The, "I'll pose for pics & sign autographs" B-day tour! WEEERE BAAACK!!!!

Hi Dawn,

My thoughts go out to you and your family. I know this must be a difficult time for you.

This summer I went through something similiar with my mother. She had an infection in her back and it took multiple surgeries to get it out. To close up where they went in they had to do a skin graft from her leg. This time was an emotional rollacoaster. I can't even imagine what it must feel like when it is one of your own children.

All I want to say is hang in there because better days are ahead. The next couple of weeks are going to be very rough on you and Baylor. In the end he will recover and bouceback. He is a kid and can be tougher than you think. Two last pieces of advice would be to make sure he takes them up on the pain meds. The donor site is probably going to end up hurting more than the burns. Second, make sure he does the rehab and exercises!

Best wishes!
Ken
Thank you so much for the advice...he is worried about the donor site - the nurses and docs are preparing him for the fact this will be more painfull - he is very worried but maybe it will be less than his fears so he will not think it is so bad...

Talked with DVC today - need to cancel this trip by Dec 3rd and then be able to re-book for Jan before the points go away by Feb 1st...:sad2:

PLease pray that we can go as planned...we will all need this more than ever...

...I just spoke with his nurse - surgery just was moved up....

be back later..

I am so sorry to hear about the bad turn. I hope that the progress and healing is more rapid in the coming days.

thank you for the kind words...

 to all of you. I think it's a good sign that Baylor realizes how fortunate he is. The next year will be hard but you all are strong!

Thanks - surgery went well - waiting for him to get up here now - anxious to see him...love that little man more than the world...

I'm so glad the surgery went well. :goodvibes If you think he'd like a happy from Disney, I'd be glad to send something.

angela - that would be awesome - he would love a post card or anything -
I'll pm you the address...:)

Just a quick update for everyone -
Baylor and I are watching movies and he is resting somewhat...they will be watching for infections pretty seriously...they want to make sure that nothing compromiss the site at all...

His donor site is quite large - from the top of his hip to his knee...both on the side and wrapping to the back of his leg...it is so painfull looking...he also says it is beyond sore...sobbed when they had to change his sheets because it was draining and he needed to get it out from under him...

He screamed and cried like I have never actually heard someone before...hopefully it will ease with each day -

Thanks again to everyone for all your well wishes...this extended Disney Family is pretty special isn't it...we are lucky...and we are blessed...even in the midst of all this...:grouphug:

OH MY GOSH, Dizzy!

Prayers said/ love sent!!!!

Dizzy...love you mama!!!

So today is Saturday and the first day after surgery for Baylor...the head doc at the burn center came and said his graft site looks awesome...the only issue is getting the donor site healed so the pain stops...they had to go around his leg so much it is on the back side of it and resting fully on his back is impossible.

I am hoping the vacation is as planned...but right now my priority is Baylor 100% and I know the vacation will happen as it needs to...when it needs to...

If Baylor is able to go to Florida in Dec...we will need to talk to Disney about geting a GAC (guest assistance card) or something to get help Baylor not stand in the lines a long time...

The docs are saying he will not be able to stand still or be up on his feet a long time in a row...we will have a wheelchair for him as well...
Not sure who we should talk to about it...any advice? What do I need from his doctor - although he will be bandaged and wearing compression coverings anyway...but he may want to wear jeans to not have that much attention on him...so it may not be obvious...

ugh...:headache:

From Goofyluver. Her son uses one too.

No. You don't need any documentation whatsoever.

When you go in to Guest Services, ask for a GAC. They will ask you what your needs are...Jon's are similar to your kiddlet's needs. I always tell them Jon has difficulty with crowds and crowd noises, that he has muscular needs which causes him to fatigue quickly, and that he has orthopedic needs which cause pain when walking and standing for long periods of time.

They hand it right over.

It's an honor system right now.

I hope people don't abuse the system and change that.

Hey thanks for that info...really appreciate it - let's oplan on talking this week sometime...life is finally slowing down a bit

Update on Baylor...

Leg staples coming out tom. with anestisia (sp??UGH) so we will know more then when he can come home :woohoo: and how he will be doing in weeks to come...

That's great news! :goodvibes He might want to check the mail in a few days. ;)

hey...that will be awesome! :thumbsup2

He was in a great mood today when I got to the hospital...his Dad stayed with him last night and when he saw me he smiled  and told me he had gone to the bathroom on his crutches and was mobile...with pain but moving...he is seeing Gilette's Childrens Hospital physical therapy today at 2pm so that will determine if he can go home today or not. You can have no idea how much I look forward to that. Today was the first genuine smile I have seen on him since the accident. It melted me into a puddle...but the nurse was there so no PDA's allowed...:rolleyes1

Busy day today also finalizing many trip plans...cutting costs where we can and making sure of parade times and our ressies...will update that....

A big funny yesterday...I found where you can order those customised maps on the website for the parks...was all excited to order them and have Bqylor help decide where we wanted to go...thought he would like some trip planning power...:cool1:

Not so much..:confused3

His exact words were...

"This is stupid...you know where everything is...it's not a suprise or like you won't be able to find it...this is as usefull as getting a map of your own house..." :cool2:

I was laughing my hind end off...and shocked...he is totally right...and I guess not an obsessive Disney Freak Planning God in the making at all...:sad2:

Oh my gosh, Dawn!!
I'm so sorry for your son! I'm glad he is doing better. You are in my prayers!
