The Hat Has Left The Building

So the theater is now the iconic picture for DHS? Meh.

Wow - I had no idea they were getting rid of it. I was only there for New years. Glad I got my photos.

Why has it been removed?

It is nice to be able to see the Chinese Theater but I will miss the hat. Is it seriously being replaced for a stage?

I will miss the hat but that theater is spectacular - never had enough perspective to see it like this.

Oh, that isn't the picture of the actual theatre in HS - that's the one in 'real' Hollywood. Anyone have a good pic of the one in HS?

It seemed strange to me to take away the icon, but I have to admit that the view of the theater is so much nicer!

It was put there for the 100 Years celebration and was not designed to be a permanent structure -- they just decided to leave it up afterward instead of taking it down. The area it was in is very atmospheric otherwise, and the hat was always a big theme-breaker that took away from the illusion of the Hollywood streets. Also, it was getting rusty on the inside and generally looking run-down because again, not designed as a permanent structure.

I'd heard that they're planning to build a hideaway stage like they have in front of the castle at MK. They can pop it up for shows but have the area clear and usable outside of performance times. That sounds like a much better use of the space to me.

Fair enough - I'd forgotten it was only temporary.

I'll be interested to see how it all looks when I go in October :)

So that's the way it used to look. Cool. I've only ever seen it with the hat.

Wow, I don't think I have ever seen that view. I will miss the hat a little, but I agree, that is a much better view. It's much less "cluttered"

Ah the Chinese theater. So lovely to see it again. Can't wait for TCM inclustion into the attraction. Now Disney during the holidays please put back the Huge Christmas tree you used to display there.

Now THAT'S the way I remember it! (obviously I was not a hat fan!)
