The following has been posted on AllEars:

"Classic Concoctions, the bar/lounge area in the lobby of Pop Century, officially closed on May 6. It will be converted to the Package Pickup area for guests sending items from the parks and some of the hotels. It is set to open on July 26 (2008)."

Oh no DS is going to be so upset when he can't get his ice cream sunday. :scared1: Oh well I won't tell him I know and let him find out when we get there. There are always Mickey bars to appease him. Thanks for posting that info.

I am so glad I found this thread! We have 4 children have been debating staying off-site or staying in two rooms at Pop and I think we have settled on Pop. After reading this thread I am even more sure that it is the right choice!

When making our reservation, I want to let the CM know the order of priority for our room requests, but I keep going back and forth on what's most important. I also don't want to give them a long list of requests, as it might be a turn-off to the room assigner. Can some of you Pop experts help with which would be best to place as our top priority, please?

Here is what I would like:
King room (std. bath would be preferred) connected to std. room
Lake view
Quiet room - 3rd or 4th floor (for napping children during the day)
Relatively close to Classic Hall
I think something in the 50's 60's or 70's would be fine - no preference on building.

I just feel like that is too much to ask for - any opinions?

We just got back from our stay at POP. We stayed 5 nights and were in the 70's building on the 2nd floor in front of the Big Wheel. It was a great location. This hotel was perfect for our family! We are heading back in October.
The pools were great, especially the kiddie pool! Very cool. My 2 year old raced in the Big Wheel race and was so happy to get the little bead necklace with the trophy! :goodvibes
She also was given a free tinkerbell pin when we were going through the food checkout as a "dream" in the year of a million dreams. I didn't know that carried over into the resorts...how cool!

Mousekeeping was awesome! We didn't get any towel animals, but she did arrange the stuffed animals into funny situations each day. We found them all wearing sunglasses, watching TV, hanging in the curtains.. it was hilarious. The kids looked forward to seeing what the stuffed animals were doing everyday.

The food was good. I loved the slushie machines! The coffee was BAD. LOL

One thing that I thought was very odd is that there are bunnies everywhere! I'm saying, they were like squirrels there were so many. Everywhere I looked, there were bunnies! ?? Strange.

We had a great trip and POP was wonderful!

Thanks for the good report! Two weeks from today we'll be there!

I just came over to post about the Classic Concoctions news too. I'm bummed...it was a nice, quiet (er) area to sit and have a drink and for the kids to enjoy dessert.

Is classic concotions just the bar area, or does that include the place that had the cookies and sandwiches and ice cream?

I just got back from a 3 night 4 day stay at POP yesterday. Wow I was nicely suprised by the resort. I went in with so-so expectations and was nicely suprised.

My room was on the 4th floor of the 50's building looking over some trees with the parking lot hid quite well. The room itself was a normal room with 2 beds in it - nothing spectacular. The beds were comfy. The room was comfortable for me (as this was a solo trip). I did find a soft pretzel in a sandwich bag on the floor of the room in between the bed and the night table. Mousekeeping missed it. The towels were not scratchy like I have read and neither were the sheets. They were fine.

My room was ready by 11am when I checked in. At the check in desk the CM that helped me was suprised that only 1 person was checking in and made it very clear that was "wierd". Oh well!!!

As far as my room being far away - I thought it was a quick walk to the main building. I took the stairs many times instead of the elevator. I liked the layout and I had originally requested a stay in the 60's buildings but I was glad I got the 50's instead. The resort didn't feel like it was busy and I found that funny. I know a lot of people were there but it didn't feel like it. I really liked that. At night I felt safe walking around. I was worried about that being alone but I felt very safe.

The store was very nice and big. I toured some of the other resorts while I was there and I thought out of the resorts I went to the POP store was the best. The food court was fine as well. I tried the chicken penne alfredo and that was good. I never ate breakfast there (not a breakfast gal). The pools were clean.

All in all I liked it. One thing that stunk was it took over 7 hours for my luggage to get to my room after I checked in. That took me by suprise.
I also think that the themeing is so great on the outside that they should bring some of that to the inside of the rooms. They were just plain.
Oh yea - I did hear the toilets flushing and I did hear the water turn on for the showers as well. I did have hot water all the time I was there. I know that these are things that people have mentioned in the past.

Would I stay here again? Probably. I think I would like to upgrade to a moderate and try that next time just to see. I thought the grounds of the POFQ looked beautiful but I know they don't fit families of 5 there. Too bad!!!

Excellent, informative review..thanks I still have about 11 weeks until I go :(
Cant wait until then, what did you think of the bus service if you used it at all?

I thought the bus service was quick. To get on to go to a park I waited less than 5 mins. To come home from the MK on Saturday night (I left a few minutes before the fireworks started) there was a huge line for POP - actually POP had the largest line out of all of the resorts there and I thought - oh geesh I am going to be here forever but again I was suprised - 2 busses pulled up and they loaded them both up. I wanted to wait til the next ones cuz I didn't want to stand, but I took it and stood anyway. So I guess I was lucky to some degree.

I road all of the transportation this weekend. I took the boats from DTD to POFQ and Riverside. Something really gross happened to me on the boat though - there was a lady that sat behind me on the boat and she sneezed. I assumed she covered her mouth like most people do or sneezed by putting her head down or something or turn away SOMETHING but she didn't she sneezed into my hair. I didn't know this until a few minutes after she sneezed and I put my hand to the back of my hair to straighten it out and YUCK it was wet!!!! I pulled out a kleenex to wipe my hair and she never said anything to me. How RUDE! It takes all kinds...

Anyway sorry of going off topic there!

Busses were fine. I found it funny that you can tell that POP is a value resort because there isn't any covering over their bus lines for waiting. The other resorts have covered waiting queues. Also POP waiting queues seemed to be far (it was the last one at the MK park). At the end of a long day walking just that much further might put someone over the edge!

Hope your trip is fun - POP was a nice place to visit and I would go back there. I have a family of 5 and I would have to book 2 rooms and that would be nice because it gives you that much more room. Putting a fridge in there does take up some floor space if you are going to be getting in on a fridge swap. Also the door to the room comes really close to the bed (like inches)and touching it cuz the door is on an angle. I didn't care for that too much - but the beds don't move so just be aware.

Thanks,

First off so soory about what happened to you on the boat ride, that was completly and total disgusting, again really soory to hear that.....

I am looking foward to staying at POP, and even though its a value resort I feel it deservse a bus covering like all the other resorts, having stayed at ASMO for all previous visits I am accustomed to the extra walking required to get into the bus line but you are right at times that little extre distance seems like walking to another planet after a day in the parks.....

you were very helpful.

I have stayed at Pop twice, once with the family and once solo. No one said anything to me about being solo or that it was strange as it definately is NOT!! I love Pop I feel save there and have fond teh staff to be helpful and friendly. I love the gift shop and the food court. I too have visited other resorts but I feel like I'm home at Pop. I don't need anything more than Pop offers . My grandkide LOVED it there .

i've stayed at Pop several times - twice solo - and have loved it every time!

DH is real picky, but even he had little to complain about - had a room in 50s building, top floor, overlooking lake/unfinished legendary years

very quiet there - not far to walk either - looking forward to going back for christmas season this trip!

The one thing we didn't get at All Stars Movies was towel animals or the stuffed animals set up in funny poses. I - er, that is, my daughter - was a little disappointed.

Bunnies, eh? I'm assuming not the Playboy kind?

:rotfl:
Rabbits, everywhere. It was very odd.

a82allison, since I am a country gal I can tell you that if there is one thing that bunnies know how to do it is make MORE bunnies and without a lot of natural predators around and plenty of food and water there it is to be expected that there would be bunnies, lots and lots of 'em!!:rotfl:

Slightly Goofy

We always see lots of bunnies at any resort we stay at or visit...so much fun for the kids...okay, okay...and the adults too! :lmao: Keep an eye out for the little lizards too...they are everywhere as well.
