Day 5, part 1
Epcot day. DH wasn't thrilled. He hates Epcot. Stole the name of HellCot from punkin413’s DH. He doesn’t complain though. He was mysteriously slower to get up today. But first we had to check in over at SSR!!!!
We had considered taking the bus to DD and then transferring to SSR, then checking in. CSR would move our luggage for us. We thought that it would take way too much time to do this. I figured it would be about $10 to take a taxi from CSR to SSR, tip included. After calling the desk I found out that the taxis can’t come into CSR so we had to move our bags to bell services. It would have been nice if he could have met us in the parking lot under our room. We decided to call for help…it’s about ½ mile walk...and DH was not having it again. He didn’t want to get sweaty too early in the day!! So the bellhop guy arrived within 5 minutes and drove us over. We tipped $3. I guess it should have been $4 since we had 4 pieces of luggage but oh well. Then we jumped in a taxi. We are planning on taking a Mears taxi to Dixie Stampede on Thurs. They charge $3 for the first mile and $2 each add’l mile. (DS is about 10 miles away) I figured this taxi from Checker Cab would be the same. Nope. By the time we got to SSR our tab was $11.50 plus tip…so we gave him $14. He was very nice but DH noticed the fare thing ticking over as we were at a light!! So these guys must charge by time and by the mile. RIPOFF!!! So our little excursion cost us $17. Oh well.
But we were finally home!!!!
DH went to store our bags with bell services since we knew our room wouldn’t be ready and I went to check in. I was helped right away.
He immediately said, “Welcome Home!!” What a great feeling!! He set us up on the dining plan which was the first time for us. Yeah!!! Told us of course that our room wasn’t ready and gave us a card with a # on it if we wanted to call and check on the room status later. He did say he could call our cell when it was ready but we leave them off and in the room so that wouldn’t help. I told him we were heading to Epcot anyway so it didn’t matter. Besides all that though the resort was beautiful!!! Definitely our style for sure…it confirmed that buying DVC was a great idea for us..no matter what the in-laws think!! The CM didn’t tell us what section we were in and I forgot to ask…I had requested Grandstand though. I didn’t really know which section was better when I made the reservation…I just went with Grandstand b/c it was the newest.
So we were off to Hellcot..oops I mean Epcot!! It was after 9 at this point and I usually like to get to the parks by 8:30. Oh well. The bus stop near the lobby was a 2 min. walk away..kind of hidden behind the pool on the main road. I heard a man complaining about finding the bus stop and I had to laugh b/c the jerk was so mad he walked right by the sign pointing him to the stop. Ha. We walked by this guy on the way to the bus stop!!

We got to Epcot and like good tour guide readers we went over and got a FP for Soarin ASAP.
I like this ride…honestly though, not sure why it attracts the wait. Don’t get me wrong..it is a unique ride that everyone would enjoy but 110 min waits?? Not sure about that. Our FP time was for a few hours later (and it was only 9:45!) so we rode the Land. This was closed last year when we were here. I vaguely remember it from when I was little. It helped that we had a family of Chatty Kathys in the row behind us. I think I forgot to mention that DH and I can’t read signs so it was great that they could shout out the names of plants we passed by and then continue to yak about them. Lovely. It wasn’t just conversation decibel..it was obnoxious. Grr. But we enjoyed this ride regardless.

Then we stopped in Sunshine Seasons and had a small breakfast. Yikes..4 snack credits gone!! But I didn’t think we would be using any on Sat. so it was all good. I just got a bowl of cereal/milk (Fruit Loops for all you Dis’ers that know I love my sugar cereal!) and DH got a chocolate Chip muffin. No pictures. Not exciting enough. (And if you don’t know what a muffin and fruit loops look like you need more help then a picture could give anyway)
We headed over to the Figment ride. Another one we missed last year and one I kind of remember from my 85 trip. It was cute but it was so updated that nothing came back to me. We skipped all the hands on stuff afterwards..we aren’t into that. The last must-do on our list was Spaceship Earth.
Ask me how I did not remember there was a ride in here last trip?? I must have been having a senior moment (I am pretty old you know!) It was one of those things were I knew there was a ride in the back of my head but it didn’t click. Well this year the light was on and someone was home so we got in line. It was about a 20 min. wait but it was continuously moving. Not bad. The ride was cool….I certainly liked it. Part of me wishes they would never update rides..sometimes the cheesiness of the old stuff is nostalgic. So part of this ride was too modern for me. But I am not the norm.
It was now 11:30 and I was hungry. We decided on Electric Umbrella and got there before the rush.
Our first DDP meal!!! They didn’t have any reg. hamburg meals…just double cheeseburgers and bacon/double cheeseburgers. No bother. DH and I both got the double cheeseburger meals. Mine with apples and his with fries. For dessert he got the chocolate Chip cookies and me the strawberry cheesecake.
The food was great!! We really didn’t expect it to be but the burgers were grilled like we were cooking on our grill at home. I don’t know how I finished it plus the cheesecake but I did!!! Yummy!! We will definitely be back here.
On our way to get FP’s for Mission Space we tried to decide what version we would do. We did green last time to be safe and I was 110% fine with it. So do we up it to orange this trip? Hmm. We read the sign and orange had spinning. I didn’t realize there wasn’t ANY spinning on the green version. Duh. Spinning is what does me in. So we decided when we came back we would do green again to be safe. I didn’t want to be sick for Garden Grill later that night.
We still wanted to do the new Nemo ride and headed over there.
It had a 30 min wait but it moved pretty fast..just lots of winding back and forth. It was cute for sure…short though. I liked the ending though..very cool. But I won’t say too much for those of you who haven’t ridden it.
It was now 1:00 and we were both hot and tired so decided to try Club Station Cool and then go back to SSR (if our room was ready) until 4. I am a pretty good liar….that’s a head’s up to your Peeps who may meet me in Sept.
So I had no problem setting DH for Beverly. I said this whole speal about how Beverly was the good one b/c my cousin used to live in Beverly, Mass and that’s how I can always remember. Now you would think that with me waiting to take a picture would tip him off. Or the other people trying it and gagging. Nope. He fell for it hook, line and sinker. Here’s the proof!!
Ha. I wouldn’t even try it. I’m not dumb!
I stopped at the pay phone in the locker area. Mind you there is no A/C in there. Ugh. It was hotter in there then outside!! I called the number the CM had given me at check-in and the operator (not a SSR one, just a general parks one) told me our room was #2223 and it was ready, have a nice day. Um hello?? What building?? I was not about to trek around 18 buildings to find out. So after being on hold for what seemed like 10 min. she finally came back and told me Congress Park. Okkkaaayyy…..we didn’t get what we requested. We decided to do Soarin' later in the day...we were too excited to get to our room!!! So we grabbed the bus back to SSR and got off at the lobby. It took awhile to grab our bags from bell services but this awesome guy from Albany (3 hours from me) said he would take us over to our room. He was super nice and went on, and on, and on, AND ON about SSR. It was nice to have someone so helpful but we were tired and just wanted to get into our room. He actually said Congress Park was the most requested and hardest to get into b/c it has it’s own pool and a walk way to DD. Nice!! I don’t know why I didn’t realize this when I made the reservation. He brought everything up to our rooms and kept talking. And talking. And talking. Friendly is great but I just wanted to sit down!! Finally he went on his merry way and we were free to soak up our “second home.”
