Does anyone know if the guides and other DVC employees (such as the people who run the little booths all around the Disney parks and hotels) get MEGA deals on points? I ask because it seemed like every person we spoke to had hundreds and hundreds of points. Even the young woman who was working at the booth at the POR claimed to have a bunch of points and use them for stays all around the world. Our guide talked as though he could practically spend the entire year at Disney on points. Part of me wondered whether they were just told to tell people that they had a lot of points so that they would be viewed not only as employees, but also as satisfied customers.

My wife and I would actually like to retire to Disney - perhaps at a young age relative to other retirees - and I would love to work for DVC.

When I was a CM, the discount was 15%. Don't know if that's still the case, but it gave me some change off my VB points.

Do the guides..i mean the ones who actually do the tour and sell the points..have to be DVC members ??..I thought I read that they did but I could be wrong.:confused3

Our guide stated that we were "almost at the same number of points" that she had, at the last time we added on. Out of curiosity, I looked up her contracts shortly after (via Indian River County deeds search for VBR and Orange County deeds search for OKW) and found that we have more than she does.

I think guides like to embellish the tales they tell.

She could have HHI points as well.

Interesting, our guide said he owned 160 points.:confused3

Consider that if she is married, she may have contracts under her DH's name as well. DH and I have points that were purchased individually prior to our marriage, so if you were to look up the deeds, you will not only find some strictly under his name, but also strictly under my previous name prior to this marriage. So one can't always take the deed search at face value.

I've met several CM's working in the park kiosks who are not yet members, but are looking forward to purchasing. Generally, these are fairly new CM's that have just begun working the kiosks. I believe the people who work for DVC truly believe in the product they are selling and, thus, *want* to become members. Plus, I'm sure DVC probably encourages all their CM's to become members and wouldn't be surprised if DVC CM's get a better discount to help this become a reality.

DD is a CM and I was able to use that to get a discount on points. Interestingly, I called about an add on and just mentioned it in passing to my guide. She was the one who told me. DD had to drop off a copy of her CM ID prior to closing the deal. I'm sure the discount has fluctutated over the years from 15% to 25% and now back to 15% with the understanding that you can't resell them on the open market. My add on is the only discounted points I have.

I know my guide uses hers for vacations outside of the Orlando area with the occasional get together with family who come there for a visit.

Yep. It's important to remember that they are trying to sell you something. Disney's version are pretty reasonable, but all the same---they are selling timeshares.

Out of the same curiosity, I just went on the Orange County site and could not find my own information. I went on the Orange County Property Appraiser's Office site (www.ocpafl.org)...is this the correct site? I purchased 18 months ago so it should definitely be listed.

Thanks.

Alot of the Sales people are coming off other careers in which they made money to spare.....

that is somewhat apparent when you get their background information....

I know that the one we were given ran a business that made prosthetics.....

another girl i worked with....after a low paying entry level management job at WDW.....went and sold pharmaceuticals for at least a few years.....

The DVC sales people are very meticulously choosen.....image is everything when it comes to this.....

and while i'm sure they get the standard employee discount.....most appear to have no problems purchasing the product.....which is different from 99.9% of the other rank and files at WDW that either a. have a spouse with significantly larger income or b. have money from a retirement, savings, investments, inheritance....etc.

Remember....DVC is by no means a necessity and isn't cheap
