The Indiana Jones ride?

I have two boys who will be 5 and 6 years when we go to Disney (4yrs and 5 yrs now). One measures 46" with shoes on and the other 46 1/2" with shoes on, right now. They have eight months to grow before Disney trip. I am wondering if the Indiana Jones ride will be to rough on their body at this age and maybe too intense. They are on the tall side for their age group, but still young. What do you think? They say they want to ride it, they saw the ride on a video.

It kind of depends on how they handle scary stuff. It was pretty intense, really. I detest "scary" rides, but I really thought it was fun. But the special effects are done very well, and look pretty real. Honestly, it would scare the bejeebers out of my 8 and 5 year olds. Depending on the child, I think I view it as a 12 and up.

It is also very jerky, and has a couple of places where you feel that bottom drop out of your stomach feeling, but not for very long.

I agree it really depends on what may scare your kids. My son rode it at age 5. He begged to ride and he fit the heigh requirements I took him on it. He said he liked it, but wasn't thrilled about doing it again so he only rode it that once. We're going back in a month and he's VERY excited to ride it again. Just depends on the kid, you know your kids best.

My youngest who is now 14 had and has a vivid imagination and could not bring himself to ride Indy when he was 7. He did ride when he was 8. Depends on the kid. The queue is very well themed and scary for kids, and I would let that be your guide. If they are scared by the queue then save it for next time.

I agree...totally depends on the child. If they've seen the videos and say they want to try it, then I say go for it! Keep in mind, they may change their minds once you get there...but that's the way it goes, right!

My DS was SO disappointed on our last visit because he wasn't quite tall enough. My child LOVES Space Mtn, Big Thunder and mainly anything that goes fast...he's an adreneline junkie, and only 5 years old.

So I just know that on our upcoming visit he will want to ride Indiana Jones and thankfully, he's tall enough now!

We all say let the kid be the guide...just ignore me when you see my son and I in line for the Matterhorn while he's begging and pleading me not to take him on it....even with full crocodile tears. All followed by tears when it's time to get off of the thing. It's kinda funny though....I've lost track on how many times he had ridden but the phoney act in the beginning is almost so real you'd think he was terrified. Goofball!

When our son was 4, all he could talk about was wanting to be 46 inches tall so he could ride that ride. He was bummed to be too short. When he was tall enough (age 5), we went to Disneyland and he decided he didn't want to go on it -- too scary. We just went back again (he's 6) and he still didn't want to go on it.

DS hasn't been on it, but he says he really really really wants to. We just haven't been there at a time when he's been tall enough.

However, I think the line is going to really mess with his head. It's dark, it's shadowy, and it can be long. So he might not even get to the ride, because the line is going to psych him out.

We went to Disneyland when my youngest was 5 it was our first time there. We went on Indiana as our second ride. My 5 year old didn't cry on the ride, but when we got off he was quiet and said he didn't want to ride it again I thought we had just ruined our whole trip. He has some anxiety and I thought there was no way he was going to go on anything else. We went around Tarzans tree house and left for the night. The next morning on our way to the park, he asks if he can ride Indiana first we say sure, and this time when he came off he said he loved it and he rode everything at both parks for our entire stay. His favorite ride of all is California Screaming. So I would show him the youtube video and if he wants to, go for it. Even if he gets off the ride not so sure about it, you never know what the next day will bring.

Our DD11 was 6 our first trip, she rode Indy, wasn't scared by it at all. She also rode ToT and loved it. She's a big thrill ride kid and loves them all. That said, she had seen all the Indy movies and was a big fan. I think it depends on each kid and no, she didn't feel she'd been thrown around too much.

When my grandson was 4 we took him to WDW and he wanted to ride Dinosaur at AK. He fit the height requirement so off we went. He was petrified by the time we got off. Although he rode other rides during our visit to WDW, we never again attempted a Thrill ride with him. In December last year I took him to Disneylandand. He is 6 now. Since both Dinosaur & IJ have the same type of ride vehicle and realistic effects, I wasn't sure how he would do on this ride. I figured one look at the ride vehicle and he would head for the chicken exit. This was the second ride we did in the park (POTC was 1st). When we passed it on the way to POTC he asked to ride Indy next. He loved it. His first words getting off the ride - "That was awesome"!!! The little boy who was sitting behind me was 6 and he was crying when he got off the ride. It just depends on the kid. I was shocked at how fearless my grandson was at 6. He was on all the Thrill Rides and when we left he said his favorite was Tower of Terror or maybe Space Mountain or it could be Screamin. He loved them all!!!

my son is so little he couldnt ride it when we went last that was almsot 3 years ago he was an inch to small now... he is praying he can ride it I think he can finely but it sucks he wanted to at 5 an couldnt. now 9 he will be able to

The Indy ride is a bit rougher than the Dinosaur ride at WDW - but my kids loved it (granted, they are older...). I don't think it is as scary though. You have time to decide, but it does bounce you around.

That being said, my DS 19 enjoyed DLR so much more than WDW. He loved the Indy ride, Space Mountain was better, Matterhorn and we saw Captain EO before it was at WDW. DS15 was disappointed in the Monorail.

We are going out to San Diego for Spring Break and I'm trying to talk DH and DS 15 for a day at CA! I need my Disney fix!!!

I would have to agree it depends on the child. My ds was 9 on his first real trip and he didn't bat an eye at any ride, but when my niece was 13 she buried her head and held on for dear life on Indiana Jones. At 16 she managed one roller coaster at another park before wanting to leave.

Thank you all for the replies! They were very helpful. I was worried, if I let my kids on the ride that it may be so rough that they may get injured, since they would be close to the 46"minimum requirement and they are young. Glad to hear other young kids have ridden it just fine.
This is our first time going and this is a big trip for us, we live in North Idaho. I will have them watch some youtube videos of the ride before the trip.

WannaseePooh- Thanks for telling me the story about your little one riding the ride. It was nice to hear that even though your son was freaked after the ride, he didn't let it ruin his trip at Disney. I hope my boys will be just as tough, if they get scared.

My ds6 (Just turned six 15 days ago) LOVED Indie when he went on it a couple of days ago. Though, he went on TOT at 3 1/2 and wasn't scared, so he may just be weird like that!

I rode it when i was 6! i wasnt really afraid of it.. i just have been told that after riding it that trip i didnt want to go back on again. i hated the way it jerked you around. now i am ok with it .. but at the same time can see why i wasnt so thrilled about it when i was younger. Then again.. i have a friend who rode it when she was 7ish and just loved it! it depends on who it is.. if you arent scared by it .. then it's just a matter of the way it jerks you around.. and if that's ok too.. then ta da!
