The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

The fall leaves were so beautiful that I decided to go out in the yard take pictures. It doesn't really do them justice, but here they are...

Front yard, to give you an idea how tall the trees are, the bird feeder is almost 5' off the ground.

A beautiful vine maple tree. I love this tree, it is so pretty in all seasons. To the right of the tree is a huckleberry bush that is growing on a stump.

Last but not least, the hill behind the house. We cut the other trees from around this old oak tree. In a few years it will branch out down lower (it's already starting to) and become really full and beautiful.

Pretty trees, Sam. :lovestruc

Our previous (first) home had a very "native Washington"-looking yard, lots of native trees and shrubs. The yard was fairly large, lots of space for the kids and I loved it.

Our current house was previously owned by a master gardener, so a very detailed backyard, and a big variety of roses in the front. Unfortunately we are NOT master gardeners, and we had two small children, so we pulled out much of the fussy stuff (giving the more valuable stuff to neighbors that asked for them) and put in grass in the back and front. We left the native stuff that wasn't going to get disease-riddled if we didn't treat it with kid gloves. ;)

Hi Alex! Glad you liked the pumpkin. DH always does a great job on the pumpkins. I on the other carve pumpkins that probably look like a 5yo did them.

Hello Hyenas!

How was your day? Alison that is a cool pumpkin and ghost :cutie:

Hi Pix. DH carved the pumpkin. I've had the ghost for about 20 years. My MIL used to do some woodworking, she carved the face out of wood and painted it and the bottom part is just strips of an old sheet. She cut the sheet into strips and then put them thru drilled holes. I'll have to take a picture of the bats she made me also. They are on the other side of the porch. They are wood bats that hang on fishing line so they look like they are sort of swooping around in the wind.

Had a pretty good day. Cleaned out my closet and did some rearranging. Have about 6 bags of clothing to take to the Goodwill. Just kind of a stay at home and get some things done sort of day.

The pumpkin is awesome. :thumbsup2 Wow, that's neat that your MIL made the ghost. Very creative. :)

Good morning, hyenas!
SUN! Four days in a row of SUN! I can't believe it!!! :yay: :woohoo:

Staley, I somehow missed your response on your dream yesterday. It popped up in my email, so I had to go find it and respond. :)

Awwww! That made me tear up, it's so sweet!

There are so many sweet components to it that I can see would be comforting to you. First, the babies are both good sized and (presumably) healthy! Girls, how sweet. (Do you have a feeling they're girls? I presumed from the Wrestlemania going on at the last ultrasound that they're both rowdy boys! :lmao: )

Your dad is there, of course, which is something I know you wish, and regret he won't know these babies. He's doing something perfectly ordinary, like he's totally relaxed and just doin' fine, you know? And your parents are together. This is like the "perfect world" scenario for these babies to come into the world. :goodvibes

As you probably already know, dreams are a way for your brain to think about and work through things that have been on your mind awhile. Here's what I get out of it, without putting a spiritual spin on it:
1. You are looking forward to the birth of two healthy babies
2. Maybe you suspect they are going to be girls, not boys or one of each
3. You've been thinking about your dad, wishing he could see these beautiful babes, just like he was there for the others
4. Since your dad isn't going to be there IRL, you see him in the dream, which would be very comforting.

The spiritual spin, I think, would be that your dad is with you, and will be with you on the day these babes arrive, and he'll be so happy to welcome two new little ones into the family. :goodvibes

What a beautiful dream! Did you feel really relaxed when you woke up?
Oy... Sorry.. now Im bawling. :sad2: Im such a geek. :rotfl: I woke up crying. Because it IS just how I would want everything to be. Well.. Except the girls. :lmao: I am kind of hoping for boys.. Not that it matters all that much, as long as they are healthy, you know? But I keep having these feelings, that because I want it to be boys.. they will be girls. Cause thats just how my life goes, you know?:lmao:

I am a dirty, dirty person. I just bribed my husband into giving me his last chocolate bar. ;) :lmao: :lmao: But DANG.. It was a GOOD chocolate bar. :rotfl2:

I just bought these pony tail holders from the website. It's too cute! :goodvibes

That's adorable Pix. I wish I would have had a little girl that dressed like that. DD had definite ideas about what she wanted to wear, from a very early age, like 2! And none of it involved anything that I considered girly or cute.:lmao:

My MIL is very creative, she used to do all sorts of artsy craftsy stuff...woodworking, painting, quilting, etc...but now she has MS and has a hard time doing any of it.

Dang it, when did you all show up??? :lmao:

Yeah, DH usually does the carving in our house, too. The boys each insist on getting their own pumpkin now. Three years ago I got them these PotatoHead pieces (for pumpkins) so no carving was necessary. The next year DS8 insisting on carving, so only DS4 had the uncarved one. Last year they both insisted on carved... so with four pumpkins, poor DH got quite a workout!

I have bad luck with knives, either cutting an unintended gash in the pumpkin... or in myself. :rolleyes1

DH gets very nervous around this time of year. This year will be even more interesting, since DS8's class is having a pumpkin carving at their class party, and parents come in bearing sharp carving utensils and help out. And I intend to go. DH doesn't want me to go. :rotfl2:

I felt the same way when I was pregnant with DS8. I wanted a boy, but I was sure DS was going to be a girl; DH wanted a girl, but was sure it would be a boy. I had 12 weeks to get used to the idea of a girl, how fun getting cute little dresses and tights and socks and shoes and hair ribbons would be, having little tea parties, taking her to the Nutcracker ballet...

Then we found out it was a boy after all. I cried happy tears, and sad tears. :rotfl:
