Oh wow Melanie....you were there with all the cheerleaders ! I was at POP the same time, but a friend and coworker was at ALL Star Sports for the cheerleading competitions. They were there 3/19 to 3/24. There were LOTS of them !!! We left the MK on 3/20 around 3 pm because of them....it was too much for us......:rotfl:

Yeah - My DD17 cheered at the Milk House at the Wide World of Sports on Saturday and Sunday. There were a lot of cheerleaders, but we did have fun. They seemed to put all of us in the far back corner of the property which was good. It was close to the Celebrity Hall which is used for groups. We arrived on 3/20 and didn't go to MK until very late at night. I didn't really notice the cheerleaders much at the parks. Our group was mostly split up most of the time, but boy is it hard traveling with others, lol. It really makes you realize how much fun it is traveling with your family who likes the same things you do. DD17 said this several times. I had to laugh though, on the plane to Florida the girls clapped when we took off and then did a cheer when we landed. I think the plane must have thought we were nuts. They were quiet on the return flights - everyone was exhausted. They did place 2nd out of 11 in their division. They did great!

Congrats to them .....I know my friend/coworker said her dd won something too. She posted it to my Facebook but I can't remember.

It's good u didn't notice too many in the parks. But we noticed on Sat around 3 pm they came in and were in large groups all over. Waits for rides became 90 min.......we just had to leave. Maybe it was just the MK that day. That was the only park that stayed open late that night and they extended it from 11 pm to midnight. Probably because of the extra crowds. But we left Sunday so not sure how the parks were after then.

Ok....just checked my FB and here's what my friend said :
Hey everyone. My daughter got 1st place in her individual and her team got 2nd out of 9. It was a great competion! All the teams were really good. It was so much fun.

Glad everyone had fun. Seems there are many times cheerleaders come to WDW ? I was there in early Dec and they were there. And again in early Feb and they were there ? Lots of competitions I guess ? Do you know if anything is going on in early May with cheerleading ?

I have decided to rent a car for my upcoming trip to the Pop. I would love to fax the resort with a room request that is close to the parking lot but also has a view of the lake. Any suggestions???

Lake View 50's & 70's are both close to parking lots. This is where we try to stay for that reason. 70's is slightly back from the parking area but its near the lake view. I prefer this area the best, but 50's is cool with the pool. The 80's is close to parking lot but not facing the lake.

If you look at the map in post #1, It looks like the only two options that fit both are either the far back side of the 50s Jukebox bldg (been there, very nice and quiet) and the far back side of the 80s bldg (might be a little louder due to the highway.)

Put "Close to the parking lot and hourglass lake" in your request. They'll figure it out!

I called back yesterday to add my request "Closest to Classis Hall and Parking Lot" and the guy was confused and said "Don't you mean preferred? Do you want to change to preferred?"
Um, NO. I want my standard room to be "Closest to Classic Hall and the parking lot" that it can be!
I just told him "The room assigners usually do a great job figuring it out for me, just put it in like that." LOL

He was a really nice CM, just didn't get how I could be close to classic hall without paying preferred. Well, I can't be AS close as preferred, but I can be right next door! LOL

I think this might have been the last one. The cheer seasons usually run mid fall to spring - not 100% sure though, there may be a few more but a lot of schools don't do competitions to much later than now because of other sports. Its going to be time soon for DD's High School to have cheer tryouts for next season.

On March 13 a boat load of cheerleaders arrived. That was there only fre day (we were told) and MK was prettty packed that day. We didn't see ALOT of them, but more than I wanted to. I wish I would've known ahead of time and I would've gone to a different park then that day.

Holy cow! I was just coming here to ask the same question!!!!!!!!!!!! :goodvibes

Thanks for the answer I wanted too!!! :thumbsup2

Re: the window decorating, doyou think it will be OK if I use scotch tape to hang my decs up? I have this whole Happy 6th Birthday idea in my mind, but since I will do the graphics myself on the computer, I don't want to do clings.... I promise to peel all the tape off the windows before I leave :goodvibes

Kristin

I see it was answered, but again, no tape. I got clings at Target. Maybe they ahve birthday ones?

Anyone know if they still have the ping pong tables? I swear I never remember seeing them, lol.

How about the lego's near the luggage check in- Seems like a tripping danger, lol. I got this info from post #1 of this thread.

Never saw the letgos before, but yes the ping pong tables are stil lthere. Right across from Petals bar.

The comments about tape and window decorating have me worried. I bought "Crayola® Washable Window Markers" that are made to write on windows (glass). They wash off with a paper towel and a small amount of water VERY easily. I thought it'd be fine, especially if we left the package out so Mousekeeping could easily see what we were using. Anyone have experience with these at POP? Or could speculate if anyone would have a problem with it?

 It is very unlikely housekeepers would stop to read a box of markers you left out. They are in a hurry to get their work done and would not be looking at guest belongings. Also, most speak limited English.

I would definitely not use anything to write on the windows - if a housekeeping supervisor sees it (they make the rounds everyday), s/he may report it and a cleaning charge could be incurred.

Be safe - use clings. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the response. I know I got the idea on the DIS somewhere, just don't recall which thread (I had never even heard of these before reading on here somewhere!). That person said that mousekeeping used their's to add to their window and wrote on their mirror too. It sounded cute, plus I had a coupon for a Crayola product so I bought them yesterday. They really wash off SO easily. But i don't want to get in trouble, so I dunno...
Maybe I'll ask on the Creative board, that may be where I read it originally???

Do you recall if you read it before or after the Resorts began the cleaning charge? Seems the resorts have been easy with clings - but if people use tape, your washable crayons would be much easier to clean.

The charge was instituted because guests were leaving the decorations for housekeeping to clean up. For awhile, it seemed practically everyone decorated at the values, especially near a holiday and then it spread to all the time.

I know you cannot really call the resort directly (have a friend who works in the resort call center), but maybe the call the resort number (call center) and ask for housekeeping? This way you would know for sure. :)

Did you book a pref or std room location? If std, and you don't mind a short walk, the 50's bldg 3, lake side is very pretty and quiet - esp the 1st or 4th floor. 60's lakeside is also very nice!

Have a great time!! :)

No advice? :confused3

Well if you have a certain building you would prefer then I'd suggest you call and add a request for it. As for quiet, I stayed in 2 different locations in October and both were quiet. I stayed in the back of the 60's facing the lake and it was BEAUTIFUL and very quiet. I also stayed facing the pool and never heard a peep.

Thanks everyone - lot's of advice, but I'll look and the maps and see what DH thinks before I send in our request.:thumbsup2

It'll be just standard, not preferred, as we are splitting our stay and splurging for AKL/Savananna view :)

I think I'll have a great time no matter where we are!:yay:

I actually read on this thread that it is a BIG no-no now. Some one did it not too long ago and were charged a few. If you were to do it (and I owuldn;t) you would have to clean it yourself before you left. I heard that they have gotten very strict now. I actually was a little worried about the clings and was prepared to clean off any residue myself.
But like I said, I JUST read this a few weeks ago how this is now a really big no-no there.

I'm sure this has been asked a zillion times.
What is the best building to be in at POP?
We would like to be near one of the main pools and the bus stops.

Thanks
Fran
