The horse girl, her big guy and WDW..a trip report! Update 8/4-Day 10, pg 26!

Day 5, part 1

Epcot day. DH wasn't thrilled. He hates Epcot. Stole the name of HellCot from punkin413’s DH. He doesn’t complain though. He was mysteriously slower to get up today. But first we had to check in over at SSR!!!! :woohoo: We had considered taking the bus to DD and then transferring to SSR, then checking in. CSR would move our luggage for us. We thought that it would take way too much time to do this. I figured it would be about $10 to take a taxi from CSR to SSR, tip included. After calling the desk I found out that the taxis can’t come into CSR so we had to move our bags to bell services. It would have been nice if he could have met us in the parking lot under our room. We decided to call for help…it’s about ½ mile walk...and DH was not having it again. He didn’t want to get sweaty too early in the day!! So the bellhop guy arrived within 5 minutes and drove us over. We tipped $3. I guess it should have been $4 since we had 4 pieces of luggage but oh well. Then we jumped in a taxi. We are planning on taking a Mears taxi to Dixie Stampede on Thurs. They charge $3 for the first mile and $2 each add’l mile. (DS is about 10 miles away) I figured this taxi from Checker Cab would be the same. Nope. By the time we got to SSR our tab was $11.50 plus tip…so we gave him $14. He was very nice but DH noticed the fare thing ticking over as we were at a light!! So these guys must charge by time and by the mile. RIPOFF!!! So our little excursion cost us $17. Oh well.

But we were finally home!!!!

DH went to store our bags with bell services since we knew our room wouldn’t be ready and I went to check in. I was helped right away.

0602.jpg

He immediately said, “Welcome Home!!” What a great feeling!! He set us up on the dining plan which was the first time for us. Yeah!!! Told us of course that our room wasn’t ready and gave us a card with a # on it if we wanted to call and check on the room status later. He did say he could call our cell when it was ready but we leave them off and in the room so that wouldn’t help. I told him we were heading to Epcot anyway so it didn’t matter. Besides all that though the resort was beautiful!!! Definitely our style for sure…it confirmed that buying DVC was a great idea for us..no matter what the in-laws think!! The CM didn’t tell us what section we were in and I forgot to ask…I had requested Grandstand though. I didn’t really know which section was better when I made the reservation…I just went with Grandstand b/c it was the newest.

So we were off to Hellcot..oops I mean Epcot!! It was after 9 at this point and I usually like to get to the parks by 8:30. Oh well. The bus stop near the lobby was a 2 min. walk away..kind of hidden behind the pool on the main road. I heard a man complaining about finding the bus stop and I had to laugh b/c the jerk was so mad he walked right by the sign pointing him to the stop. Ha. We walked by this guy on the way to the bus stop!!

We got to Epcot and like good tour guide readers we went over and got a FP for Soarin ASAP.

0382.jpg

I like this ride…honestly though, not sure why it attracts the wait. Don’t get me wrong..it is a unique ride that everyone would enjoy but 110 min waits?? Not sure about that. Our FP time was for a few hours later (and it was only 9:45!) so we rode the Land. This was closed last year when we were here. I vaguely remember it from when I was little. It helped that we had a family of Chatty Kathys in the row behind us. I think I forgot to mention that DH and I can’t read signs so it was great that they could shout out the names of plants we passed by and then continue to yak about them. Lovely. It wasn’t just conversation decibel..it was obnoxious. Grr. But we enjoyed this ride regardless.

Then we stopped in Sunshine Seasons and had a small breakfast. Yikes..4 snack credits gone!! But I didn’t think we would be using any on Sat. so it was all good. I just got a bowl of cereal/milk (Fruit Loops for all you Dis’ers that know I love my sugar cereal!) and DH got a chocolate Chip muffin. No pictures. Not exciting enough. (And if you don’t know what a muffin and fruit loops look like you need more help then a picture could give anyway)

We headed over to the Figment ride. Another one we missed last year and one I kind of remember from my 85 trip. It was cute but it was so updated that nothing came back to me. We skipped all the hands on stuff afterwards..we aren’t into that. The last must-do on our list was Spaceship Earth.

0442.jpg

Ask me how I did not remember there was a ride in here last trip?? I must have been having a senior moment (I am pretty old you know!) It was one of those things were I knew there was a ride in the back of my head but it didn’t click. Well this year the light was on and someone was home so we got in line. It was about a 20 min. wait but it was continuously moving. Not bad. The ride was cool….I certainly liked it. Part of me wishes they would never update rides..sometimes the cheesiness of the old stuff is nostalgic. So part of this ride was too modern for me. But I am not the norm.

It was now 11:30 and I was hungry. We decided on Electric Umbrella and got there before the rush.

0432.jpg

Our first DDP meal!!! They didn’t have any reg. hamburg meals…just double cheeseburgers and bacon/double cheeseburgers. No bother. DH and I both got the double cheeseburger meals. Mine with apples and his with fries. For dessert he got the chocolate Chip cookies and me the strawberry cheesecake.

0422.jpg

The food was great!! We really didn’t expect it to be but the burgers were grilled like we were cooking on our grill at home. I don’t know how I finished it plus the cheesecake but I did!!! Yummy!! We will definitely be back here.

On our way to get FP’s for Mission Space we tried to decide what version we would do. We did green last time to be safe and I was 110% fine with it. So do we up it to orange this trip? Hmm. We read the sign and orange had spinning. I didn’t realize there wasn’t ANY spinning on the green version. Duh. Spinning is what does me in. So we decided when we came back we would do green again to be safe. I didn’t want to be sick for Garden Grill later that night.

We still wanted to do the new Nemo ride and headed over there.

0472.jpg

It had a 30 min wait but it moved pretty fast..just lots of winding back and forth. It was cute for sure…short though. I liked the ending though..very cool. But I won’t say too much for those of you who haven’t ridden it.

It was now 1:00 and we were both hot and tired so decided to try Club Station Cool and then go back to SSR (if our room was ready) until 4. I am a pretty good liar….that’s a head’s up to your Peeps who may meet me in Sept. So I had no problem setting DH for Beverly. I said this whole speal about how Beverly was the good one b/c my cousin used to live in Beverly, Mass and that’s how I can always remember. Now you would think that with me waiting to take a picture would tip him off. Or the other people trying it and gagging. Nope. He fell for it hook, line and sinker. Here’s the proof!!

0452.jpg

Ha. I wouldn’t even try it. I’m not dumb!

I stopped at the pay phone in the locker area. Mind you there is no A/C in there. Ugh. It was hotter in there then outside!! I called the number the CM had given me at check-in and the operator (not a SSR one, just a general parks one) told me our room was #2223 and it was ready, have a nice day. Um hello?? What building?? I was not about to trek around 18 buildings to find out. So after being on hold for what seemed like 10 min. she finally came back and told me Congress Park. Okkkaaayyy…..we didn’t get what we requested. We decided to do Soarin' later in the day...we were too excited to get to our room!!! So we grabbed the bus back to SSR and got off at the lobby. It took awhile to grab our bags from bell services but this awesome guy from Albany (3 hours from me) said he would take us over to our room. He was super nice and went on, and on, and on, AND ON about SSR. It was nice to have someone so helpful but we were tired and just wanted to get into our room. He actually said Congress Park was the most requested and hardest to get into b/c it has it’s own pool and a walk way to DD. Nice!! I don’t know why I didn’t realize this when I made the reservation. He brought everything up to our rooms and kept talking. And talking. And talking. Friendly is great but I just wanted to sit down!! Finally he went on his merry way and we were free to soak up our “second home.”

Room views...the 2nd SSR pool was directly behind us

Next up...dinner at Garden Grill!

thanks for the pics of SSR!!! it gets me even more excited! we requested CG (duh....you already know that!) and i hope we get it. but if we don't that's fine too. i don't care....i just love the look of that entire place!

i'm glad you liked nemo.....i don't remember how it ended because all i can think about when i think of that ride is a screaming child. bad memories!!! :scared:

oh, did i tell you ray agreed to actually step onto epcot property next april? but just for dinner at le cellier and for illuminations. that's it! if we get there early enough before dinner we may do mission space again, too. hmmm....mission space plus a big dinner at le cellier? sounds dangerous to me! we shall see how that goes...

can't wait for more! :thumbsup2

Yeah I think the only way I will get Ray and my friend's DH in there next Aug. is for dinner and Illuminations. Otherwise the plan is for them to golf that day!!

Although..DH definitely liked the regular Epcot stuff. I think it's the World Showcase he doesn't!!

by the way, i meant CP (congress park) and not CG....my DISing acronym skills sometimes get a little mixed up!

I think I forgot to mention that DH and I can’t read signs so it was great that they could shout out the names of plants we passed by and then continue to yak about them. Lovely.
Do I detect a note of sarcasm? :rotfl2: You and Dawn have both been so unlucky with the people you ride with haven't you! SSR sounds lovely :goodvibes

I'm enjoying your T.R. Congrats on the wedding and the little surprise from Mickey! I can't wait to read more. :thumbsup2

I have finally caught up...... I have really enjoyed your TR and I love the pictures:love: looking forward to hearing about the rest of your trip and about SSR...... We were at SSR the last week in June and it was our first trip home... We had a studio in CP near the quiet pool.... We thought it was beautiful..... I loved having a balcony..... We bought into DVC in January of this year sight unseen at SSR and before going we did a 50 point add on... how crazy is that..... I understand the family thing.... about everyone thinks we nuts...... maybe we are, but that o'kay... the DW and I love it:love:

Looking forward to your next report......popcorn::

We were at SSR, the last week of June (6/27-7/2), in CP, near the quiet pool. What room were you in? We were in #2223. Wouldn't that have been funny if we were right near eachother?

Our room was #1636 on the 2nd floor...... We are going back to SSR for Thanksgiving..... can't wait to tell the rest of our family we'll be at Disney for turkey..... I can see the reaction now  or :sad2: ...... I think we will try for the Grandstand section..... I like the fact the Grandstand is the first bus stop eventhough we never had a problem getting on the bus at CP.... we could have been waiting at the bus stop together..... anyway.. I really hope you guy's will enjoy your DVC membership.....we are calling this Saturday for our June 2008 vacation a Sunday - Friday in a 1BR at SSR and hope to add at the 7 month window finish our vacation with 4 nights at Vero Beach......

Have a great one.....now back to :surfweb:

We were probably near eachother somewhere..we were 2nd floor too! We are heading back in Aug. next year and then for Xmas!! The in-laws already know we are going for Xmas but I think they think the week after. I am sure the comments will fly when they find out we will be there for actual Xmas Eve/day.

I am glad you are enjoying SSR as much as us!! I think we will stay with CP next time just b/c it was so close to the DD walk. I liked that. But did you also find the music coming from PI as annoying as me?? I could hear it at 7am!!!!!

We could hear the music out on the balcony, but once inside the room I didn't notice it.....Thankfully..... 7am is a little much.... We would love to be down there for Xmas one of these years ....... I can just see the grief we would get for not being around for Xmas, we are hearing it now because we'll be at Disney for Thanksgiving .... the outlaws..I mean the in-laws don't understand how we can be away from family..... the drama of it all....for the record I do love them.... so I know how Xmas would go over....but one of these years we' re going to do it........

Looking forward to the rest of your TR.............popcorn::

I'm with you, Tara. If we can't be at the parks close to opening, the plan falls apart. It's amazing how much more you can see if you get up a little earlier! ;)

I'm enjoying this tremendously....keep it coming please. :goodvibes

I know! The difference between getting there 30m. before opening and 2 hours after is huge!!!

Day 5, part 2

The room was gorgeous! :thumbsup2 We were on the second floor with a great little patio. Everything was just like I had hoped it would be from viewing tons of pictures. I started unpacking our clothes and putting them in the drawers. Now granted, we only had 5 more nights left, but it just felt nice to have the suitcases out of sigh, in the closet. Also in the closet was a vacuum in case we felt the need to vacuum on vacation! Ha..even I am not that OCD!! DH took a shower and I sat out on the balcony. You could see the pool from our room..it was directly in front of us, behind some trees. We rested for a bit and headed over to the lobby to get a snack. I found a nice DVC sticker for my car. I had a Navy one on there (you know those oval stickers everyone has) but just took it off since DH is done with the service. So now I have a new one!! The back of my car was very uneven with one side having an Adirondacks sticker and the other now blank. DW prefers things nice and even. ;) Then we caught the bus there back to Epcot.

We decided to skip Test Track this year unless it had a quick FP time. We did it last year, and it was fun, but not really a ride you need to do twice. Unless you’re a guy. DH is one of those but was ok with skipping it. The FP return time wasn’t until 8ish and it was only 4:30. The Soarin FP’s were already gone for the day so it was smart thinking on my part to get those early. We had a ten minute FP wait time and we boarded our "flight." I mentioned before that I like this ride but not sure what all the hype is about. Then we “rode” Ellen’s Energy which was ok.

0462.jpg

I had trouble staying awake!! Not a good ride to do in the late afternoon! But this is the location where I first met cranky CM. In two trips to WDW we had yet to find a cranky CM. Of course we have had quiet ones who aren’t overly friendly..that’s ok. But this guy was a jerk and wouldn’t you know I didn’t think to get his name. Until after the ride and he was MIA. Apparently Ellen has an 8 minute preshow. We didn’t know this so when we walked into the auditorium we saw all the seats around the edge taken and a bunch of people on the floor. I started thinking that I would not be pleased to sit on the floor for 45 min so I thought I would check with a CM to find out what the deal was. Cranky Man (ha! :lmao: “CM”) was the first guy I came too. All I asked was, “Do you have to sit on the floor for the whole show?” His reply was (in a cranky voice of course), “No you are not allowed to sit on the floor!!! This is an 8 minute preshow and not where you watch the 37 minute show.” Now through a TR that does not sound mean but my friends, he had the same sarcastic, condescending tone as DSIL. How pleasant. Made me feel like an idiot and me no likey.

ANYWAY, after that trama we headed over to Mission Space. We had decided on green again but while we were waiting in line I just had a real bad feeling pass over me. I could have cared less if we rode this one but I knew DH wanted too. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was going to get sick this time. I told DH and said I would wait for him outside but he said it was ok..we could skip it. I just didn’t want to be sick for Garden Grill. So we went over there for our ADR 30 minutes early. We gave our names of course and only waited about 3 minutes for our table. Next time I will request the bottom floor..you can’t see much from the top level. It would suck even more if you had 8 kids in tow. I started having déjà vu about this TS. I think I went here in 85 but have no way of knowing since I can’t find the pics and my dad has a memory like a sieve. :confused3 I will believe I did.

Our waiter was “a CM who spoke 3 languages” b/c I can’t remember his name. He spoke German and Japanese (I think?) and was from Morocco but had a German accent. Cute too. He was really good but the characters…eh, not so much. I think a lot of them see two young adults like us and figure a wave is enough. Um hello? It most certainly is not!! So we were snubbed by Mickey, Dale and Pluto but did get a pic with Chip. Alas, it was a retched one with my eyes closed so it got deleted. So I wasn’t a fan of the characters but then again I could have been aggressive and tackled them for a pic. Yeah, that would go over well.

The food though was fantastic!! The salad had some sort of rasp. Dressing (go look it up…it wasn’t mentioned on the menus) and the biscuits/rolls were nice and warm.

0662.jpg

DH did not try the catfish but I thought it was good and I normally don’t like any fish except haddock.

0672.jpg

The potatoes and veggies were yummy and all the meat as well.

0682.jpg

The dessert was a berry puff thing..not sure what the fancy name is!! Delicious!!!! :thumbsup2

0692.jpg

We will definitely go back here..even If we get snubbed again.

By this time DH knew it was time to hit the dreaded World Showcase. I only wanted to ride the Maelstrom and the “new” Mexico ride. Then the plan was to see Illuminations since we missed it last year. Mexico was first. I don’t even remember what the old boat tour was called but I know it had a new name b/c the Three Callabraros is now featured on the sign. Hmm. The ride had a 5 min. wait and proved to be very cute. It has all those screens with new video footage of Mexico with the characters on the screen too. No more scary dancing puppets in the last room or footage inviting you to Mexico after you vote for Nixon. But, as with Spaceship Earth..I do enjoy the cheese and missed it a bit. But now the ride is more kid friendly so that’s good. I am just sad that the future generation will not have scary images in their brains of dancing Mexicans on strings when they go to bed. And what’s up with those frightening skeletons playing guitar??

Off to Norway to ride Maelstrom. This ride had a 30 min. wait!! Last year we walked on. That’s the difference between last week of Aug and last week of June. There were some naughty boys in line in front of us. It took all I had to not go Super Nanny on the parents. They were letting the kids hit and kick them, not to mention talk back. It made for a very long 30 min. Although, and DH and I had been waiting for this all week, the boy was sitting on the bars when oops…he fell off!!! Ha!! I wanted to point my finger and laugh but alas, that would be rude. ;)

I didn’t remember this ride being so short but I am still glad we rode. At least the naughty kids were now in back of us now and scared to death so they were quiet. Now the dilemma came. It was over and hour until Illuminations. Ugh. We were so hot and tired we decided to just head home. The walk from WS is enough to make you want to get an ECV like the rest of the lazy Disney guests. I am going to step on my soapbox here. Now I will apologize in advance if I offend anyone. I hate lazy people who have these vehicles for that reason alone. Now I know there are MANY legit drivers of these things and many of the people I saw that looked fine probably have a hidden disability. But I would say 50% of these lovely guests are just plain old LAZY and it drives me nuts. I just wish these vehicles didn’t also come with a free power trip that makes the driver think he or she is king of the road. Get out and walk is all I can say!! Same goes for all the 10 year olds (or older!!) I see getting mom and dad to push them around in strollers. What???

Getting off soapbox now……I was skipping Illuminations right? Yeppers. We bailed. I feel a tad bad about it b/c there isn’t a day we could see it later in the trip. Oh well. I figure I can see it in Sept. So we got back to the hotel around 9 and DH wanted to go in the hot tub. He got some kind of heat rash on his back (I get one every year) and thought the chlorine would help it. He headed down there, which was a 2 min. walk, and I grabbed the garbage bag of laundry and followed. The nice thing about the DVC resorts is you get free laundry. :woohoo: Of course I had my clearance laundry detergent so I was all set. The washers are adjacent to the pool so I hung out there while DH sat in the hot tub for an hour. No, I didn’t go in. It has to be very hot for me to want to go swimming. I know, I know. FL is hot!! But by this time it really wasn’t. So there. :snooty:

That finished our night and we headed to bed early for once!

Up next Dixie Stampede!!

Garden Grill sounds really good, perhaps I will have to try it out next time. That is too bad that the characters snubbed you. This happened to us at 1900 Park Fare. Prince Charming said hello and goodbye and that was it. He was there for like 2 seconds. The rest of the characters that night were good though.

Your room at Saratoga sounds really nice. I have DVC envy.:goodvibes

I will definately remember to request lower level in GG and that sucks that the characters snubbed you  Quick sidenote last trip DD was 7 and a small 7 and she had no stroller we didn't even consider one and she did fine and we did long days too!

Hey I'm a gal and I liked it! ;)
Then we “rode” Ellen’s Energy which was ok.

Why would you even attempt this? I heard it was long and boring!

I had trouble staying awake!! Not a good ride to do in the late afternoon! But this is the location where I first met cranky CM.

I hope you said something completely sarcastic back to him!

But I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was going to get sick this time.

In hindsite, now we know why!!
Next time I will request the bottom floor..you can’t see much from the top level.

I didnt even know there were two levels until I started Dissing :confused3

I think a lot of them see two young adults like us and figure a wave is enough. Um hello? It most certainly is not!! So we were snubbed by Mickey, Dale and Pluto but did get a pic with Chip.

This is unacceptable! Did you say anything??? Boy I gotta give you lessons in sticking up for yourself at Disney!!! :rotfl:

I agree about the strollers....my DD3 hardly got in at all. Next time we go I may bring an umbrella stroller just in case. I believe in walking! Its good for the kids!!

Getting off soapbox now……I was skipping Illuminations right? Yeppers. We bailed.

Sorry you missed it...I did too and also MK Wishes! There's always next time!
The washers are adjacent to the pool so I hung out there while DH sat in the hot tub for an hour. No, I didn’t go in.

Good thing you didnt go in! I loved the hot tub myself! Thats great you could do your laundry right there and relax!
Up next Dixie Stampede!!

Great update again Tara! Sounds like a good day overall! ;)

When I saw "horse girl" I just couldn't resist reading your trip report. I love dogs and horses, although sadly I can't afford to have horses in my life at the moment. Fairfield COunty is an expensive place to even ride with $60 for a 45 min lesson being common.

I love your TR and haven't read it all, but plan to read every page of it!

I wonder if they just get in a mood and don't feel like socializing that night. I have no idea. Maybe they have been yelled at by single people and assume they don't want to be bothered. :confused3

I am glad she didn't need a stroller. I figure if the child doesn't use one at home then why do you need one at WDW??? But there are exceptions of course but not for a 10yo!!

Great update again Tara! Sounds like a good day overall! ;)

It was!! Next installment coming as soon as I can put the new Harry Potter book down!! :rotfl:

That is steep for a lesson. Here a private 45 min. lesson is about $45...a group would be about $25. Maybe you could take one a month just to get your horse fix in??? :confused3 Thanks for reading!!! :wizard:
