Why don't I often read about people staying in the 80's or 90's section?

I was thinking that the section closer to the parking lot would be closer to the buses? Am I way off here?:confused3
We stayed in the 80's last December...I did not think it was particularly far from the bus stops if you cut through the parking lot :idea:

What kind of tea do they have at the food court? I'm a huge green tea drinker and don't know if I should bring my own or if they'll have it there. :confused:

Don't know about the food courts, but I can tell you each restaurant that we requested green tea brought out lipton bag green tea. This time I'll be bringing my own good green tea and asking for hot water, lol.

I'm an admitted Tazo snob. Looks like I'll be stashing some in my suitcase. Thanks for the heads up!

They have Twinings teas - I know they had an English Breakfast (can't remember if it was regular or decaf), but I'm not sure about green tea.

We were in Disney and on the Magic in October 2007. I remember the strollers being only around $40.

I've seen a bit of discussion about this lately, so with regard to the questions about which building is closer to the buses, there are a few different factors to consider.

First, remember that for most buildings, you will enter Classic Hall and then out to the buses in front. For the 80s/90s section, you can cut across the parking lot, making it a shorter trip.

I've found that it's fun, though, to be able to go through Classic Hall. I'm weird like that ;)

You also have to consider that even though one building may seem closer to the buses or Classic Hall, your location within that building can make a significant difference in the distance you must travel.

But anyway, here's a little map that I've drawn up using the overview map from post #1 with some "point A to the buses" distances based on the rough distance from a central location in each decade, and what would be the quickest path to the bus loading area. If you're farther or closer to the buses than the "center point" that I measured from, just add a bit or subtract a bit from the total.

80s/90s = 945 feet
70s = 950 feet
50s = 980 feet
60s = 840 feet

As you can see from the numbers, the distance from the center of any of the decades is pretty much the same, using the routes I've placed on the map. The 60s is slightly shorter from the other side of the Hippy Dippy pool, but for the rest of the decades, the "center" has the same walk to the buses regardless of which one you're in.

Of course there are places within each decade where the distance is significantly longer or shorter, so keep that in mind when requesting rooms or choosing your path to walk to the buses or Classic Hall. For example, if you're in the 90s, you may be able to cut straight across the parking lot cutting off a lot of distance.

Don't forget that the elevators of each building are located at the cross of the "T" shape where the wings all meet. Keep that in mind when choosing your route if you always use the elevators. The staircases are located next to the elevators, as well as at the very end of each wing, for a total of 4 staircases to each building.

Also remember that generally speaking, it can be difficult or impossible to stray off the marked sidewalks on the map. There are usually trees, bushes, and other obstacles that make cutting across the green-marked areas on the map very difficult. So basically, if you want to use the map to plan your route, make sure you take into account that you'll probably have to follow the tan colored paths.

Just as an example, you might be thinking that you could just cut across the grass near this 50s building as a shortcut (the red path illustrated below). Unfortunately, there's a berm with trees there, and you just can't get through that way. You might even be tempted to follow the blue path, and then cut across the bus traffic to the bus stop. While you can technically do that, it turns out that not only is it exactly the same distance as the green path that I recommend taking, but it also cuts across some of the bus traffic, as there is no walkway cutting across that area. If you wanted to follow the path around (the skinnier blue path) that would be an extra 300 feet out of your way vs. just taking the green path. Most of that would probably be fairly obvious once you're there, you might not realize that when you're making your room requests, and end up requesting a room location that's not as short of a distance to the buses as you though. So basically these are just things to keep in mind not only once you're there, but as you're making room location requests.

If anyone wants to know the exact optimal path to take from a specific location in a specific building, just let me know! I'd be happy to calculate some distances for a couple different paths, and let you know what would be the easiest or quickest way to the buses.

Wow Simba77, you rock. That is awesome. Who knew the 50's is actually the farthest? I'm with you, I want to go inside Classic Hall to see the 'action', shop for all the cool stuff, and refil my mug.:thumbsup2

Simba77 that is awesome. We stayed in 60's. Our room was on the back side, 4th floor, by the green yo-yo. And you are right about the extra walking to get to Classic Hall. The kids always went down the yo-yo and we had to take the elevator because my mom has a scooter. It took us several more minutes to get to them.

