The Great Leap into Running and DVC Ownership.

I had no idea you had this going; saving spot and will be back to read.

****Okay...back and caught up. Love the intros. But I love even more that your home resort is OKW...our favorite resort now.

:cool1::cool1::cool1: that you had a DIS meet with Cynthia. She just mentioned on my PTR that she is going to be in Chicago for business; I'm hoping we can work it out to meet.

Good news overall on Zoe...so happy to hear it.

:yay: A dismet and I know how much you need those face to face times.

It was really neat. I know that the boards make the world so much smaller... but to meet face to face with someone you have already come to know on the boards is special.
I had almost forgotten about Zoe's medical issues, it has been do long:woohoo: since she has had problems. Hmmm....do you really want to have the surgery right before we go? I am thinking that really is not a great idea...don't want you to worry the entire time that Steve is attending to business at home with her!

Well, it isn't like we get a choice. I mean... I can say, no we don't want to. So in that sense we have a choice. But as for the schedule.. that was the next available. The one after that was when we are gone (so obviously that won't work) Thing is, she has had so many day surgeries... I cant count now. This will be a tad more than "routine" They are going to fix her bladder neck a bit more too... but all in all.... nothing we haven't seen/done. There shouldn't be any reason to think anything would keep me from going on 9/28. Even if once I remove her tubes, things are challenging... and it causes Steve too much stress. We will just revert back to our "temporary" situation and that can be maintained until I get back. So don't worry... I will not bail on the trip. :goodvibes

Such a nice angle...you can almost see up my nose! Nice golf tournament logo wear, bleh! LOL! She was cracking up too while taking them, it was funny.

I didn't eve notice the logo. You looked very nice..and at least you didn't have a wardrobe malfunction happening!

It couldn't have worked out better, I had an almost all day event 5 minutes away but I didn't need to "be" there the whole time so it worked out perfectly. I was at my event from 6:30 until about 10, hit REI for an item for my DVC Central Christmas in July gift exchange (speaking of...random question...do you know anywhere they have the little "single serve" biofreeze packets? I'd love to put one in there) hit a different Starbucks to get a proposal done and out and then met up with you.

I am glad it worked out for you... cause I really really enjoyed it!!! But... 6:30 in the morning? Yikes!!! that is early! And... I hope you didn't have to wait around too much. If you were done at 10... I could have met you earlier.

Looks like Ashley found you a place to get the singles of the biofreeze....

I still can't believe how much nicer that Disney Store is than the one by me!

I do think it is a nice store... but it is new. I just wish it was a tad bigger. The adult section is usually pretty slim... in fact :scratchin I am not sure I saw any tees out when we were there.

I could have chatted for hours and Zoe is so adorable, so much fun! I loved all of her trivia, reminded me so much of my Eric in that way! I am going to tell them about the cool Disney Minecraft stuff she was mentioning and may ask you for more details.

Zoe loves to talk.. that is for sure and I think her way of trying to fit into adult conversation is with trivia.

This is the guy who does them. Lots of cool trivia... the minecraft stuff is interesting enough too I suppose.

After we met it was back to the tournament lunch, and then to yet another Starbucks after the tournament lunch to finish it up and submit it, but I still made it home by about 5:15 and that included detours to UVillage to check out new sports bras at Athleta and socks at Lucy lol!

So three starbucks? :rotfl2: I hit one before seeing you and I may have stopped at another one on the way home. I am honestly trying to cut back on how often I go there!!! I swear... Starbucks and Disney get all my moneys!!!

We managed to be on the road at 4, so I imagine we were passing each other. I was not aware that Uvillage had that HUGE parking garage going in. It really has been a while since we went up to Children's. I guess I have taken it for granted.. we were up there so frequently there for a while.
I am so glad things looked so clean and you can just try a deeper revision that is less invasive!!!! Overall seems like VERY good news! Is this something that changes as she grows?

It is good news. However, Zoe is likely to have more surgeries throughout her life. What she was born with is actually on the American Disabilities list....so "technically" she is disabled. It will be a life long process for her. However she always does quite well... I mean.. when she was born they told us she may not even walk and if she did it would be labored and with a gate. She not only walks... but runs.. dances... etc. We all tend to even forget she has some of the issues she does because it is our "normal"

A color run, those look fun! Are you all doing it? It's a lovely day, enjoy!

