Individual room climate control is by default motion sensor activated

-there is no known way to override the thermostat's motion sensor yourself; they are different than other units in other WDW resorts

-you can call maintenance to turn off the motion sensor, however, whatever they do to it only lasts 24 hours

I have never stayed at POP so I don't know if that is true or not.

I saw some posts about helium balloons being needed in the rooms to keep the thermo at a certain temp. We had no need for a balloon. Our thermostat stayed where we put it.

My only complaint about POP is the thin walls and noisy neighbors.

I don't know if that holds true for all rooms, but I am a very warm person and I NEED the room to be as cool as possible to sleep comfortably, so... I WILL be buying a balloon just to play it safe!

My sister and I and our families are going to be at Pop at the end of May for 7 days. We won both rooms through the Lastminute travel promotion. Does anyone have any idea what the chances are that we would be able to get connecting rooms. We've gotten Disney confirmation numbers from LastMinuteTravel, but were told that Disney will not have our name until closer to our arrival.

Any ideas on what to do to request connecting rooms? Are a lot of the rooms at POP connecting? The reservations are for "preferred room" but I don't really care which building we're in, I'd take a standard room if we could get connecting. I read through a lot of this thread (which is full of great info by the way) but I didn't see much on connecting rooms, so forgive me if it's right in front of me somewhere and I am missing it.

Thanks!

Last Minute Travel should be able to note it on your ressie because your ressie stays with them until apprx 7-5 days prior to your arrival so they own your ressie until that time and can note what you need on there! Also you can fax your request for connecting rooms 5 days prior to your arrival! You could make your 2nd request and state adjoining if no connecting are available then rooms would at least be side by side they just wouldn't connect. I've done both and never had a problem our ressie before was thru travelocity and they noted connecting rooms for me and I called Disney 5days prior and they stated it was noted and I also faxed my request to the room assigner 5 days prior you will need both ressie numbers so they can link them together.

It looks like we may be moving our May/June vacation to August. We are moving our law office and it looks like we'll be moving around the same time that I am supposed to be on vacation. For those of you who have visited in August, how are the Pop crowds?

Yes that is true. They are motion sensored, so the ywill stay at the temp you set it, but won't trun on to keep it that temp unless it has motion every so often.

The Xmas decorations were up until Jan 8th this year. We checked in Jan 3 and all parks had Xmas music and decorations in place until Thurs Jan 8 and on Friday they were gone.

End of August (20s) was good in '05. Not too crowded. I think Sept. was a bit less crowded and Feb. was really good.

Re: AC and balloon. We never had a problem. AC stayed good and cold. No ballon needed. Not sure why some have had a problem, or whether that was long ago, or whatever. We were there in '05 and '07.

Happy Planning everyone!

Crowds seem to be ok since alot of schools start in august! But remember Free Dining is August usually the last week thru september ! And I just recvd an email w a pin code for Free Dining august 16th thru Sept! So it sounds like it's starting earlier! I'm going on 8/24 thru Sept 3rd,2009! Last year we went 8/23 thru 8/31/2008! Even know it was free dining it wasn't as busy as spring break I didn't think so anyway!

I also had no problems with a change in room temperature when I was there in September 2008, and I did not having any added motion in the room. So we can only assume that some rooms have had the thermostat model changed out where others have not. The picture linked to the words "climate control" in Post #1 is from my room in September 2008.

This thread is very informational. Anyone know how the crowds are in May, we will be there the 15th thru 22nd...hopefully before most schools are out for the summer.

I've stayed in 5 different rooms at Pop and never had issues with the thermostat. We set it where we were comfortable and it stayed there the whole trip. I thought the problems were back when Pop was a new resort and all had been changed by now.

We just returned from a week at Pop. Some things I made note of that I'm sure have already been mentioned somewhere in the last 61 pages:

-no problem at all with the thermostat. I'm sensitive to temperature changes and never had a problem.

-The walls are indeed very thin - I could hear the shower running in the room next to me and someone trying to um, go to the bathroom (EW EW EW!). We drove down and were able to take a box fan with us and we put it on high every night and had no problem at all with hearing the neighbors while the fan was on.

-Did not get maid service 2 days in a row in the middle of our visit (they came, they were just running late and it was the baby's naptime so we had the privacy sign on the door). Was not a big deal though, we just called housekeeping and they brought towels within 10 minutes.

