Such a "less-than-magical" experience for us, that as much as I love the convenience of ME, next time I'm considering just allowing room in the budget for a town car from the airport - and keeping our luggage with us at all times!

FYI, our last two trips we did not use the ME luggage tags and just took our bags with us on the Magical Express bus, no problems. We tipped the guy a few bucks for putting the luggage in and out of the bus for us. So, you can still use ME and keep your luggage with you. Just an option........

Glad you had a great trip!

My one complaint: Luggage Services. POP needs to do a lot of work on this one - A LOT! I fully understand that I may not get my luggage for up to 5 hours after check-in so I always bring a carry-on for things we need right away. But this was crazy! Long lines, luggage lost or delivered to the wrong rooms, mass confusion - just a real mess at arrival and departure for us. :sad2: Such a "less-than-magical" experience for us, that as much as I love the convenience of ME, next time I'm considering just allowing room in the budget for a town car from the airport - and keeping our luggage with us at all times!

With you completely on the luggage issues. Posted my problem on this thread when we returned. DH had to go retrieve the luggage upon arrival because they never brought it to us. Then even though we checked our luggage in well before required when leaving, our luggage did not make it home with us on our plane. We did not get our luggage until over 24 hours of being home. At one point they had completely lost one bag. We will not ever be using that service again.:sad2:

All these recent horror stories are making me start to panic about using ME. I'm thinking it may be better to just spend the $60 plus tip and hire a town car.

Did you do this at Pop or before you arrived and did they credit you the difference?

We didn't ask to be moved until we checked in! I was amazed that they were actually able to find us a room that we actually LOVED. And, yes, they did credit me the difference. I think they had a lot of people asking for preferred tho.

I was just wondering if you had a picture of the cake you had made?! I am trying to decide to get on at the place we eat or POp and how early did you call to order it?!

Got your pm, but thought I'd go ahead and post links to cake photos here in case anyone else is interested.

The info is on the first page. Direct line is 407-938-3070. We just ordered the 6 inch vanilla since it was just the two of us this trip. It's also available in chocolate if you prefer. You can get Disney decorations on the larger cakes if you'd like. We did get the cute little icing Mickey heads on the side of our 6 inch cake. Yummy - really creamy icing, moist cake and great real vanilla flavor. It's definitely a freshly-baked cake, not frozen. We loved having it in our room instead of at a restaurant. We weren't so full from dinner and could really enjoy it. And it was kind of a special surprise when we got back to our room from the park.

Thanks for your reply. We booked through AAA with a preferred room but after looking over the map, my DH likes some other areas and I was curious if we asked when we checked if they would refund us or not.

I LOVE that cake! I'm thinking of ordering one now for DS on our first night if we aren't too stuffed from dinner.

web savy people & pop fans. need someone to contact me via pm. have an idea

I know I asked in a round about way. If I were to take a cab to/from WWoS, what would the cost be. Does anyone know or have an idea. I really do not want to rent a car if I don't have to. By renting a car, when I go to return it, it cuts into my time that I have left for my final day by going to the airport earlier then I need to etc.

and I like my cake...don't have a special occasion planned for our next visit but will keep this in mind (sounds better than most of the cakes I have heard about available @TS restaurants!) Thanks for sharing! :thumbsup2

I've got a few questions for all you POP experts! We're going to be staying at POP for our first Disney adventure as a family, including our 4 children and my mom in January. We don't want to pay for a preferred room, but I'm wondering where to request. And how specific can you make your requests?

I think I've settled on the 70s buildings for theme purposes. It just looks like so much fun and since Scot and I were born in the 70s, I think it's the most interesting to us. I read on the first page that there is a playground, so we'd love close access to the playground. We'd also like to be as close to the Classic Hall as possible in a standard. We don't much care about noise level, etc. Would you suggest requesting ground floor?

Got any recommendations for us? I'm feeling overwhelmed just looking at the map!:scared: :lmao:

Yay! Have fun!

You can make your requests quite specific. I would ask for exactly what you're looking for.

The rooms that are closest to the playground, are unfortunately mostly the preferred rooms. You can see on this overhead view, the playground is the small square shaped area with the blue/tan in the lower right hand corner: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=24451290&postcount=1246

Based off of that, you can get an idea of the layout of the 70s buildings, and where you might want to be to be close to the playground area. The rooms with the yellow strip are the preferred rooms.

For what you want, an example of your requests would look like this:

-70s section
-close as possible to Classic Hall
-close to the playground area

and then if you're looking for a particular floor.

If you're not near the elevators, it can be a pain to be on the 3rd or 4th floor as you have to go up the stairs every time or else walk to the elevators and then potentially all the way back down the hall to your room, but we liked the 3rd floor in the 50s section for the awesome view of the pool.

Personally, we loved the 50s section the best, for the proximity to the bowling pin pool, as well as most of the rooms being reasonably close to Classic hall. Plus we all liked the 50s music and the 50s themeing the most.

:thumbsup2

DDlikes 60's as it is close to Classic Hall and Pool. When I am solo I like 1st floor , but usually the family wants higher up as they don't want people walking by!!In May for my solo trip I requested 60's or 70's 1st floor and standard ! 70's I think is closer for buses and is close to Classic Hall !!

We were on the ground floor of the 70's building last month (september 2008) and had no issues with noise outside our room! :thumbsup2

If you request a preferred room, do they charge you extra for it? My plan is already pay for. And do you usually get what you request? My DH has a bad knee, and I would love nothing more than to be close to Classic Hall and the bus stop. That way we could have less complaining!! When do I request my preferrence, do I call now or wait unitl we get there on 10-13?

Thanks for all your help!!

Have it noted on your reservation ASAP. Perhaps you will get special consideration if you mention you DH medical condition :confused3
You can follow up with a fax 3-5 days before you arrive :surfweb:

The premium rooms do cost extra. If you are already paid in full you can still call and upgrade your room. I would do it now just to avoid disappointment when you arrive.

Have a great trip! :thumbsup2

I read through page 1 and just wanted to confirm.... Am I correct in saying that there is NO microwave in the rooms at the POP? Just wondering... thanks!

I didn't see this mentioned on the first page. I was wondering if the rooms at POP have the radio that you can dock your Ipod on. If so, are they in all of the rooms now, or just some of them? I thought I saw this mentioned once before, but I can't find the thread now.