It was fun. Just Steve and I. He was very reluctant. However, I had got up just before 4am to make ADRs and my cold is HORRIBLE now. So I knew if I didn't do the event (which would be far easier for me) I wouldn't do the 8.5 I normally do on Sat. Got Steve to go and he did way better than I would have thought for a guy getting over pneumonia. However... the powder they use really wan't fun for either of us.....and so we both feel worse than before.

You may worry a bit but It does seem like she takes her care seriously and will be in very good hands with Steve. But you are taking out the tubes? Wow!:scared: I bet you are used to it though.

We are use to it... and the tubes are nothing difficult. Steve and Zoe both can handle things while I am away. I am sure of it. :goodvibes
eandesmom...

Looking at biofreeze.... never a bad thing to have around in single packets.

http://www.massagewarehouse.com/products/biofreeze-pain-relieving-products/

Oh... that is handy site!!!

I had no idea you had this going; saving spot and will be back to read.

So glad you are here! I just started... so you didn't miss anything. :goodvibes

****Okay...back and caught up. Love the intros. But I love even more that your home resort is OKW...our favorite resort now.

I am super excited about this. I have never even been there but so excited to stay there.

:cool1::cool1::cool1: that you had a DIS meet with Cynthia. She just mentioned on my PTR that she is going to be in Chicago for business; I'm hoping we can work it out to meet.

I hope you can too! She is definitely as nice a person IRL as she is here on dis!!!

Good news overall on Zoe...so happy to hear it.

Thank you. :goodvibes

Joining in! Couldn't resist as you are two things on my bucket list....DVC and a Disney run. Given my year so far...it'll be 2015 for the run. Looking forward to hearing about your planning and training.

Really not worried about you bailing...more worried about you stressing should she need more attention and you are with me! But then again, it is good for dad to take care of business!

 Glad you are gonna follow along. I am very blessed to have a dh who despite complaining about disney... tends to support my obsession... and that the running thing has turned into something I really enjoy. There is so little in my life that has made me feel as empowered. Big moments in my life... birth of my kids, wedding day and finishing my first half marathon. All were defining moments. And... for me to complete that at the age of 43... I feel it shows that the saying you can't teach an old dog new tricks is WAY off... cause this old dog is learning just what she is capable of doing!!!

I would only worry if something odd was going on... and the chance of that is SOOO slim. Had we gone with the more invasive surgery...then things would be less predictable. Remember... She had the similar more invasive surgery in 7/11... and by the time 12/11 came around she had a complication and we almost had to cancel that trip. So you just never know... so I have learned to try to not worry to much ahead of time.

Are you my long lost sister????? I feel a lot the same as you! Starting running feels like a ME thing.....all ME! Not much of that exists. Not that I'm complaining but am wondering, now that I turned 40, is this all there is? My time out in the morning is so refreshing to me. I'm lucky in that my DH loves Disney as well. No kids here but ready for that 1/2.

I wasn't waiting around at all! I went to Starbucks by REI to work on a proposal. I couldn't have done it at the event (would have looked crazy rude lol)

This is the guy who does them. Lots of cool trivia... the minecraft stuff is interesting enough too I suppose.

Cool! I will definitely pass this on to the E's.

So three starbucks? :rotfl2: I hit one before seeing you and I may have stopped at another one on the way home. I am honestly trying to cut back on how often I go there!!! I swear... Starbucks and Disney get all my moneys!!!

Well yes, but I only had a drink at the one with you. Mooching free wifi the other 2 times and didn't have an iota of guilt over it either.

We managed to be on the road at 4, so I imagine we were passing each other. I was not aware that Uvillage had that HUGE parking garage going in. It really has been a while since we went up to Children's. I guess I have taken it for granted.. we were up there so frequently there for a while.

Yes, garage number 2, it's a mess of construction right now that's for sure. It's funny, I will often time swinging by there after a tukwila event, otherwise it's a bit out of my traffic pattern but there are 4 stores there I love that aren't anywhere else around me (I avoid Bellevue like the plague). It's a dangerous mall.

It was fun. Just Steve and I. He was very reluctant. However, I had got up just before 4am to make ADRs and my cold is HORRIBLE now. 4 am? I thought it was 5am to call in or go online

Ugh, the powder with my eyes and skin issues could be bad...I may never try one.

Running really is amazing...empowering. I guess any physical activity could be. While I have never been horribly out of shape.. I was out of shape and not active. I just assumed that I was not a runner... in fact, it took quite a while for me to call myself one. I too love morning runs. Went for a hike this evening though and it was quite nice. So my thoughts went away from how nice it was to being out with dh and dd to I could run at night too, this is pretty. How selfish is that?

So a half... in 2015. What is your plan? PHM? I am hoping to do that again in 2015.

4 am? I thought it was 5am to call in or go online

Yup... it opens 7am est. I tried from 4am to 4:30 to get the online system to work.. then just called.

Ugh, the powder with my eyes and skin issues could be bad...I may never try one.

Yeah, it was fun... but if I were young and didn't have the lung issue going on.... it would have been more fun. There were some who were dragging their bodies on the ground to get more powder on them. The few times I bent down to scoop up some to put on top of Steve it was horrid on my lungs. Then Steve... well, he is allergic to hfcs.... so some corn products give him trouble. Well corn starch isn't a great idea. However, it was fun. The pre race entertainment was a lot of fun. The post race... well... again..young and without issues maybe it too would have been fun for us. We left almost immediately. With everyone being awarded packets to play with the area was just a mucky cloud of color. I think the electric run next month may be more our speed... no obstacles.. just music and lights.

Joining in. Congrats on the DVC. Fingers crossed for your daughters surgery and that everything goes well.

Sorry I missed the start of this, but congratulations on your OKW purchase. I really love that resort. The points are so reasonable. We have to had an extra couple days to our October trip and Denny wanted to know why we can't stay there. Because its booked. doh!

Anyway - back to read!

Caught up.

Nice long stay! :thumbsup2

Too funny that Kira and her DH were born on the same day in the same year. That's awesome.

Denny and I have been married 24 years too, but we were definitely not high school sweethearts having met much later than that.

Loved all the other introductions.

Sorry to hear that Zoe's stoma revision will be right before your girl's trip. But it sounds like she is a pro at the this. Glad he US results looked good. Will she need urinary diversion and a stoma lifetime? I always enjoy seeing her smiling face in pictures.

:welcome: and thank you for both the congrats and well wishes. DVC is something we probably should have "invested" in years ago. And as for Zoe's surgery... I have faith it will go well. She is under the care of a world class surgeon. He is one of the leading pediatric urologists in the country.

Mary Ellen, So glad you found this! I am so bad. I should send out notices... but I don't. :rolleyes1

I really feel lucky that we ended up with OKW. It wasn't totally on my radar. It just kinda ended up being what we put an off in on cause the rep called me when I was still asleep... and before I knew what happened and was completely awake our phone conversation was over and the offer was put in. :rotfl:

Caught up.

Her urologist would love for advances to be made that would allow for her to have a new bladder grown. If and when that happened, then she would no longer need the mitrofinoff. However, that is probably not going to happen any time soon. At least with her augmentation, she finally has capacity. Now if only she could train the tissue to respond she could use the mitrofinoff less. (since the tissue used to augment does not contract in the way that normal bladder muscle would to void..so it takes training and conscious effort to do what requires no thought for the rest of us.)

Joining in! Best wishes to Zoe and congratulations on becoming a DVC owner.

:welcome: So glad to make more new friends! :goodvibes

And thank you for the wishes and congratulations! :goodvibes

I seem to have neglected this for a couple weeks. :rolleyes1 Sorry. Between the start of a new ad cycle and getting sick, I wasn't quite up to trip planning. I have stayed on top of the threads I am subscribed to though, so that counts for something, yes? ::yes::

So since I last updated, as I mentioned, I have been sick. I am pretty stubborn and attempted to not miss any run days though. 7/13 Steve and I were scheduled to run a color in motion 5k. Now, he had been diagnosed with pneumonia (I think the previous saturday). I woke feeling solidly not well. We had already paid for our bibs and I knew my normally scheduled run of 8.5 miles would take too much from me. In my mind... going the 3.1 was fine since it was "planned". (I allow myself to skip my "normal" run if I have a planned event that I am doing instead). So while I wasn't feeling great, I knew that it would be easier on me to do the 5k than to do 8.5 miles. Surprisingly, Steve was not feeling to bad. He had finished a course of zithromax. So while he balked at first, once he was up he agreed to go.