-We brought a pack & play and it fit perfectly right in front of the window behind the door to the room. While we did have a curtain blocking off the bathroom & sink area, there was still a lot of light that got through, so we called housekeeping and asked for 2 more fleece blankets. We draped those over the pack & play to block the light out and took them off when we turned the lights out. The baby slept great that way the whole week.

-I can't remember if someone mentioned it in this thread or elsewhere on the DIS, but the dryer trick really worked when doing laundry. Open the dryer door 1/2way through drying and shake out each piece of clothing. Our clothes were all completely dry (waistbands of jeans slightly damp) and others' in the laundry room had clothes that were still soaking wet after 1 cycle in the dryer.

-We had an awesome view of fireworks every night from our room. We had no problem at check-in asking for a room that was away from the parking lots and pool and on the 3rd or 4th floor of a building. We ended up in the 60s in room 4457, which is a lake view facing Epcot. If it would have been warmer, we'd have been out there every night watching fireworks (the baby has early bedtime, so we never got to go to any fireworks shows).

Overall, I loved staying at Pop and would stay there again, but I think we're going to do CBR or SOG when we go back in December. We loved the frozen cokes! We must have drank 4-5 a day, which is a lot since we usually are water drinkers.

Thanks for the 411 on your trip. I am really excited now but must wait until May.

Someone asked how the crowds were in May - last time we went in May, 2006, they weren't bad. The Flower and Garden show at Epcot was spectacular!

We're in 3261 right now.....been here since Friday. Housekeeping has not missed any cleanings so far. Walls are thin. It's noisiest around 7:30 am to 9:30 am. Then seems to quiet down. We did EMH last night in the MK and didn't get to bed until 2 am, so we slept in but it was hard with all the screaming and door slamming. Def paper thin walls.

The one issue we have---and it may make us not book here again---is the beds. Very uncomfortable to us. I honestly don't want to come off as a disney resort snob, but when we stay at DVC resorts, the beds are so much more comfortable. Dh and I are waking up here with bad neck and back pain and using lots of Advil. We finally decided we recalled this happening the last time we stayed at POP. So POP is probably good for 2-3 night stays, but anything over that, I'd want to book somewhere else. We really do like the resort overall. It's clean, colorful, lively. Bus service has been good so far. CM's have been very nice.

It's just the beds. Too hard for us. And we stayed at SSR a few days ago and the beds there were much more comfortable. I'm sure some like extra firm beds....and would do fine here. But dh has herniated disc and he's suffering with the sleeping issues.

I have a better solution to your problem -- next time take me with, my second job as a massage therapist will certainly benefit you and your DH. Good trade?:rotfl:

Oh yes....that would be awesome !!!! :thumbsup2 In fact, POP should offer this perk to it's guests.........

We are staying at Pop for our anniversary in April. Two questions. Do they have a room service menu with special items? We stayed at the Contemp and I surprised my husband with a chocolate monorail and when we stayed at the WL I suprised him with a plate of cookies. Just wondering if they had anything like that.

Also, do they have any king rooms that are not handicapped accesible?

Are you, by chance, typing this post via an internet connectin in your room? Wondering if POP has internet? Wired/wireless.

Thanks!

POP along with the other values does not have room service. The only item you can get for room delivery is pizza.

POP has non-accessible King beds. I believe post #1 in this thread says how many. Yupp, it does:
Total of 2880 air-conditioned rooms
rooms are 260 sq feet each
room allocations
King Bed, Standard: 81
King Bed, Handicap Accessible*: 63

Sue Z

Thanks so much. I read the first page and looked right over it and it says there are 81 that are not handicap.

It sounds like since they changed the matresses, everyone is complaining about the beds. UGH! :scared: I have thought the past two years the beds were great, and I have a horrid back. So thats a bummer!

Pop does not have room service, except for pizza, which I hear isn't all that great.
Anyone know how much it cost? i don;t know if I ever read that. I do know it's two credits on the dining plan.

Pop does have "wired" internet service for $9.95 for a 24 hour period.

If anyone is interested, I started a pre tip report. The link is in my signature. I have a ton of pictures in it (some of Pop)

Less than 4 weeks till we go! :cheer2: Can't wait! :dance3:
