The *Holiday* Thread!!

You are so smart, George. The Wise Men/Kings were actually Philosphers and Astronomers. I heard from a historian that they said there were actually only two of them, but there were 3 gifts.

And they were from Asia, weren't they? Like where it says "Wise men from the East" and the fact that Asians were so interested in astronomy back then. Plus, Asians believed that when a new star was formed, a ruler was born. So since they were astronomers, they could notice when there was a new star, they wanted to follow it to see the new ruler.

Here's a few interesting facts on the story of Jesus' birth.

There were no animals present at birth of Jesus. In 1223, St. Francis of Assisi first came up with the idea that Jesus was in a crib.

The Bible does not state that there were three Wise Men (or kings), they were priests, it just said that there were three gifts. It doesn't even say there were three of them or even if they were male.

Christmas is celebrated on 25 December because it is the birthday of the Roman god Mithras, who bears similarities with Jesus Christ.

Really? They told us in church last week that it was on the 25 because that is a day that other hollidays were celebrated in England. The church just decided to put Christmas on the 25th to clear up confusion. That's what we were taught. But that's cool that there are different views of it.

Our Christmases are strictly secular. We keep religion out of it.
i don't need to hear that it's CHRISTmas.
I know.

God I love Christmas! Everyone gets so happy and nice and the weather gets colder (perfect snuggle weather ;) ) and Soccer starts in December too! So I just LOVE the Holidays!

But one bad thing about the Holidays is that you don't get to see your boyfriend or friends from school until you go back unless you invite them over but most people go on vacation......

Because it's so... ew.
Ugh, I hate pretty much everything about it, you have to get gifts for people you don't even talk to, all the stores are crowded with a ton of *****y people, the music is horrid, and all anyone cares about is what they're getting for christmas. I don't want to give people things, and I don't want to get things from them, they can use the money they would have spent on me to get the things they want, because whatever they get me, I don't want it.
And Christmas parties? Those are just an excuse for people to get drunk.
It's all consumerism for a lot of people, everyone will spend sooo much money to impress people, and then they are so shocked that they have no money left.
I'm not even christian, and most christians I know don't go to church or celebrate any togetherness in some form, they just get their presents, and use them the rest of the day. I'm not saying all people are like that, but there's still a lot of people who are.
Ugh, I hate it so much.

That is very true, for different people its different things.

I am a christian, the thing about christmas that I honestly adore (and no this isnt some stupid corny crap that isnt true) is about the time spent with people i NEVER see.

I dont have it bad, i actually have it pretty good, but im SICK of people (that i attend school with) making fun of my lifes events when it goes "DEATH DEATH DEATH" all in a row like that, and thats only the people i cared MOST about. (There was more deaths involved)

It wasnt their death that made me sad, but its the fact that i never got to know these people and the ones that i did get to know, i was always sad that i could never see them more.

So, you see christmas time is the only time i ever get in contact with these people is during the holidays,

Yeah, maybe i only get a stinkin card from them that says 'thinking of you these holidays, love your aunt" at least its a form of contact, that i treasure.

So maybe your family isnt as jacked up as mine, and maybe another persons is worse but personally I like the holidays.

You dont have to.
Nothing states that you do.

but others do, and maybe their reasons are actually legitimate.

Thats just my opinion, and i hope you respect it. Just like I respect yours, and anyone elses.
