The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

Well, since no one is here and I think I'm coming down with something (scratchy throat and a bit of a headache today), I will head to bed a bit early this evening.

Good night, hyenas! :cloud9:

Wish me luck. Jake has been up all night with diarrhea. :scared1: Nice 5 1/2 plane ride ahead of us.

Good morning, hyenas!
It's... raining. :sad1:
But I shouldn't feel too bad, we squeezed out a few more sunny days through September, after our 6-weeks of summer ended in early August. ;)
Now it's back to the typical doom and gloom heading into winter in Seattle.

I woke with a scratchy, swollen throat, not too bad though. DS8 was up and dressed early for school, it was so weird! But it's picture day, so I got his clothes out last night. Not sure if he was just SO EAGER for pictures or what. :rotfl:

DS4 slept in and I think is a tad under the weather himself. He coughed a bit and had the sniffles, but was as bouncy as ever.

So we got off to school at a decent time. DH had said it's supposed to rain tonight, so I grabbed DS4's yellow raincoat. I advised DS8 to grab his, too, but he didn't want to. I asked him what he'd do if it rains during recess, and he said in a very manly fashion, "I'll just deal with it" and shrugged his shoulders. He was wearing his Nightmare Before Christmas sweatshirt and didn't want to switch to his raincoat; I thought, "Well, he's 8yo, big enough to make the decision for himself" and let it go.

Naturally it started to rain right after I dropped them both off at their schools and headed to Starbucks... :confused3

Oh dear. Poor Jake. I hope he's feeling better. :flower3:

What is it with kids and airplanes? There always seems to be something! When DS8 was 2yo we took him on his first vacation flight, headed to Maui. As we were dropped off at the airport, he tripped getting out of the car and split his lower lip open on the curb. He bled all over himself and his (pastel colored) bear and his Daddy, we looked like we'd been in some horrible accident!

With DS4's first flight (also at age 2, on the way to Disneyland), we got hung up by airport security because of his name (or something similar) appearing on the "no fly" list. Once we got that straightened out and made it to the terminal, he threw up all over himself and the stroller straps.

And on the next flight (and dealing with security), he threw up again, and we figured it was (again) just excitement over the trip. Not! He was ill, and threw up several times on the plane and even as we disembarked. Good grief, that was awful! And my DH is a rock, thank goodness, because I was totally stressing out. :rotfl:

Here's hoping the rest of Shawna's vacation goes perfectly, and she returns with tons of fun stories to tell! :)

I'm going to head out to the local Hallmark store. I need birthday cards for my niece and nephew, as well as a wedding card for my aunt! She and her long-time boyfriend decided to get married when my parents were out visiting last week, so I wanted to get them something... though I don't know what beyond the card. My usual gift for her is a phone card, because she's a real talker, and none of her kids live close-by. :rotfl:

But I kinda wanted to get something different. I don't know what, though. They already have so much stuff, and not enough room. They have been living together for years... Which is why I lean toward the gift card. If anyone has a brilliant idea, please let me know! :)

I miss my grandma, she was so much fun. When I was little we used to go to the coffee shop at Kmart and sit around all day (her drinking coffee and me drinking icee's) waiting for blue light specials.
My mom and grandma would do that. I remember running to the other end of the store because there was a blue light special on ladies bras-- my mom was in her element that time.

Speaking of Kmart-- Now until October 5th, they are all doubling coupons. Up to and including $2 value, I have my good coupons pulled and ready to go. :yay:
The tip I've read on a few deal boards is just use the $x/1 type, don't bother with $x/2 or higher because the computer messes up and only will double part of the coupon to cover one product.
Let's say you have a $1/2 for a product that costs $1.69 each, buy the two products, apply the coupon.. It will only double to $1.69 total, possibly because the registers are not allowing overage. Making for not quite of a good deal as it would be if it doubled as $2.

I plan to get lots of free shampoo, deodorant, medications, cleaners and a few grocery items. Too bad my cat is picky or I cold get cheap kitty food/ litter too. From what I have read people are buying $100 of merchandise and walking out paying just $13 after coupons (and tax)
ohh and htere is a $5 off $50 coupon if you sign up on Kmart.com for their email. Hand that over first before the regualr coupons.

Seriously, my mom is like: "What are you going to do if I act like that?" and I jokingly said: "Stick you in a senior home!"

Hubby and I always joke that we better treat the kids nice, or they will put us in the "bad" home in our old age. EEEEEEEEEEEK!

Well let's see, I take a match, a bit of diesel & oil to get the fire started, add a few thousand pounds of tree branches and poof up in flames it goes!

You should start the fire with a little pizzazz. Use a roman candle, firing it stright into the burn pile (heavily doused in gas). POOF!
That's how we started the burn pile at MIL's house, being drunk at the time is optional.

Just tell you mom to be nice to you, after all you are the one that will be picking her nursing home!
Fifty Cents! Pix, by the time you have grandkids inflation will have it up to $50

;) YEP and YEP :lmao:

Hello Hyenas,

Tomorrow is MHT! Woohoo! :yay: :yay:

New luxurious towels? :cloud9:

Hmmm... my cold might be a little more than I anticipated. I've moved on to the nose-blowing, coughing stage, but I think I might have a bit of a fever, too. Pooh.

Boys are home and giggling like maniacs making silly noises and faces at each other. Ah well, at least they entertain themselves, I guess.

Think I'll go look for some meds and a tall, cold glass of water. Carry on...

Hey! Where'd you come from??? :rotfl:

How old is your mom? My aunt is around 72, and I just have no idea what to do. What kind of thing would your mom appreciate? I called my mom while DS4 and I were at the grocery store, theorizing that since she just visited my aunt, she'd have an idea of what she could use/would appreciate, or even just what kind of stores are nearby. She said they are crammed pretty tight in their little home and don't really need anything. When I mentioned the phone card, she said they use cell phones for their long distance calling now... She suggested either sending money or a GC for a grocery store. But I don't even know what grocery stores there might be there. :lmao:

What?? It's almost 8pm and nobody is stirring, not even a hyena.

Perhaps you could Google the name of the city they live in and find the grocery stores in the area. Or how about a restaurant gift certificate? Or if they are more stay at home type of people maybe a gift certificate to a local movie store and pizza. Of course maybe at age 72 a Medi-Gap policy from AARP would be appreciated!:lmao:

What the???? Hang on just a minute I need to go search. Have you installed a hidden camera in my house? Everytime I get on here in the evening you are about 1 minute behind me.

What's up Buttercup?:hippie: :flower3:

The following message is brought to Alex as a Public Service Announcement...Fred Meyer has organic valencia oranges for 88 cents a pound this week. They are very ugly oranges, but they are awesome juicy!

I was floating on and off of here for a while..laundry, pressing a few outfits..etc..
