As far as weather goes, this week in orlando has been rather chilly. As far as I've heard, the high for the next week won't be much above 70. It's been high 60's during the day, 40's at night. This morning (before the sun rose, ugh) when I left for work, it was SO COLD.. there were wind chills in the low 30's! Now, being from NY that's nothing in context, but down here MAN is it chilly. There were people at MK last night in tanks and shorts.. it was 45*!!! I seriously couldn't believe it.
As for "what I wish I knew when I was 18," my 18 wasn't TOO long ago, but I do have a few things I wish I had known.
1. Take advantage of opportunities that present themselves. You'll probably NEVER have that chance to study in Spain or Italy for a semester again, even if it means graduating a semester later than you planned.
2a. Don't be afraid to change your major, but if you think you want to, think about it long and hard and do it ASAP if you decide that's what is right for you.
2b. Don't be afraid to change colleges if you don't like the one you're at. Not every college is a good fit for everyone, but be careful not to jump ship to early in the game. Always try to finish out the year, or at least the semester or getting your credits back together can be a nightmare.
3. Don't concentrate TOO much on relationships just yet, and don't get too serious too fast. You're young, and being attached to a significant other can seriously impact your decision making in ways you never thought it would.
4. Don't sign up for 8am classes if you know you're not a morning person. If you must go to early classes, resist the urge to go out the night before or even stay up too late if you can help it. You'll regret it in the morning, and you can always have fun another night that week.
5. Really listen to advice you recieve from parents, relatives and other mentors. You don't always have to take it, but chances are, they've been there before and they actually DO know what they're talking about.
6. Take a mental health day once in a while. When you're feeling overwhelmed with school work, sports, activities, family, whatever, take some time away. Take yourself out of reality for a little while, and go see a movie, or just wander aimlessly around campus. It does WONDERS.
7. Don't be afraid to jump. Take chances.. if they don't work out, it's not the end of the world. (This, however, does not include actually jumping off anything high that a "friend of a friend's cousin" set up with some stuff he got on clearance at home depot.)
