The *Holiday* Thread!!

WHAT?!?!?!?? WHY NOT?!?!?!??!

Because it's so... ew.
Ugh, I hate pretty much everything about it, you have to get gifts for people you don't even talk to, all the stores are crowded with a ton of *****y people, the music is horrid, and all anyone cares about is what they're getting for christmas. I don't want to give people things, and I don't want to get things from them, they can use the money they would have spent on me to get the things they want, because whatever they get me, I don't want it.
And Christmas parties? Those are just an excuse for people to get drunk.
It's all consumerism for a lot of people, everyone will spend sooo much money to impress people, and then they are so shocked that they have no money left.
I'm not even christian, and most christians I know don't go to church or celebrate any togetherness in some form, they just get their presents, and use them the rest of the day. I'm not saying all people are like that, but there's still a lot of people who are.
Ugh, I hate it so much.

I feel sorry that you don't get the true meaning of holidays. Presents are not what Christmas is about. Christmas is about getting together, being with family, and having fun with them. Taking a break from busy lives to relax. And if you're religious, the birth of Jesus Christ.

Personally, I like Christmas. For me, its all about the birth of Jesus Christ and sharing time with family and friends. I don't care about receiving gifts, but I love giving them.

Me too, that is the most important part of Christmas to me.

If you watch a Charlie Brown Christmas and when Linus gives his speech about What Christmas is all about. That is what it means to me, all the other stuff is secondary.

I like that part.

I like that part.
That is my favorite part and he is my favorite Peanuts Character. They have a Hallmark Christmas Ornament with Linus on a stage and you press a button and a spot light comes on him and he says that. it is awesome.

No, I see that part of Christmas all the time. Sometimes I feel that way. It's definitely how my dad feels.
I like Christmas Eve, because everyone is together, talking about the past, eating, having fun. there's anticipation for the morning, sure, but I like it when I'm eating turkey dinner with my family and having a nice discussion.
I've always like Christmas eve, and the entire month leading up to Christmas.
Christmas day aint' so great. It's like, open presents, eat breakfast...
Now what?

I love everything about christmas. I am christian so obviously it is a big part of my faith, next to easter. Next to that I love all the songs movies ect about christmas. No station around her plays songs until the day after thanksgive :[. ABC family is starting there movies on like Nov. 16 or somthing like that. One every day at least until christmas. :D. I also like how its that crisp kind of cold, then again I live in Florida so the crisp cold is nice and not freezing. I also love shopping for other people and getting them gifts. I love seeing all my family when they come down, and hanging out with my cousin. Oh and then we are followed by New Years! I love new years eve just as much. :D Every year on new years eve for the past couple years I have hung out with my friend at her house for either a party or just us, then on New Years day we go to Busch Gardens. :D It is so empty we just run around and be crazy.

I love christmas SO SO MUCH!
It is my favorite time of the year.
I always work in the mall during christmas time, and I just LOVE how many people are at the mall. I know, I'm part of a small majority, but I love having a bajillion customers. It makes the time go faster, and I love the

We always celebrated christmas on christmas eve, so christmas eve is the day I'm always anticipating for!

i think one of the things that excites me the most is the 25 days of Christmas on ABC :]

Well, the christmas tree represents the trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). We give gifts because the 3 wisemen brought them to see baby jesus. (remember: gold, frankensence (sp?) and myrr.)

I'm sorry you feel that way. You must have alot of pain associated with the holidays. But please don't bring the grinchness to this thread.

We have a tradition of only giving and receiving 3 gifts from each person in the family. That represents the gifts the Wisemen gave Jesus.

That's awesome!!!
We have done that since I can remember and it keeps down on the expenses.

Here's a few interesting facts on the story of Jesus' birth.

There were no animals present at birth of Jesus. In 1223, St. Francis of Assisi first came up with the idea that Jesus was in a crib.

The Bible does not state that there were three Wise Men (or kings), they were priests, it just said that there were three gifts. It doesn't even say there were three of them or even if they were male.

Christmas is celebrated on 25 December because it is the birthday of the Roman god Mithras, who bears similarities with Jesus Christ.

You are so smart, George. The Wise Men/Kings were actually Philosphers and Astronomers. I heard from a historian that they said there were actually only two of them, but there were 3 gifts.
