The ignorance continues...

Daisy is SO cute, Esmeralda!! I can definitely see the PB in her - I love their big heads!!

Re your family's dog allowing roughhousing, I read that they're actually good dogs to have around rambunctious kids, because they have a relatively high pain tolerance. So they're less likely to flip out if Little Susie accidentally pulls on an ear or some such.

This is so true. They are awesome with kids. My neices have grown up around dogs, and the pitbulls are the only breed that they have not had incidents with. Their old beagle was awful. She used to nip them all the time. They eventually could not let the kids near the beagle. The beagle finally died of old age. She was pretty old when DN12 was little anyway. They have had Nika, the pitbull for several years. And she has seriously been the best dog for these kids. :)

They're actually very good with rambunctious dogs too. The ones Monty played with this past weekend at Petsmart were awesome with him. The pups played with him as puppies will, and the 4 year old female just let him jump on her and only once in a while batted him away with her paw. It was funny. She reminded me of a mother dog with a litter of rambunctious puppies.

I'm not trying to debate you. But take a look at Daisy and think about how unhappy her life will be because of this law before you go judging all based upon the actions of a few.

She is sure is a cutie pie (I think all dogs are cute no matter how ugly others might think they are!) and I can sympathize with you but I still think it's very important to do something to stop all the pit bull attacks/deaths and that is the most important thing to me.

I'm all for any rules/laws to keep our kids and pets safe from these dogs that maul them at a high percentage.

ITA

am a animal lover myself, and have been around a few pit bulls. all three have "acted up" but have not hurt anyone yet. and one especially was so gentle that I let my kids around him. well.... he got "confiscated by the police" for being violent or something like that and lucky didn't attack anyone. He was so sweet.... I do think it is the breed and it is in there nature to act up at times and be sweet and gentle animals at others. I think if it potentially protects people and animals then it should be done. The pit bull has a well founded rep for being a vicious dog. the lovable dogie you have may not have hurt anyone but it is in their system and doesn't "have to be tought" . I would rather be safe then sorry in that nature.

oh around here there is at least one city that has out lawd pit bulls all together.

I agree with you there to. Where we differ is in how we want to go about stopping the deaths. I think punishing the owners of the offending dogs is the way to go. Maybe even make them be put on a list somewhere so that they can never own a dog again.

These people, the ones who train pitbulls to kill or mistreat them to the point that they are nasty and roaming around off a leash - they are the people who don't listen to laws anway.

Belive me, I get mad too, when I hear about dog maulings...from any breed.

You ought to have to pass a test to get a pet.
