If you request a preferred room, do they charge you extra for it? My plan is already pay for. And do you usually get what you request? My DH has a bad knee, and I would love nothing more than to be close to Classic Hall and the bus stop. That way we could have less complaining!! When do I request my preferrence, do I call now or wait unitl we get there on 10-13?
I would definitely call beforehand (and again when you arrive, just to be sure). A couple of weeks before my trip last year, I injured my foot. I called Disney, told them the situation, and they gave me a handicap access room that was near the transportation system. Of course, I was there during low season (1st week of December) so they probably had more availability to accomodate me, but I found they were happy to do so.

Hi Poppers!

Last time DD and I stayed in the 60's facing the lake, loved this area. She is now into the "80's"..yeah, the joke is on me as that was my "era"...lol its bad enough they had "80's" day at school....

So, excuse me for not searching through this whole great thread...does anyone have any tips/info about the 80's section at POP? Did anyone like it? I always hear about 50's, 60's and 70's....not too much 80's:)
Thanks:)

Hi,
Thanks for the information, but tell me did they charge you more for the change in the accomodations? He really does not want a handicap room just something closer to the food court and the bus stops. He will be bringing his knee brace with him. I guess I just need to call the people I went through for my reservations and ask a few questions!!

Thanks again

Just got back from Pop yesterday. Last three years we have stayed on the first floor in the 80's or 90's closest to Classic Hall. That's even closer to the bus stops than the preferred rooms. It was awesome...especially at the end of a long day. Plus, no extra cost!

Hi. This will be our first stay at the POP. Does anyone know if they do any Halloween events?

Last year on Halloween, they had a HUGE party outside going from the 60's pool, all the way to the bridge. There were treats, towel animals, music, games, a dance contest, a hula-hoop contest, and an appearance by Goofy, dressed for Halloween. It was a major blast, and gave us enough time to hit DTD for trick or treating there too.

No, they didn't charge me extra, but it happened last minute, pretty close to my trip. Don't know if it would be any different if you asked for it well in advance.

I agree! Call them & ask. Best way to find out for sure :thumbsup2

Hi everybody! Just back from another great trip! :thumbsup2 POP was wonderful - as always. Thought I'd share a little info.

We decided to change our room request at the last minute (had paid for preferred 60s poolside and decided we'd rather have quiet) and still had no problem getting exactly what I asked for - 70s, lakeside, top floor! Great location if you prefer a little quieter with a nice view. (Altho being able to see those empty, wasted legendary years buildings was a little sad to me. Geez, Disney, do something with them or tear them down!;) )

Weather was perfect! I've never been in September and had fears of heat .

I also enjoyed the Petals Pool Bar drinks. I know some have mentioned that they are pricey, but I find the prices comparable to other Disney restaurants and even the chain restaurants here at home. I love those slushie drinks and allow a little room in my budget to indulge on just a couple. (We love the Hippy Dippy at night!) The Mango Margarita was delish and this time I tried some kind of new Raspberry slush that was yummy! DGD13 loves those frozen sour apple drinks. Oh, BTW, the frozen coke machine at the food court was working every time we were there. :)

Mousekeeping was great. Our room was spotless (and yes I checked very closely). We asked for privacy one day (wanted to nap before MNSSHP) and they left us a bag of fresh towels. We did get a cute little towel puppy that she kept moving around the room all week. :dance3:

New mattresses are COMFY! Not too soft, not too hard.

My one complaint: Luggage Services. POP needs to do a lot of work on this one - A LOT! I fully understand that I may not get my luggage for up to 5 hours after check-in so I always bring a carry-on for things we need right away. But this was crazy! Long lines, luggage lost or delivered to the wrong rooms, mass confusion - just a real mess at arrival and departure for us. :sad2: Such a "less-than-magical" experience for us, that as much as I love the convenience of ME, next time I'm considering just allowing room in the budget for a town car from the airport - and keeping our luggage with us at all times!

Such a great trip for such a great value. Learned so much from this thread to make our stay so magical. Thanx everyone!