It was an early morning though since, like most everything, it takes approximately an hour to get from our "out in the middle of no where" town to any of the larger cities near by. So we had to leave early to get there in time. Also, this was ADR day... but I will get to that in my ADR update.

We arrived and decided to get into the POP line. Good grief. I should have taken a picture of it. The line snaked through the crowd and it was hard to tell where the crowd was and where the line was. It was NOT a well organized line. It was funny too because as the line would curve and you would run up along another side of the line you would hear people realize they were in the line for the POPs and hop out of line saying that they thought they were in line for something else. It was hilarious. It was also frustrating because I know that the line would lose people occasionally too when it would bend. I know this is hard to imagine, but really... the crowd was shoulder to shoulder and you really had know who was in front of and behind you in order to stay in the line.

There were also some freebies at various sponsor booths. We were able to snag some fancy vitamin water bottles. They came in a gazillion flavors and were fun cause you twisted a special cap to release the vitamins into the water and then shook. Fun.

Once we actually finished with our POP adventure it was time to hustle to the corrals. (not timed, just one fills and you are in the next) I think we made it to the 3rd corral. There was a event person up high over the crowd playing music and spraying color and throwing out swag. The crowd energy was infectiously high.

Once our corral was up to the front we all were loud and dancing. The dancing caused the event rep to throw out more swag. A pair of sunglasses was thrown over my head and Steve opened his had to catch it...but sadly didn't close his hand fast enough and it flew forward. Another pair landed at my feet. I put my foot on it to "claim it" but someone was diving for it before I could even reach down. :rotfl2: I guess Steve and I are just too old for jumping and diving for swag.

The race itself was nice. It was not timed. I didn't bring my phone so I have NO idea how long it took us. We ran most of the segments between color stations. This was big for Steve because he is still very much at doing intervals in his training. (or was since 7/13 was the last time he ran) He even ran up some pretty impressive hills... I couldn't keep up with him on them. :faint: I tried to make sure he got a good amount of color on him by doing some scooping of the color at each station. This wasn't too great for me cause bending down and picking that stuff up put me breathing in that denser cloud of color. :rolleyes2

The finish was probably the LEAST climatic finish at any race I have ever seen. No cameras no cheers. People just kinda crossed and a crowd formed.

There crowd that formed was part of the after party. They were spraying each other (think even more dense cloud of color in the air) There was swimming pools full of ice and bottled water, but as people had grabbed bottles and their colors had washed off the water had become a murky swampy color. So even though I grabbed my water bottle, I wasn't able to bring myself to drink it. We chose to leave right after grabbing the bottle of water. The cloud was just too much for either of us.

We looked happy though, yes?

And of course we had to get front and back shots.

The week of 7/15 I continued to feel more poorly. Steve also felt worse again. :( I had a lot of work to get done (but luckily not too much since my hours got cut by 10 a week) I ran my normal distance on 7/15 and on 7/16 but by the time 7/18 came, I just couldn't. I skipped a run day!

That was the day of the next scheduled event though, so it wasn't a total skip. For those of you with a roadrunner sports near you, DO THE ADVENTURE RUN! It is free and a fun way to incorporate running into a playful activity. Last month I was a big winner, taking home all the unclaimed prizes. :cool1: Josh was also a big winner and although dollar for dollar not as big as mine... MUCH more practical cause... well, I know the crossfit classes are going to go to waste... probably even the hour massage. And the case of muscle milk makes me gag...so will likely go to the food bank. :rotfl:

This month, the theme was luau. I was going to go all out and dress up for it, but I wasn't feeling well enough. I had talked my entire family into going. (except Steve, he still is mad at me for leaving him the previous month :rolleyes2) So it was Kimberly, Zach, Kimberly's mom - Pearl, Kimberly's friend - Kenzie, Kira, Josh, Zoe and myself. Kimberly's dad even showed up for the after party!

We took it easy and didn't hit all the check points. (you run to check points around town in what ever order you want and collect raffle tickets) Kira and Josh went off on their own while the rest of us stayed together. It was so much fun. Zach participated in a dance off. He is such a goof. He didn't win... but we all got a good laugh.

