I have not read the books, but stumbled across the first movie about the time the second one was released. At first I wasn't to sure about this story, but now, I'm completely hooked and adore Jennifer Lawrence. Oh my goodness I'm dying to know how this all ends.

Have you seen Mockingjay? What did you think? Have you read the books? If you have read the books, and seen the movies, how to feel about the movies? Should I go back and read the books?

I always advocate for reading the books! I enjoyed reading the series and then seeing the movies, I think they are doing a good job bringing the story to the screen. The costuming has been fabulous and I just love the weird Capitol decadence.

We saw Mockingjay last night and it is dark and intense and left us disturbed. But we expected that having read the books. I'm going to re-read Mockingjay again just because I can't live with the last scene in my head for a year!!!

I've seen all the movies, not read they books.
I enjoy the movies, but they aren't on my top list.

Everyone else in the family has read the books and thought the movie dragged in some spots, but so did the book ;)
They think it is following pretty well.

I've read all the books and I love all the movies. Mockingjay was so good. You should see it. I don't think you have to read the books to enjoy the movies. I would still recommend reading them just because they are so good but you don't have to in order to enjoy the movies. When the heck is Mockingjay 2 coming? I heard they already filmed it at the same time as 1. It's not fair making us wait.

I have read all the books and I was just advocating to my mom to read them (she hasn't seen any of the movies yet).

Books are always rich in detail that a movie can't convey because of time or screen limitations, etc. The movies are wonderful, but the books are why the movies were made!

Mockingjay is amazing and you should see it. It is dark, but the subject matter requires that. You may find you can't wait a year for the ending, because it is left with a cliff hanger. In that case, a great excuse to read the books!

The release date for part 2 is November 20, 2015.

I think the movie is an improvement over the book in this case. Same with Catching Fire. However, I think Catching Fire was a mediocre book and Mockingjay actually rather poor, so it would not take much for a movie to exceed them. I think the sequels in this case were rushed and not as well thought out as the first book in the series. I think the director of Mockingjay Part 1 wussed out and that they should have ended this portion of the movie right when {SPOILER} Katniss meats up with Peeta. THAT would have been a cliffhanger worth bringing people back into the theater for Part II. I think it was an excellent idea to replace Katniss' 13 prep team with Effie. I will miss Plutarch Heavensbee in the next movie, he is one of my favorite characters.

Have not read the books or seen Mockingjay yet.

I did not watch "Hunger Games" UNTIL I saw Jennifer Lawrence in "Silver Linings Playbook". I feel in love with her then and then I had to watch the "Hunger Games".

Since then of course I realized she was Mystic in the XMEN prequel.

I know she is in "American Hustle" (I think) and I have not watched that yet.

She is very good as an Actress.

If you have a Kindle and want to borrow it, I have the entire trilogy. Just PM me your email address and I can loan it to you for up to 2 weeks.

I think everyone thought they would do that. I saw a couple people stand up and sit back down again when the screen went black.

Hi there, ok first my DS and I have read the trilogy and own the first 2 movies on DVD. We have not seen Mockingjay yet and my son would not be happy to know that I am asking this. But I have to know more about the ending. {spoiler from the book} Did the movie end with Peeta telling them they are going to die? Or had they gotten him back already and haven't had the " you're a mutt!" Freak out scene. And did I read this right did they kill Plutarch off in the movie? I hope not because he was one of my favorites too.

Peeta does get to 13. He does have his freakout scene with Katniss. The movie goes a little bit beyond that.

No, they didn't kill of Plutarch...yet. However, it remains to be seen what they do with him given that Phillip Seymour Hoffman is now dead. If they replace him, I don't think it will be the same.

Got it:thumbsup2 Now I know where to stop my quick re-read recap before I go see the movie. Also, thanks for clarifying my Plutarch question. Philip will be hard to replace. He was an excellent pick for that role. Thanks again.

I just read that Hoffman was only one scene from finishing part 2 and they may digitally recreate him for it. Don't know if it is true. I hope that really is a possibility. I wouldn't want anyone else to play him.

"Unfortunately, even though Lionsgate Entertainment had combined portions of Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2‘s shooting schedules, it was later confirmed that Hoffman did not yet complete his contributions to the film series – and had one final scene to film. Therefore, it was unclear whether the studio, and director Francis Lawrence, would recast the role or simply remove the scene altogether. Now, we’re getting word that the filmmakers intend to digitally recreate the actor – to ensure that the scene, a key moment for the character, is included."

Awww, that is super sweet of you, thank you. :goodvibes Unfortunately I don't have a Kindle.

I got to go to the premiere for the new X-Men movie this summer, and Jennifer Lawrence was there. She went right to the fan section to sign autographs before she went to talk to the press (she missed one little girl during her first trip, and ran back to take a picture with her when she found out), and she was goofing around with the crowd through the whole thing. So she was really cool - as was the rest of the X-Men cast.

I liked Mockingjay, but I wish they'd done it was one movie. It felt too stretched out, and I thought it killed the momentum that Catching Fire had brought. I loved the books, so I enjoyed the movie anyway, but there was no real need to split it up.

I saw the movie tonight with DH. I read the books and agree with a pp that the last book just wasn't very good. It felt very rushed and I didn't like the ending at all. The movie wasn't bad and I'm hoping they can somehow salvage the ending and make it better than the book...

This is what I read: "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" director Francis Lawrence addressed how exactly Philip Seymour Hoffman will appear in the next installment of the film series.

Hoffman, who died in February, played Plutarch Heavensbee in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and had filmed many of his scenes for "Mockingjay" before his death. The Hunger Games Exclusive posted a conversation with Lawrence, producer Nina Jacobson and screenwriter Peter Craig: "We finished the majority of his work," said Lawrence. "I think he might have had eight to 10 days left on our schedule. In most of those scenes, Phil didn’t have any dialogue. We are going to put him into those scenes, but we’re only using real footage. We’re not creating anything digital or a robotic version of him."
Jacobson also noted that they might give a line here or there to a different character like Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) or Effie (Elizabeth Banks), "but only in circumstances that we are able to do that without undermining the intent of the scene," she said.

I couldn't agree more!

I figured after the success of Twilight, all series would want to do the same and milk that cow for every last drop.

I enjoyed the books, but there is a part of me that wishes I didn't know some of the things that will happen in the next movie!

Agreed 100%. I was trying to figure out how to say exactly what you just said.
:)

Maybe it is because we already read the books? DH saw the movies but never read the books and now is excited for part 2.

I'm okay with two movies. I like that they told the story and showed the struggle of her becoming Mockingjay. How she came to that decision and played it out on her own terms. For me - I liked the character development. If it was all one movie that would have been a blurb and too rushed.