Glad they credited you. I had wondered that.
The luggage thing must me a new problem as in the past there has been very few complaints

I know I asked in a round about way. If I were to take a cab to/from WWoS, what would the cost be. Does anyone know or have an idea. I really do not want to rent a car if I don't have to. By renting a car, when I go to return it, it cuts into my time that I have left for my final day by going to the airport earlier then I need to etc.

I would guess about 5-10 per way at least. You might be better off getting a car. You can get them for very cheap usually. Look for codes and you can get one for as cheap as 20 a day.
Dropping off a car takes no time at all.

You may pay an additional $10/night for a microwave.
No microwaves available for rent. Nor is there coffe makers for rent or in the rooms.

Exactly who do I call? My reservations we made through Disney. So, do I call them back or do I call the Pop Century with my confirmation number and ask them to up grade? Thanks for all you your help. The answers I have read through these forums have helped more than you know.

Thanks Again!

Call who you made your reservations with

Is there a microwave that you can use in the food court?

Yes

80's is further out from most stuff, but cutting across the parking lot it is pretty close to the buses.

I asked about getting to Sea World from Pop and someone suggested to take the bust to the ticket & info center and then take the city bus it cost about 5.00 versus a taxi for 20? Has anyone ever done that?!

I know there are ways to get there, but don't know how or the cost. I have heard it is kind of a pain as you have to be there at a certain time and leave at certain time, so if you want to leave earlier or later you can't. :confused3

Anybody in particular's bust? Or any bust that comes along?:lmao: :lmao:

I need help:confused: We are Planning on Being In DW June 28th to the 12 of July(two weeks) and It looks more and more like we will be at POP. Here Is my Problem, we stay at POP this past April and like it for what we use it for SLEEP.Last year we stay at POR and used It for the very same thing, but me and my DS(15yo) love It:love: so much more and I keep on going back and fourth between the two, wich one to pick. I can not tell you why eather?:confused3 :rotfl: It could be It was our frist WDW resort we stay in:sad2: but I keep on trying to see how to strap my self so we can stay at POR:rotfl2: . POP was nice and we enjoy It so that will probally be our choice I guess I just ned some one to say I ammaking the right choice LOL:happytv: .Thanks for LIstening:)

Thanks for the comments jenseib and DisneyDeeva:)
May have to tell DD since I was born in the 60's, thats where we stay again! LOL
The pool area is so nice there, I love the palm trees, has more landscaping than the "hardscaping"...I didnt make any requests yet as I may just do preferred. May not be as fortunate as last time w/Building 4 lakeside.

We got a cab to Seaworld last year I think it cost around $25 for 5 of us but we could come and leave when we wanted as opposed to a bus (or bust) schedule !! I think the extra money is worth it rather than all the transfers and time schedules !!

I agree. Plus, the bus is most likely $5/per person

We will be at the Pop Century for 3 weeks this November. Our DD will have just turned 5 yrs and although we do not use any kind of pushchair at home, we have decided to buy one to use during our trip. We intend buying a cheap pushchair/stroller when we arrive in Florida.
I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a Wall-Mart close to the Pop. I have been on the web site but i'm not sure which one is closest and easiest to find.

That's easy. We have stayed at POP several times, but just got back from PORS Sept 6th-14th. While PORS was beautiful and relaxing the bus service was terrible this trip. We have no desire to go back. We would have preferred POP or one of the All Stars. We have stayed at POP multiple times, AS Sports twice, POFQ twice, AS Music, CBR, CSR, Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Boardwalk. PORS ranks behind only CBR, as far as transportation goes.

Since you have stayed at both POP and PORS, have you considered staying at a different resort? You're son might like AS Sports. Oops, I forgot this was a POP thread.:flower3: POP is great, fun, lively, bustling, and I love the music that plays everywhere. Having only one bus stop is geat too. POP is also the only resort to have the frozen slushies, which we love. Or maybe, you could do a split stay. Stay the first week when you'll be staying at the parks more at POP, then move to PORS for the second week, when you'll have more time to relax and really enjoy the resort. Switching resorts is easy. Disney will move your bags for you. All you have to do is pack up, call them, leave the bags in the room, go to your other resort, and check in. When you get back that night to your new resort, call luggage services to deliver your bags. I've done it several times both as a family and as a solo traveler. That way, you feel like you are getting two vacations in one.
