The haunted Haunted Mansion

On Thursday night, Oct. 4, we rode a doom buggy in the Haunted Mansion.
As we entered the graveyard, we heard three quick taps on the back of the doom buggy. O.K., we thought it was someone leaning forward from the buggy behind us; however, as we entered the hitch-hiking ghost area we noticed that the buggy behind us was empty!

Outside, we asked two HM cast members (separately) if any CM was in the attraction that night providing an extra "haunt" for guests. They both said that no CM can be in there since it would "stop the ride." The next day we asked two more HM cast members about our experience and confirmed what the other CMs explained to us the day before.

Any logical explanation to this? Was it some periodic mechanical problem that others have experienced?

[I was going to post this right away when we got home but I waited because it sounded so incredulous.]

We initially assumed that it was a planted HM CM who did the three quick taps (after all, one of the HM CM's removed one of the small dinner plates that compose a hidden Mickey in the Ballroom during MNSSH that week) and that they all played the deny game with guests such as us who asked about such an experience. But each of the HM CM delivered a seemingly honest reply to our inquiry.

I was terrified of this ride as a kid. I still jump some in the graveyard scene. I am not sure I could handle that tapping noise. I would probably start screaming. This ride will take on a whole new meaning for me now.

I am always scared when I ride this ride, but it is one of my favorites. If that happened to me, I can honestly say I would never ride it again! haha!

We are clearly not trying to conjure up make-believe stories that generate realistic scares for HM guests; it's just that we are almost at a loss for words regarding a logical explanation to our experience.

I think that might be a little "too" much of touches to me!
I will definitely be waiting for the tap, tap, tap on my next trip. I really do wish I could figure it out though. I am with the original poster, there has to be a reason. Someone is not fessing up to the truth!

Was there someone in the car in front of you? Because when you enter the graveyard and hit that big hill where you turn around, the car that was in front of you becomes the car behind you as you go backwards. Then, when you get to the bottom of the hill, as I remember, the buggy turns back around. If that makes sense. My guess is it was those people that tapped on your car. (I will admit to adding a little extra scare to a few people this way before.)

We were there last week. This is our absolutely favorite ride. When we were going through the ball room scence, there was something that we had never seen before, and what the CM said is freaking us out. At the top of the stairs, between where the two ghost have their shoot out, there is an arched door way, we saw something at that door way that kind of lingered there. We had ridden the ride at least twenty times beforehand and had not see it. It was not a typical disney ghost. It was a small glowing cloud of milky stuff that you could see through. My Husband said that it was a reflection from somewhere, but we never saw it again. Any thughts>

Probably not since we rode the ride several times over the next couple of days. And no one else commented on it either. Perhaps, in the final analysis, it was nothing more than a "grim-grinning ghost coming out to socialize!"

How very creepy-I would be interested in what it really was, too. DD and I love to tap on DH and DD in the other buggy as fun, but that is just scary that no one was in the doom buggy behind you!!!
