Is there any way to know what's in the grey areas of the deck plans? I was wondering for when choosing staterooms....would it be better to have cabins across the hall from you, or go for 'grey' Any bad grey to be near? :)

i am guessing that the grey areas are over crew only admittance. This is a good question...

Some of those areas are laundries. I would stay away from those. Hot, steamy, busy, and smells like laundry detergent.

The grey areas are for crews only - some are less desirable to be nearby (due to mechanical noises, vibrations, etc.), while others you wouldn't even notice. Usually you can guess what the grey areas are for. For example, the large grey areas on deck 3 & 4, between mid and aft, are most likely the galley. The small grey area immediately behind the fore & aft elevator banks on each deck are probably for storages & cleaning supplies and service elevators, and also to buffer the elevator noises from the adjacent cabins. The large grey areas on deck 1 and below should contain the engine, supplies, food storage, crew cabins, loading/unloading equipments, etc. It would be interesting and informative (for cabin selection purposes) if anyone has a official map on the functions of the grey areas.

Stateroom 5650 is next door to a "grey" crew area, but we have been in that stateroom several times and have never heard any noise...I'm not even sure what it's used for. The secret porthole rooms are across from a "grey area" used for luggage. Some people have reported noise problems, but we have been in the SPRs a few times and have never noticed a disturbance there either.
