just joined Smugmug as well after trying it for a couple of weeks. Like JR said, it's not free, but easy to use and works well with other sites.
