I also like the idea of the plug in cooler. I hate the mess of the water ones! I'm not sure we would have enough room in the car for one though. I'll have to talk to DH about it. A lot of times we stop at Wal-mart when we get there and get a styrofoam one and throw it away at the end of the stay.

Hey anyone arriving 7/30 or 7/31 that would need some plastic hangers? I will be leaving that day from POP and we will most likely be bying some hangers from wal-mart like last year and we left them last year.

Would love to see someone get to use them.

For all of you experienced WDW & POP Century people, can you please help me with the following:....
shuttergirl,

check out ourlaughingplace. they have a transportation calculator. There's even an app for your iphone if you have one!...

I agree that OurLaughingPlace is a great resource! Also check out Post #2, it has answers to your questions and much more in relation to transportation.

Happy planning!!

Since we are buying dh beverages from garden grocer I looked up cooler and they have a styrofoam one for around 6.00. It says it holds up to 2 gallons of milk or 12 pack. That is what we really need it for. So no renting a fridge. Yeah!!!

Oh no! I didn't mean to worry anyone - we allergy folks have enough to worry about:grouphug:. There has been some discussions on the disabilities DIS board as well as some other allergy boards I read and it seems like people vary quite a bit in what they do.

It seemed like people who knew they would be in and out of the sun just carried it as they normally did. Others carried it in an insulated lunch bag or baby bottle holder with or without a cold pack. People seemed to use the cold pack when they knew they would be out in the HOT sun for a long period of time either at a beach or water park, etc.

I hope that helps! This discussion has helped me. I have decided not to "sweat" (pun intended:rotfl2:) not having a fridge at Pop and just making do with a cooler that we either buy from a grocery service or bring on the airplane with us.

Thanks again DISers for the useful dialogue.

From a person who has food allergies I am impressed on the way that all the resturants have helped. When my husband made the ressies he told them that I had food allergies and to what foods. Almost every resturant the Chef will come out to the table and go over the menu and show us what I can eat. I think that as big as Disney is they can help, but our local McDonalds refuses to help.

Thanks for the link to Laughing Place. That's a great calculator and I've downloaded the Iphone app, how exciting.

We just returned from our split stay at Pop and OKW. If I had it to do over, we would stay all 8 nights at Pop! We had a rehabbed room in building 10 on the 4th floor. We used to bookend our trips with Pop, but in the last few years had been staying at ASMu. However, we are now back to being Pop-pers! Any questions?

If I buy one of those $6 styrofoam coolers from Garden Grocers, where would I get the ice from? Is there ice machines in each building or do you need to go to the main buildings?

If I remeber correctly there is a ice machine on every floor and vending machines. Or maybe I just got lucky last year and happened to be on the floor where the ice machines were located.

Dh said we are going to try the cooler and if that don't work we will get a fridge. But he thinks it will be fine.

Maybe someone knows for sure.

I would definitely prefer to give the cooler a try. I think $10 a day for a fridge is a little expensive over 11 days. I could buy alot of cold drinks with that.

For all of you experienced WDW & POP Century people, can you please help me with the following:-

1. Is there a direct bus from POP to each of the parks?
One of the reasons we chose Pop on our last 2 stays was b/c it is the only value resort that doesn't share busses w/ another resort. That saves time.

I love, Love, LOVE you guys!!!! You have given me such great ideas, and made me think of things I NEVER would have thought of! For instance, I also thought it would be nice to keep some milk and cold drinks in the room, but didn't want to rent a fridge or bother attempting to bring a cooler on the plane. But I NEVER even considered one of those styrafoam coolers from the grocery store. We are fortunate to have access to a family member with a car while we're there, so I figured after I check in I'll get a ride to the grocery store to stock up on some snacks and drinks, but now I can get some cereal and milk too because I can get a disposable cooler and put ice in it! :cool1: I'm not usually the "disposable" type, but for occasional instances like this it's sometimes necessary. ;) Thanks to everyone for always being so full of wisdom, advice and GREAT ideas!!!!! :woohoo:

We will be there 10 days so it will add up. I was just on another thread about fridges and someone said they were 15.00 a day know.

Our TA recommended a pop-up cooler that can fit easily in your luggage. She said to fill it with ice from the hotel and keep it in the bathtub when we weren't using the bath. I would have gone that route, but we used the fridge swaps on here the last 2 times we stayed at Pop and it worked great. We just had bell services bring it up to our room.

Amen on that one! WDW is my ds11's (Wheat sensitive and peanut/treenut allergic) favorite place to eat!

I am betting if you took the empty cooler over to the pool area or a common place and asked, someone would take it and use it...Then it wouldn't be so disposable. We have done that in the past on beach vacations and people are usually very thankful to get it. Make someone else's day.

I am doing the countdown to the POP too! :) Staying there again and bringing my sister's family.

One thing that I recommended to her - we are driving - is bring a bigger wastebasket and liners. Those little ones are a pain if you tend to take meals in the room. This is good if you drive and have space (I have too much space in my trunk).

Sending her the link to this post so she can read up!:cool1:

I agree. We are vegetarian, and DH's fave part is the dining. :laughing:There are more options for people with different meal requirements here than anywhere else (I have also travelled with my diabetic dad). The chefs always have walked us through menu items or through the buffets and been very cognisant of any by-products we can't eat. We have also received specially prepared dishes--the best meal we ever had was made for us by a chef at Boma AFTER I had already told him there was more selection for us there than any restaurant we have been to before. :lovestruc My bff whose son has multiple food allergies has always been really happy with their experiences, too.

Hi - Ice is easy to get. My husband and DS12 have always made an evening treck to get it once we get back to the hotel. He get's it even if we don't have a cooler, for his soda.

From Page 1 of this thread:

ice buckets and disposable plastic cups are in your guest room
ice machine available on each floor behind the building’s elevators
soda and snack vending machines are located near the ice machines on the first floor only of each building