I am a little concerned about the posts I have read recently about bags from Magical Express not getting delivered in a timely fashion at POP or going missing. For those that have been recently, does it seem to be a temporary glitch or a problem that is likely to continue? We leave in about 5 weeks - should I consider booking our own transportation to avoid this problem? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

I am a bit confused. When we were there last Aug., we used the ME, but we retrieved our own luggage, went downstairs checked in and loaded up our luggage. Maybe this had to do with the airline we used (Spirit Air) I don't know. If this was the case then maybe thats the best way to go, so you don't have that worried feeling about wether or not your luggage will be there when you arrive. We are using Continental this time, but I may still collect our luggage, just to play it safe. Cya all in Dec.

Thats what we did last month...few extra steps are worth the peace of mind to have you stuff! :thumbsup2

We just returned from our trip in Sept. Our bags were at our room about 20 min. after we checked in. We arrived at MCO at 12:30pm and had our luggage by 2:00pm.

I know that if there's a storm or something at the airport it may take awhile for the bags to arrive. The airport will not let the workers on the tarmac if there is lightning.

We have had 2 good experiences with ME delivering our bags.

I probably should have put some more info. We have used ME with luggage delivery twice before with no issues. I have read some recent posts with issues at POP with ME luggage delivery that has me concerned. Waiting for our luggage and loading it on ME ourselves is probably not an option for us this trip due to timing. We arrive at MCO at 1pm and have a 4pm ADR at Coral Reef. I am already worried about getting from MCO to POP to Epcot in a timely manner and don't think I should add in waiting for our own bags.

I was hoping recent visitors could shed some light on whether these were a few isolated incidents or if ME delivery of luggage to POP is going through some issues right now and I might want to consider other options.

Thanks!

We haven't had any problems with ME. We have always flown spirit air for all our trips. Luggage shows up without a problem.

We were there In April and were In the 50's Bldg and were on the top floor facing the Bowling pin pool(non peffered). I was wondering If we asked for the ground floor rooms In the (do not know:confused3 )Bldgs that suround and face the Main pool thats by the bevereage bar. Is this worth getting?:confused: Wow thats a long question:rotfl2: thanks:wave2:

Sounds like you mean the 60's preferred building. It is worth if you like to be in that area - but never any guarantee, of course. ;)

There are several parking lots at the resort. But the 80's 90's section is the only onbe close to the buses. But I like alot of others really like going throguh Classic hall to get to the busses too. The one year were were in the 70's, back towards the lake, almost as far back as you can get, and it was fastest for us to get to the buses by walking all the way up along the 70's and then cut around the parking lot sidewalk to the buses. We would've been back tracking if we went through Classic Hall. It sounds like we were about the spot you were Buckeye Gal, only were were first floor. what section had you requested?

Really? They used to be about $40. When I was there in May I was on the bus one afternoon and it was just my DD & I, an other mom and her DD and a couple and their DD. The couple was saying they had wished they brought a stroller and the other mom said she was leaving early the next morning and she would sell them her stroller (the black/red one she bought at the gift shop) for $20.

I have read they were 40 too. Just umbrella type though.

You don't need to make your own travel arrangements. Just don't put the ME tags on them and then grab your own luggage from the baggage claim and then take them to the bus yourself and they will go with you to the resort. You just need to tip the driver then for handling them.

I was one with luggage that went missing for about 24 hours. Personally, if I use ME again I would just leave off the yellow tags and pick my luggage up myself especially if getting in late again like we did. Who knows maybe the graveyard shift for ME had all the newbies there is no telling. My luggage was delivered to the wrong resort. I also had my case of water that I checked in to the luggage deparment at pop go missing as well. So two different departments ME and Pop luggage service. I did hear rumor that they had a lot of turnover of employees after Labor day this year which is when I went so that may have been the problem. I can tell you that the other 3 times I have used ME I have never had anything go missing just our September 08 trip.

HTH

I forgot to say we stayed at POP Sept 4-11th and had no problems with luggage. We also were a part of a fridge swap and things went quite smoothly. The fridge is still in circulation.
