We stayed Dec 12-16th. I was so excited, we were staying Concierge for the first time and I finally got our last night at AP4 rates at the last minute!
Priority check in is awesome.
We were met at the cab by a concierge CM and a bellman. They gathered our luggage, gave us a tag and off we went. There was not any sort of tour or anything, but it was nice to bypass the line at the front desk. We took care of the paperwork, was told our room would be ready by 3(it was only 9:30 in the morning) and that they would call us as soon as it was ready.
They did offer us the concierge lounge for breakfast, but we wanted something more substantial than the bagels, croissants, fruit and muffins that they offer every morning. There is cereal as well. We went to Breakfast and DL and it was 2 before we knew it and we'd already done a ton. So we headed up to the concierge lounge to get a drink and snacks. They had small sandwiches (cucmber, salmon, and turkey) that were very yummy, some fresh fruit, chocolate covered strawberries, and macroon and sugar cookies. There were also some hot scones. All of the food was good, and they kept it clean and well stocked. My only complaint here was that we were lounging on the couch and chairs by the TV. A CM came over and let us know, none too nicely, that the lounge was not meant for lounging in. Apparently we had over stayed our welcome. It was 2:45 and our room still wasn't ready, but they'd call and let us know as soon as it was ready. So back to DL we went. 6pm rolled around, no call and we're tired and hungry.
We check in at the desk and yes our room is just done (so much for 3 o'clock and that promised phone call
). Finally, a room. The room looked as though they had hurried to get it clean. I found a sanitary napkin wrapper and hair behind the toilet and it definitely could have been vacummed better, but it was a room. We rested for a while and waited for our bags. We still needed a sleeping bag set up so we requested that again on our way to concierge for a snack and glass of wine. They had a hot appetizer (2 choices over 4 nights), a nice cheese selection, crusty french bread, crackers, and a veggie platter. All of it was yummy, great for light eaters or as an appetizer before going out. The wine and beer was a nice plus. In the evenings they offer cordials(Baileys, amaretto, etc), chocolate chip cookies, and a soft dessert selection(mini cheese cake or mousse type thing). Honestly the cookies were hard, and the desserts were fairly bland and boring.
The housekeeping situation is horrid at GCH. They managed turn down service only twice and would only make the room up during the day if we left out the door hanger for it. The sheets weren't changed during our stay, they never did anything with the sleeping bag set up (it was left unmade each day), no vacuuming and that wrapper by the toilet never was picked up. Very disappointing. Trays from room service wouldn't get picked up for a day, sometimes two and people were finally getting frustrated enough to leave glasses and coffee cups next to their door in the halls for pickup. Unless you were on a major hallway that a lot of guests passed through they wouldn't be picked up for days either.
I'm not sure what the problem is and frankly I didn't care. When you are a paying guest at a hotel that claims to be a four star and you can't get your room cleaned there is a problem. Not once did we get an apology for the lack of service. In fact, when I asked for the hotel itinerary sheet they put out with turn down service the next morning ,I had it tossed across the desk at me. It always felt as though you were inconveniencing the CM's if you requested something at the desk as you entered the 6th floor. We simply stopped asking. I always thought paying for concierge was a way of insuring you got a little extra pampering while on vacation. At GCH concierge provides you with priority checkin and the snacks and drinks. Nothing more.
Its sad really. We had expected to return to concierge level in years to come. At this point I'm not sure I want to return to GCH at all. We may be going back to CCI.
So the skinny.
Breakfast from 6:30 to 10:00 - bagels, fruit, muffins, croissants, cereal, juice, coffee and tea.
Tea Time from 11:00 to 2:00 - tea sandwiches, scones, chocolate covered strawberries, macaroons and sugar cookies.
Wine and cheese from 5:00 to 7:00 - wine, beer, hot appetizer, veggies, cheese, bread and crackers, and pbj sandwiches.
All day coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water, soda, and apples.