If you want to see more pictures of the entire event. (we are in a few) go here

In the end, Zach won a gc for his costume. (did ya see the shells?) Josh managed to catch 3 socks that were thrown out into the crowd (what is with swag being thrown into crowds?) During the raffle drawings, Pearl and I went into the beer garden. OMG! I have never drank after running. Not sure I will again. Participants are able to purchase tickets for beer (pre race) at $1 a ticket. First, I am not a beer drinker. Second, the beers were HUGE. Pearl and I only each bought one. She did not finish hers, but I wasn't going to let mine go to waste. :rotfl: It wasn't even good beer. (well, I don't think it was...but again, not a beer drinker)

After the event was over, Josh decided he was going to use one of his prizes from the previous month. A burrito party at Chipotle. We all got to choose what ever we wanted off the menu, got a huge bag of chips and a container of amazing guacamole.

I then did not go out again on 7/20 (my next scheduled day) however 8.5 was NOT going to happen. I managed just a bit over 4 miles.

On the med this past week though and I went out on 7/22 and not only ran my scheduled distance, but PR'd it! 2.04 miles in 16:45 :cool1: I managed my normal distance on 7/23 and yesterday, 7/25. Yesterday was HARD though. It was the farthest I have ran in almost 3 weeks. (6.5 miles) I had the worst side ache for the last couple miles and the heat didn't help. My time was about normal though for that distance. (I just normally don't feel like I am going to die quite so much)

7/25 was Steve's birthday. I got all the kids (except Kimberly) to come over for a big meal. It was a lot of fun to have everyone together.

Somewhere in the last couple of weeks, I also got my hair cut. I had a pretty short do anyway, but this is a little bit better.

Also, in the last couple weeks poor Zoe has had her latex allergy get worse. We are good about keeping the latex away from her and being cautious that way, but there is a syndrome called latex fruit syndrome. I need to have her officially tested because in one week she had a fairly severe reactions to two or three of the items on the list. (I say two or three because in one sitting she was exposed to two items) The first was when we had a pasta dish with zucchini and watermelon on the side. All of a sudden she started wincing and saying her face was burning. It was shocking. I looked at her and every where the watermelon had touched was red, inflamed and had HUGE hives. (watermelon and zucchini are both on the list.) Then at the burrito party the same thing happened as she was eating the guacamole:sad2: She LOVES avocado. So a trip to be tested is in her future. I know it will come back positive, but it will be helpful to know just what foods she will need to stay away from. (the list is large)

So that is my last couple weeks. :goodvibes Thanks for letting me share.

I promise I will do an "official" update with PTRs soon. (maybe even today)

Oh wow... I didn't know there was another form of latex allergen. Buddy is allergic and has a lot of digestive issues. I think I'm about to pull up the list and see if anything he regularly eats is included.

Fun update! Love that you did the burrito party after the adventure run, you guys are really good about getting out and doing stuff, I'm impressed at the number of events you manage to fit in.

Hair looks cute!

Poor Zoe, that is awful. Awful awful awful. Can you do allergy testing nearby or will you have to come up to Children's for it? Eric had it done there once.

Okay, first off, I am sorry for the lack of comments, but I was pretty busy those last three weeks. (Being busy while on holiday sounds so stupid, doesn't it? :lmao:)
I did read along though, I promise.

What did I want to comment on?
I hope you are feeling a lot better by now. And I admire your stamina for heading out on runs even if you don't feel 100% well.
The colour run looks like a lot of fun. You did a good job keeping Steve coloured. :goodvibes
Your new hairstyle looks awesome! Suits you pretty well.
Sorry to hear about my little friend Zoe. Even though the outcome will be pretty much what you are thinking it is always good to have everything covered and have her tested.
So unfair that she has so many things to deal with. :sad2:

I think you would probably know by now. It isn't a food sensitivity like lactose intolerance that causes digestive issues. It is swelling and hives and such. Have you seen the movie "Hitch" In it Will Smiths character eats some seafood and then gets all gross looking. ::yes:: Zoe's allergy does that to her. She looks like she has been a boxing match and her eye has been known to swell up and out of the socket. So far nothing has impacted her ability to breath.

