I want to buy The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaimen for DD for Halloween, but the first few pages are pretty gory. I read on until the next chapter and it seemed much tamer, but I would like to know if there are more "horror" pages. She's mature enough to read it, but she has nightmares easily and I don't want to add to that. I think it will be OK if the gore is limited to just the first pages.

How old is she? DD is 9yo and she is reading it off and on and likes it. Though I have to say she also loves Goosebumps and scary stories, she is very into that a the moment.

I read it, even though it is for a younger age group, and I think it's certainly OK for a 9 or 10 yo. It's a phenomenal book, too! It was based off of the Jungle Book, if you didn't know :)

OK, I asked DD more about it and she said it wasn't that scary, about Harry Potter level and not as scary as some of the Goosebumps books. I hope that helps!

I loved The Graveyard Book. It kind of reminded me of Roald Dahl's books--there's violence but kids seem to just take it in stride.
