The day with the leaning boat, Café Mickey and our last day in the park

Our last day saw us up and about to get packed in time for our 0815 breakfast slot. It was obviously a mistake to choose a later time because the restaurant was more packed than we had seen during our whole stay. It was funny to watch the other families secretly preparing their lunches and secreting them in their bags or lunchboxes!

It was dry for a change so we decided to take a stroll into the Park. As we approached Disney Village we could see that it was going to be another busy one! On our way past the Lake DS’s Glostick was still where he dropped it on Tuesday night at the fireworks.

Once in the park we headed straight for Buzz but the wait was already 55 minutes so we collected a Fastpass which was for 1120-1150. We had to have e new plan so we asked the kids what they fancied doing next and the unanimous answer was It’s a Small World. The queue was quite big but was not boarding yet so we decided to wait. It wasn’t long before we boarded and then came the surprise. As the boat left the entrance it leaned quite heavily to the right hand side. A quick look around showed the reason why. All the men were seated on the right hand side much to the amusement of the women, and the embarrassment of us men!!

We then decided to ride Pirates of the Caribbean which was a walk on, much to our surprise. We then thought it would be great to ride Phantom Manor but the queue was too big so we steadily made our way around to Buzz. Thank goodness for Fastpass! It was great to ride Buzz for one last time. I improved on my score but I haven’t got a clue how you are supposed to get 999,999!

Having been stung yesterday with the massive queues for food we decided to eat early and eat small so that we wouldn’t ruin Cafe Mickey that we had booked for 1800. We enjoyed a Hot Dog from Caseys Diner. With Disney getting so much right it is a shame they can’t get the counter service restaurants right. The service is always incredibly slow with too few tills open and too few CM working. With only three people in front of me it still took over 20 minutes to get served.

A nice gentle ride on the Mark Twain was next on the agenda. This really is an underestimated experience. It is great to see Frontierland from a different perspective. The kids were gutted that Pocahontas Village was closed but I don’t think it has ever been open when we have been there. It is also a disappointment to see that the geyser is still not working. Is it permanently out of use now? I’m sure we saw it in operation during our first visit.

We then made the short trip to the Chaparral Theatre for the 1300 showing of Mickey’s Christmas Wonderland. We do like this show and is very, very good but it is not a patch on the Tarzan show we have seen in this theatre!

It was great timing for us to just pop across to Central Plaza for the1345 showing of Disney Showtime Spectacular celebrates Christmas. We really enjoy this show. The highlight for us is seeing Boo and the piece with The Incredibles. It is a very energetic show but can be ruined by people being inconsiderate and standing in front of the kids or even worse putting their children on their shoulders immediately in front of you. I don’t have a problem with doing that because I did it with DS at the beginning of the week but I had the courtesy to check behind me first to see if I was blocking anyone. It is always going to be the downside of a show that is presented above the audience!

We decided that it was time to give Captain EO another chance after the technical difficulties experienced earlier in the week. I think it was a good show but DWs view was that it was “No Thriller”. As I was watching I thought how sad it was that his life took the turns it did after making Captain EO. The 3D side was a bit lacking but the show as a whole with the movement of the theatre was very good.

It was now hot chocolate time once again. We went to the Cafe Hyperion which was remarkably quiet compared to yesterday. Ideal for a little quiet time to plan our next move.

With the rain still pouring down we took a slow stroll through the shops before deciding where we would watch the parade from. We decided to watch the parade from the area next to the Christmas tree near where the parade started. It had stopped raining at this point and I decided that I would video the parade and especially the Christmas part with the Elves, Soldiers and Santa. Disappointingly the soldiers were AWOL. DS was gutted. “Where’s the soldiers gone?” he kept on asking!!

Time was fast marching on so we decided to leave the park and check out the shops for the items we were going to buy after our tea. It was 1745 when we arrived at Cafe Mickey and we walked straight in. No queues. It was quiet inside but it soon picked up after 1800. The kids ordered the Mickey Pizza. DW had Princess Aurora which was baked potato with sour cream and crispy ham with a breaded turkey escalope. I ordered the Ariel’s Delight which was tagletelli pasta served with queenies and shrimps, mussels, pico de gallo and shellfish sauce. The food was served really quickly and was incredibly good. The only gripe was that it took ages to eat because of all the characters’!! (Only kidding) The kids finished off with the sweet buffet and DW had the Woody’s Campsite Chocolate. The atmosphere was amazing and the character interaction was outstanding. The kids got autographs and photos with Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale, Goofy, Pluto and Stitch. It was great because there was no pushing and shoving. The characters came to each table and took their time. It was the absolutely perfect ending to an absolutely fantastic trip.

We had a quick trip around the shops and bought everything we wanted. The only thing we couldn’t get was a bauble with 2010. I knew we should have bought it when we saw it but I can’t for the life of me remember where we saw it.

All that was left was the short stroll back to the Cheyenne (via Hotel New York to see if they had the bauble) to pick up the car. It was then off to the Kyriad. Again the hotel was functional but excellent value for money. Finally it was time to go to sleep and bring our adventure to a close.

Sounds like you had a great meal at Cafe Mickey! :thumbsup2 Love those chipmunks! :goodvibes

We wondered about the soldiers on the Friday night too :( We watched from the castle stage benches, and the Peter Pan/Mary Poppins float stopped for aaaages and then the rest was really rushed, Santa zoomed past us! Must have been some kind of technical problem.
Glad to hear you had such a great trip despite the weather and crowds :goodvibes Cafe Mickey was magical for us too on our first night, see my TR so far.