Fun update! Love that you did the burrito party after the adventure run, you guys are really good about getting out and doing stuff, I'm impressed at the number of events you manage to fit in.

After the beer I had, the burrito party was needed in order to be ok to drive. :rotfl2: I don't drink beer often. Did I mention that? :rotfl:

I really do like getting out to do these events. Roadrunner in Kent is definitely my favorite store. They are super nice there. They make you feel special. Like... at one check point. One of the workers (I think she is a manager) she asked Kira if I was there. She then ran up to me to hug me. Now... it isn't like I am in that store a lot. How she remembers me (also always remembering my size) is amazing! So next month the theme for the adventure run is super heros. :scratchin I may or may not dress up for that one. :rotfl:

Hair looks cute!

thanks. :goodvibes

I am being lazy and taking her to the pediatrician. I think I am going to waste my money. First we will discuss. Then they will do the standard blood panel for allergies. You know... test for various allergens like pet dander and dust mites. We can have add ons done. So I have to KNOW what of the list on latex fruit syndrome to test for. THEN it may or may not come back with usable data. See... she isn't actually allergic to watermelon or avocado. Her body is allergic to latex. Fruits especially can have a protein that is very similar. Her body then "takes a look at" that protein and thinks "hmm... close enough" and reacts. Kinda like this :sad1: and this :guilty: look a lot alike..both with blue tones and a frown. It confuses her body and it thinks it is the same...and maybe it is the "tear" part of the protein that she is actually allergic so when testing this :guilty: and it doesn't have that tear her allergen score it may show she is not allergic. I am not sure how cross protein reactions are tested for and documented. I suspect it is once all of this comes back with nothing that we will have to go up to childrens.

I totally understand being busy!

I am feeling better, thank you. Not truly 100%. I am still attempting to cough up a lung on occasion. :crazy2: I know...

I am glad that Steve and I did the color run... but probably can check that off my bucket list. It was not great breathing in all that dust. Not to mention that Steve has a food sensitivity to sweet corn so corn starch they used caused him to feel off all week.

Thank you for the compliment on my hair. I was nervous about going even shorter because it would mean no pony for my runs. However, this even works better!

And thank you, I agree. Zoe shouldn't have to go through so much. She is a trooper though. Just this morning woke to such bad spasms that she was crying and could barely move. Now... she is tra la laing down the hall. (literally, singing la la la as she is skipping down the hall:rotfl:) I admire her ability to push on and still remain so positive when she really has every right to wallow and be sad about her situation. (not to mention to just not push when she spends so much of every day in pain:sad2:)

So before I get to ADRs, let me just pose a question.

I have been watching the DVC site to see if anything were to open up for marathon weekend.

Meanwhile, Kira and Josh are reconsidering changing dates to when we are not going to be there since their plan was to use Christmas bonus (it is a set account that Josh pays into so they know exactly what his "bonus" will be) in order to pay for their trip. This will come in just after that 45 day window.

Keep in mind Kira does not want to share a room with us since we are leaning toward NOT getting the dp.

So... now I look and see that there are studios available at AK..even a Savannah room. Admittedly, maybe there is one room? I don't know. What I do know that in theory, we could change our room from OKW and get two studios for approximately the same points. (yes a tad more..but two rooms) The draws to staying in the one bedroom was having space to hang out a real place to cook and a spot for Zach and Kimberly should they show up for a few nights.

But it has been the dream of all of my kids to stay at AKL.. and the change could make it so that Kira and Josh wouldn't have to change their dates. Zach and Kimberly are definitely out since she has school and they hope to be going down in the spring. While we wouldn't have the large patio area with the table, we still would have a balcony. And are there connecting rooms? Kira and Josh could still get their dp. We would just have Alex in the room with them and get it for him as well. (he tends to go off on his own and having cs credits would be a good thing for him)

However, AK is far from MK. And we wouldn't have a nice tub. (but a better pool?) We also couldn't make a meal. (we were planning to make one "real" meal in the room)

Can anyone else come up with pros and cons? I can't discuss with Steve cause "it is too far off to think about" and Kira just gets frustrated. I am anxious to stay at OKW... I think my problem is I want to stay everywhere. :rotfl:
