THE HOLDOVERS: A New Christmas Classic

We saw this last summer at Telluride. I liked it way more than I thought it would. Something just clicked. It took a formulaic premise and, and amped almost everything up. Back then, I wrote:

THE HOLDOVERS is a beautifully realized story of a curmudgeonly boarding school teacher forced to oversee five students with nowhere to go over Christmas break and who have to stay at the school over the holidays, in the newest from Alexander Payne (SIDEWAYS, THE DESCENDANTS, ABOUT SCHMIDT). Paul Giamatti does a fantastic job of breathing life into a caricature, and the screenplay is wise and enlightening. Oh, and it’s a great Christmas Movie too.

Thanks. We have regal unlimited passes, so we go to the movies at least once a week. We’ve seen the previews & intend to see it, just not sure when. It definitely looks good.

the movie was so accurate to the era of 70's movies. the feel was so accurate as far as structure of the film/story. i SO HOPE all 5 actors (paul, da'vine, dominic, carrie and naheem) recieve oscar nominations-spectacular performances!!!!! the cinematography, editing, costuming....was spot on.
